Title: Arithmancy #1

Claire Ward - December 15, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
Ward sidled into the classroom in her trouser suite and doc martins swinging a book called "core 1 and 2" at her side covering a bottle of gin and playing cards.

She waited for her class to arrive in the normal looking classroom.

Kiley Stewert - December 15, 2006 07:24 PM (GMT)
*Kiley walked in, her bag slung over her shoulder. She sat down in a chair in the middle of the the class and smiled at the teacher, wanting to make a good first impression*

Claire Ward - December 15, 2006 07:26 PM (GMT)
Ward smiled at her showing her her small black bent in teeth. "Oooo eager" she said as she plonked her books down and opened the store cupboard door. "Just bare with me 1 second"

Melanie Hunter - December 15, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
*Melanie walked into the class, not really looking forward to it. She HATED arithmancy. It made her head hurt and just gave her more homework that was impossible to complete. She sat down in the middle, only looking happy to be there because that's just how Mel was.*

Claire Ward - December 16, 2006 10:40 AM (GMT)
she went into the cupboard and poured some hot water into a mug of coffee. She took down a book and opened it revealing a bottle of whiskey it its hollow pages, she poured it generously into her drink and supped it.

"Ooookkkkayyy" She heaved walking back into the class with her black hair bouncing behind her. "Weve got alotta' work" She sighed. "Ive marked the homework and Im dissapointed. 2 passed, 30 failed."

Melanie Hunter - December 16, 2006 05:40 PM (GMT)
*Melanie looked up at Professor Ward, about to say sarcastically 'I wonder why', but she decided it would be better to just leave it. She nodded instead.*

Claire Ward - December 16, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
"There was a few major problems. If I can have a little bid a hush we'll start" she paced to the front and slurped some more coffee.

"Number skills. ALot of you can't add up" she waited for laughter.

Melanie Hunter - December 16, 2006 07:02 PM (GMT)
*Melanie laughed, simply because she guessed that that's what Professor Ward had wanted to hear. She really found it to be a horrible pun.

Horrible. Horrible. HORRIBLE.

But she laughed, just to make her happy.*

OOC: Sounds a lot like me. lol.

Weston Boyd - December 17, 2006 02:02 AM (GMT)
Weston walked into the classroom and quietly sat down behind Kiley. He didn't have any books or anything with him, just a quill tucked behind his ear. He leaned back and put his hands in his pockets. He gave a friendly nod to the teacher

Claire Ward - December 17, 2006 10:29 AM (GMT)
"Tut tut late" she shook her head as she seemed to make herself busy, walked into the store room and topped up her coffee with liquor.

"Ok" she took some chalk and began. "Think table" she began to scribble many many numbers over the board in concentration. "Ok, Im not explaining this very well." she began speaking mathmatical jargon whilst taking things, multiplying things and adding many thetas to what ever she was trying to solve.

"Id solve it like that, but thats just me."

Melanie Hunter - December 17, 2006 03:47 PM (GMT)
*Melanie raised her hand, ready to ask the question that everyone in the class was probably wanting to ask*

Melanie:"What did you just solve, though?"

~Mel

Claire Ward - December 17, 2006 04:59 PM (GMT)
"Ok Mel, I haven't got the time to explain now but if you are struggling I can make myself available at lunchtimes."

Melanie Hunter - December 17, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
Melanie:"Well I don't have time at lunch times so will you please try to explain very quickly right now?" *she asked in the sweetest voice she could muster. Teachers not teaching was one of her biggest pet peeves.*

~Mel

Claire Ward - December 17, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
"A liddle bid a hush" she said passively, shuffling between papers and writing more jargon on the board, sipping coffee almost manically between each line.

"Ooo I like me coffee I do."

Melanie Hunter - December 17, 2006 09:01 PM (GMT)
*Melanie sat there with her mouth open in shock and looked over at Kiley, not able to say anything. So this woman refused to do her job and was getting caffinated and drunk at the same time? How the hell did she get hired?*

~Mel

Kiley Stewert - December 18, 2006 12:20 AM (GMT)
*Kiley glanced over her shoulder at weston and smiled. She turned back to her notebook and scribbled on a sheet of paper* Do you understand any of this? nice quill, by the way.... *She smiled and ripped out the paper, glancing up at the board as she folded the paper, and dropped it to the floor, under her foot. She slid her foot back and kicked weston's foot so he could get the note. She glanced over at Mel and smiled to humor her then leaned on her hand, looking the board.*

Weston Boyd - December 18, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
Weston grinned and slid the note closer to him. He leaned over and picked it up. He read it and replied, No, I'm only here cuz of you. He folded it back up and dropped it on the floor. He slid it to Kiley's foot and tapped it to get her attention.

Kiley Stewert - December 18, 2006 12:55 AM (GMT)
*Kiley pretended to drop a quill to pick up the note. She read it and smiled alittle, replying with* You don't have to do something this borring and confusing for me..... *She dropped it and tapped his foot again*

Weston Boyd - December 18, 2006 01:00 AM (GMT)
Weston picked it up, and replied, I know I don't have to...I want to. He dropped it and kicked it back to her, tapping her once again.

Melanie Hunter - December 18, 2006 01:16 AM (GMT)
*Melanie was watching the two avidly. It was a hell of a lot more interesting than anything Ward was saying, that was for sure. Even if she didn't get to read the note, it was amusing. She dipped her quill into her ink bottle and drew a quick stick-figure cartoon of herself with a gun at her head and wrote 'Kill me NOW' at the bottom. She admired her work for a second before folding it up and hiding it in her palm. She stretched her arm out so that it looked like she was just being a jerk and putting her hand on Kiley's desk, but she let go of the note and changed positions.*

OOC: Very confusing. I'll be surprised if that made any sense at all. lol.

~Mel

Kiley Stewert - December 18, 2006 01:27 AM (GMT)
*Kiley took the note back and grinned, replying You're so stupid.... *Before passing it back under her foot to weston. She took the note from mel and grinned, drawing a stick figure of herself with a wand pointed at Mel and a speack bubble that said 'AVADA KADAVRA.' She smiled and passed it back*

Weston Boyd - December 18, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
Weston grinned at what she wrote, He past it back to her. It read I love you too

Melanie Hunter - December 18, 2006 01:32 AM (GMT)
*Melanie took the note and looked at it. She looked at Kiley with a raised eyebrow and wrote:

'Ooh. Violence. Tut-tut, Kiley. I'm ashamed of you.'

Before passing the note back*

OOC: This is going to get confusing. That's the great part. lol.

~Mel

Kiley Stewert - December 18, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
*KKiley drew a smily face on the paper with love you too... and passed it back to weston. She took Mels and drew a frownie face and passed it back to Mel. She looked at Mel and pouted.*

Claire Ward - December 18, 2006 07:28 AM (GMT)
"Stop passing notes or Ill have to get mean"

She wrote an objective on the board "Get mean. But also think table!" She waited for the laughter.

Alice Smith - December 18, 2006 07:39 AM (GMT)
Alice was sleeping at the back of the class, with her mouth slightly open.

Melanie Hunter - December 18, 2006 08:36 PM (GMT)
*Melanie laughed, but in her mind she was bashing her head off of a brick wall that was submerged by several thousand feet of water.*

~Mel

Claire Ward - December 19, 2006 07:48 AM (GMT)
After another lecture she turned to mel. "Perhaps you would like to come and solve this one" she held out the chalk.

The sum on the board was:

QUOTE
x +30 = 3x -5

Weston Boyd - December 19, 2006 06:23 PM (GMT)
Weston stopped passing notes whent he teacher said something. He looked up at the board to see the problem Mel had to do. He thought to himself, x+30 = 3x-5
Add the 5 equals x+35= 3x...and minus the x would equal 35 = 2x...divide both sides by two...and...
he leaned back in his chair and watched Mel.

Claire Ward - December 19, 2006 06:50 PM (GMT)
OOC: You got it western.

BIC:

Ward waited intently.

Melanie Hunter - December 19, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
OOC: Hah! I did it right!

Yes I did sit there in school today and take the time to figure that out. lol.

IC:

*Melanie went up to the board and took the chalk from Professor Ward. How stupid did this teacher think she was? She wrote down the work for the problem on the chalk board and wrote down the answer, 17.5, then circled it. She put the chalk down and turned back to Professor Ward, looking at her with a look that said 'still think I can't do it?'*

~Mel

Weston Boyd - December 20, 2006 01:52 AM (GMT)
OOC: I love those kind of problems.... I have a test tomorrow on them...I'm gunna ace it...I hope lol

BIC: Weston wanted Mel to get it right. As she circled the answer he grinned and thought to himself, nice job...

Claire Ward - December 20, 2006 07:38 AM (GMT)
OOC: I'm doing advanced level maths so linear equations are simple. Then you have to go into quadratics:

QUOTE
x^4 + x^2 +40 = 0

Or something like that in which there is many steps in solving it.

BIC:

Ward smiled. "You can have a smilie face" she got a sticker from the draw and put it on her head. She was being nice, not sarcastic.

"This is what maths does to you." she chuckled. again waiting for laughs.

"Ok, so algebra and magic. Well sometimes when doing advanced transfiguration you need this to calculate proportions of animals. Many philosophers have a backbone of Arithmancy behind them so they can use it for animals." She said, "Well thats the excuse from the powers that be"

Melanie Hunter - December 20, 2006 12:35 PM (GMT)
OOC: And here I am just learning linear equations like...last month. *is scared of Advanced Math* lol.

THE POWERS THAT BE MUST BE UNDERMINED WHERE THEY DWELL

hehe. :)

IC:

*Mel attempted to look at the sticker before giving up and walking back to her seat before taking the sticker off and putting it on Weston's forehead while she was on her way. She sat down once she got to her seat and attempted to pay attention*

~Mel

Claire Ward - December 20, 2006 12:49 PM (GMT)
"Ok, so remember we are Team Ward" she smiled, "Everyone will repeat. I am in Team Ward!"

Weston Boyd - December 20, 2006 01:39 PM (GMT)
OOC: x^4 + x^2 +40=0
x^6+40=0
x^6= -40
x=6.6666667
...Love 'em...lol I have a test today so it's like practice work lol

BIC: Weston grinned as the sticker was put on his head. "I am in team ward" he repeated in a monotone voice.

Claire Ward - December 20, 2006 03:46 PM (GMT)
OOC: No weston, thats wrong. The equation is a hidden quadratic, you need to substitute y in as x^2, take out common factors so you get two values of y then you put it into the substitution equation and voila, you end up with an answer of x.

You don't need to worry about these kinds until higher level though, Im doing it a year early so yeah....

Just remember you cant add powers of x together.

BIC:

"Ok, almost done" but to confuse them she wrote a formula on the board:

QUOTE
[-b +/- ROOT(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a

"Homework, 10 points to who can tell me what that formula is called"

Weston Boyd - December 20, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
OOC: I totally messed that up...I know what I did wrong and stuff..I feel stupid cuz we just covered that. lol My bad...

BIC: weston started at the problem, he gave up and layed his head down on the desk

Melanie Hunter - December 20, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
*Melanie said 'I am in the team Ward' when she was supposed to. She glanced at the board for only a second before looking down at her desk, which she found much more interesting*

~Mel

Kiley Stewert - December 22, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
ooc: first problem was easy...that's like, algebra one stuff....I can't do the rest. lol

ic:

*Kiley mumbled I am team ward when she was supposed to. She coppied down the problem on the board and leaned back in her chair again, looking at her hands*
