Title: Writing about Atrocities
Description: (( open ))
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 02:16 AM (GMT)
Writing at home, required a wall-sized mirrior, because poise is perhaps the next most important thing to what is actually being penned. And of course, an antique desk rescued with a thousand galleons from an old Hungarian castle, polished like new. A gold carved quill, a leather-padded chair.
Aric insists that his room be dimly lit with vanilla-scented candles, because he feels that he is most beautiful in that light. Hogwarts is too common to afford him all these neccessities, but at least, the Room of Requirement is there for him.
Dipping his quill, he scritches carefully accross the parchment, directly imported from Egypt. He would detail all of the shortcomings of his new school and beg to be sent back home.
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 05:49 AM (GMT)
Diana had been walking to the RoR a pair of sweats on and a tank top with a blue sweater on with her hair up. She was going to go work out and take a few punches at a punching bag, something she did often just to stay in shape and sorts. Not even thinking of knocking and being in her own thoughts she opened the door humming to herself.
Looking up from the ground she saw a guy, writing at a desk with a candle lit. Stopping immeadiately in her tracks she said, "Sorry didn't know anyone was in here."
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 05:58 AM (GMT)
He writes his letters home in Latin, because his tutor likes to send them back with red pen marks, and if he writes them in English, his tutor gets angry and his mother teary-eyed, firing back an almost too tender letter inquiring why her only son is neglecting his studies that places him above the commonfolks.
At the sound of a strange voice, Aric turns and leans back on his chair, "...It is quite all right." Is the sentiment that he offers, until of course, he finds that the lady turns out to be a b*tch or something like.
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 06:03 AM (GMT)
Diana watched the guy, she noticed something about him but couldn't quite put her finger on it. As he told her it was alright she nodded saying, "Thanks." Standing there she continued looking around the room curiousity getting the best of her. "Seems like your comfortable," was what slipped from her lips as she took in the room.
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 06:10 AM (GMT)
Aric twirls his quill absently in one hand. "My study at home looks something like this." He crosses his legs and turns back to the parchment, and then he quickly looses interest in trying to search his head for Latin, turns to her again. Perhaps having a conversation with this stranger would bolster his claims that Hogwarts is indeed a dump of sorts.
He waves his hand and is reminded of ordering around servants at home, how quickly a chair identical to his own appears where he wills it. "Have a seat, I trust you will find it comfortable."
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 06:15 AM (GMT)
As the other said it looked somewhat like this at his study at home she couldn't help but letting a small smile slip. After seeing him turn back to his paper Diana was about to turn and leave until she heard him say have a seat. Looking at him she shrugged and walked over sort of cautiously and sat down. "I see you are correct, it is indeed comfortable so far. By the way I'm Diana." She thought it would be good to introduce herself.
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 06:22 AM (GMT)
Aric finishes a sentence and turns again. this time, he puts his quill down. "I thought you would find as much. Very few would find Italian leather otherwise." He pauses slightly, to wave a glass of champagne, without firewhiskey ruining it, into existence. "The name is Kaiser, miss, Aric Kaiser."
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 06:30 AM (GMT)
Diana smiled a little. "You thought humm? Well I guess I'm just that readable," she said scooting back in the chair some. She had to admit she'd never really sat in anything this nice before, it was different. She watched as a glass appeared in front of them but quickly turned her gaze to Aric when he introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you," she said then asked, "Now which name would you prefer your first or last?" It might seem like a useless question, but you never knew some people preferred to be called by the their last name or a totally differnet name.
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
Aric takes a slow sip from the glass, the taste soured only by the memory at the bar earlier that week, how he so mindlessly degraded such a beverage. The servants call him 'Young Lord', acquaintances, 'Master Kaiser', and only the most intimate of friends call him plain 'Aric'. But this is a depraved society if he has ever saw one.
"...Aric will do." He says calmly.
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
Diana waited patiently for his answer. She knew once this conversation started it was going to be interesting. The way he acted reminded her of some people she knew and really in reality when it came down to it they weren't that bad at all, maybe it was the same with Aric, but she wouldn't know unless the conversation went on.
"Alright Aric," she said stopping for a moment. "I'm guessing you must be a Slytherin, right?" She finished wanting to get the usual questions out of the way.
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
Aric supposes that it must not be a hard guess, since all he seems to do, is flaunt himself in such a way to be associated with Slytherin. Not that it is a bad thing, at least no one mistakes him for a Hufflepuff. "Yes, a sixth year, Slytherin, to be exact."
He looks at her, "...How about yourself, miss?"
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
Diana nodded, she had a feeling she was right. It was usually easy to tell what people belonged to which houses, especially if you've been at Hogwarts since first year. As he asked her the question she replied with a small smile, "I'm a 5th year Ravenclaw."
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
Aric finishes his letter, signing off the name, with his usual dramatic flourish, he signs his English name, because all the Latin names that his tutor even he has the nerve to come up with, are poison to the tongue.
He puts the letter aside, and leans one elbow on the desk. "...So it is. Would Miss like something to drink? The air in my study is always on the dry side."
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
Diana looked curiously over at what he was writing but saw it was in a different language, one she had no study in. She let out a sigh as she heard him put aside his letter and speak to her. Glancing at him she replied, "Sure why not." As Diana waited she asked, "Who were you writing to? If I may ask."
Aric Kaiser - January 4, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)
She has not told him what she wanted. Yet something in Aric prevents him from summoning a glass of champagne for her. The girl looks awkward enough sitting in that chair as it were. He at last decides on mineral water. "...It is mineral water. I wasn't quite sure that champagne would fit to your liking." He explains, as the glass appears.
He looks at the letter, "...This? This is a letter home."
Diana Wulfric - January 4, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
As the glass appeared and Aric explained why he hadn't chosen champange she couldn't help but smile. "Mineral water's fine with me, thanks," she told him not really caring anyway, she had tried both before and either one would have been okay.
As he answered her question she nodded slowly. "So where do you live?" She asked looking toward him trying to keep the conversation going.
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 12:02 AM (GMT)
"Live?" The question catches him off guard, but Aric says calmly, while sealing the letter, "...In Wales, miss, in a place much like this...except every room looks more or less like this room here. Certain rooms such as the kitchen aside, obviously." Actually, Aric hasn't been in the kitchen for a long time, he used to go when he was younger to steal food, but he's older now. It would have been ridiculous.
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
Diana heard him question what she asked and wondered why he did, it was usually something people didn't question. As he went on she nodded showing that she was listening. Once he was finished she said, "Wales humm? I've been there once or twice, a nice place," she told him then added with a slight tilt of her head, "You don't hear that everyday, I mean practically all of the rooms being the same. I think it'd get boring." A part of her hoped she hadn't offened him in anyway, if she did of course she would apologize.
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 12:14 AM (GMT)
"I in no way think that, perhaps it might be true that living in a house with excess leathers and satins would become...as you say, boring, but for me, not yet." How could he think otherwise, to belittle the endless wealth of the Kaisers? Aric smiles, "...So no, it hasn't gotten boring yet."
He looks her over because he hasn't done it yet, and he is curious, she is wearing sweats, not attire one would usually be proud of. "...If I may miss, why are you...attired this way?"
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
Diana listened to what he said and shrugged. When she saw his smile Diana knew she was making progress, it seemed from what she had noticed about him, that wasn't a usual thing he did. "Well people have different opinions," she said.
As she saw him look her over she kept her emotions contained and stayed calm. As he asked the question she shrugged, "I was coming here to work out but as you can see you were here first and you asked me to sit so I did. Otherwise I would have left and came back later."
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
Aric waves his hand and his glass is refilled instantly. Creasing the envelope nonchalantly with one hand, he takes a sip. "...I see, do you work out here often? It is not a habit that I would expect...someone like you to have. It surprises me." He does not say that to be offensive, although he really wonders if she would take it as such.
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
Diana raised an eyebrow as he said this to hear. "Why does it suprise you?" She asked cuirously then shrugged. She did every once in a while but lately she often came down her more. "Not usually, but lately I've been coming down here more often."
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
"...It just does." Aric says, as if such a question requires no other explanation. "...A welcome change from back home...I suppose." He puts the envelop down. At least the ladies and gents share some surface habits here. Something new, in my book."
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
Diana smirked slightly and turned toward Aric. She knew he must have came from the part of town most wouldn't even be able to imagine for themselves. "Once you search this place more Aric, you'll find there are a lot of habits girls and boys share," she told him taking a drink from her glass. It was the truth.
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
"I have no intention of searching anything. I'm sure everything will come up evnetually. Imagine what the people back home will think..." Aric smirks slightly, "...I'm sure even Othello would have a hard time imagining such..."
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 04:45 AM (GMT)
Diana gave him a confused look. She didn't understand what he meant about what the people back home would think. What was that supposed to mean, she thought to herself. After a moment she asked, "What do you mean by that?"
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 04:58 AM (GMT)
"The aristocratic society of every country...Wales, England...Ireland, are all plagued still by old values, that women are viewed as domestic creatures only convenient for culinary and fashionable purposes. Even Othello thought so...to a point."
He wonders if his explanations are too blunt. "That's why it's different for me."
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
Diana nodded, of course she should have known. Sighing she shrugged saying, "Well it's quite different here, you'll figure that out in time." She was silent for a few minutes lost in her thoughts when her tounge got the better of her she said, "I personally don't care for the old ways, no offence or anything. It's just I believe us, females of course are capable of much more."
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 05:09 AM (GMT)
"So does everyone else, aristocratics aside, it seems." Aric finds this conversation amusing, it has been a while since he has held this kind of talk, with someone besides Othello. "I take no offence, miss." It is not like he really cares, if she hates him, that would be okay too, but then he will be bored again, forced to write another letter in Latin.
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 05:13 AM (GMT)
Diana nodded looking around the room once again her eyes wandering then finally landing on the letter. She was thinking of asking what kind of language the letter was in but then that'd show she was looking. With anthor sigh she bit her lip out of habit and glanced back to Aric. "So how long have you been here, at Hogwarts I mean."
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
Aric refills his glass without speaking, and he brushes a hand past the letter. He would have to mail it later, he sticks it inside his pocket because he is afraid he might forget. "Two weeks, give or take."
He gets out a fresh sheet of parchment, thinking that he might start a new letter. A letter to Othello, which he will write, in honest to goodness English.
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 05:26 AM (GMT)
Diana nodded, she knew it wouldn't have been longer than month. As she finished her drink she thought of a butterbeer which appeared right in front of her. As she took it taking a sip she noticed Aric get out a new piece of parchment. After a moment she said, "I see you must have a lot to write about."
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 05:32 AM (GMT)
"The first one was obligatory." He dips the golden quill in the inkwell again, and pauses, "...This one, I actually feel like writing, at least he doesn't mind that I write in English, although he prefers German, as that is all he ever speaks at home."
The mineral water is replaced by something else, shattering his perfect arrangement, yet he says nothing about it. Richness is not everyone's cup of tea, figuratively speaking.
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
"And who is he? If you don't mind me asking," Diana said as she watched him dip his quill into ink. She was wondering if she was asking to many questions, she'd been known to do that once in a while. Not thinking he would tell her so she asked, "I'm not bothering you am I Aric?"
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 05:48 AM (GMT)
"I would tell you if you were, miss. I don't believe in lying to hide my own discomfort for the benefits of others." Aric smirks, "...Othello is my twin brother." He always quiets down when he talks about Othello, because his brother is everything he is not. "He would have come here with me, but he is bedridden."
He begins to write as he talks, "...And I get to write this letter in English."
Diana Wulfric - January 5, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
Diana smiled at him, finally someone like him who would actually say how they were feeling every once in a while. "Alright, as long as you wouldn't sit her and listen to me, just because." She quieted after this waiting for the answer to her other question. When she heard Othello was his twin brother she finally understood why he talked about him so much.
When he said his brother was bedridden she looked down slightly and said, "I'm sorry Aric, I hope that someway somehow he gets better," she said trailing off hoping those were that was good wording, she didn't want to upset him. "English humm? What other languages do you write in?" She asked trying to lighten the mood.
Aric Kaiser - January 5, 2007 09:56 PM (GMT)
Aric finds talking and writing (perhaps it is because he is permitted finally to write in English, with a dash of German) an easier task than he has first expected. "...I never do anything just because, miss. Everything has its own unreasonable reason."
He wonders how much he should reveal to her, that Othello has hemophilia isn't a fact that Aric is proud of. "...He's dealing." Is what he decides to offer, "...German is my native tongue, but recently, English has become more convenient. And there are respective tutors who hound me with Latin and Greek."
Diana Wulfric - January 6, 2007 10:36 PM (GMT)
"Unreasonable reasons, hummm? Interesting," Diana said taking a sip of her drink. As he went on saying his brother was dealing she nodded, thinking that maybe should be put to rest for the time being.
As he went on telling the languages she smiled slightly to ehrself, she'd always wanted to learn a different language, but really just hasn't made the time to do it. "You know quite a bit I'm guessing then," she said then asked looking over at him. "Would you mind saying a sentence in one of the languages, except English of course since I already know it."
Aric Kaiser - January 6, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Othello is no longer mentioned, which allows Aric to breathe a sigh of undisguised relief, his brother makes it clear that he doesn't want to pitied, yet the words 'my brother has hemophilia' will incite just that. He is glad that he is spared from saying it.
"...Well, I hate Greek with a passion, and Latin I just get by." Gesturing to her glass which now holds something completely foreign to him, he says in German, "...What are you drinking?"
Diana Wulfric - January 6, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)
Diana waited for him to say something. She watched him just incase he gestured toward something as he said the sentence. "I can imagine why you would dislike Greek, but Latin dosen't seem too bad, is it?" She asked as she layed her hands in her lap. When he said something in German (atleast she had a feeling since he didn't care for the other two languages) she saw him gesture to her drink and asked, "Did you ask what.....I'm drinking?"
