Title: Lumosers, I need YOUR help!

Melanie Hunter - June 20, 2007 02:49 AM (GMT)
Okay, it's the summer and it has always been a great time for us to get more members and get active again. So I'm looking to you for a few things:

1) Any ideas you might have that would draw people to the site. Not including advertising. I mean like things we could add or things we could do. One thing I'm considering doing is Character of the Month contests and getting some of the teacher characters active so the house points thing can actually go somewhere.

2) ADVERTISE! If you are on any sites that allow advertising, consider putting a link for us up. Don't spam advertise, but just spread the word some. Tell your friends even! Just do anything you can to get people here.

3) Get active! I know that the site has been loads more active lately, but if you could even just stop in and just show up on the home page for like...a minute everyday it could work wonders. Now posting more is even better, but I know not everyone can do that. :)

1 - It seems what people want is a professional RPG nowadays, I think we should limit post size to 3 lines plus in order to make the RP more professional. I know I've been against this in the past but I was an idiot in the past. lol.

- Ill get writing a new plot, again this seems to be a must have for RPGs if we have a structured, interesting and not too complex plot it can drive individual plots forwards.

- With yours and KIleys permission I can restructure the Rules so they are easier to read and follow. At the moment, they are a bit long winded and hard to read. Plus, there are tons of spilling mistcks (that was intended). Again, my fault because I drafted the rules.

- An abilities Application. A lot of sites seem to be having these. I like them, it restricts and gives out abilities to members. It allows us members to feel we have been rewarded for good RPing and also much more important to the site.
http://witherwings.uni.cc/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=996 -- an example of what Im talking about.

- Residences Application. Adults like to have housing, they are their own inventions and its really cool to have your own forum on the HP RPG. (These should be for adults only, students live at Hogwarts)

2 - We need to get ourselves on Topsites. Not the RPG Topsites but a whole host of other ones out there. Once we are on topsites we are much more recognisable in terms of RPG professionalism.

3 - Ive finished school now so I should RP more. Ill make my student wheelchair person and a new "normal" student character. Ill get making topics and try to regenerate Lumos.

Also some forums could be bundled into "Other Places" in order to make the board seem more active. Stuff like Ministry and Mungos etc... that hardley ever get used.

Ive posted a plot. Its basically background to where we are now. I was thinking all action and events can be in the form of "Sub Plot" topics.

Paige Robohn - June 20, 2007 11:03 AM (GMT)
Well with the more professional idea... I think it's good but I've seen some sites that do that and they're so restricted and uptight about everything. having a post limit? I don't think thats a good idea, just saying.

Tyrin Yates - June 20, 2007 03:07 PM (GMT)
I used to think that. But, the longer the post, generally means a better, more intense and well described RP. I mean, I dont think 3 lines is too much to ask.

Paige Robohn - June 20, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
but sometimes one line could mean the world to a plot, and sometimes people don't have the time. The more rules there are the less enjoyable it is. You want to keep the mystery going. Yeah, 1 to like 4 words isn't appropriate, but a one liner could be the key to a plot.

Tyrin Yates - June 20, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
An example?

Paige Robohn - June 20, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
I'm not going to go looking for one.
but what if someone wants to leave a mysterious clue?
Too many rules make it boring.

Melanie Hunter - June 20, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Adam, we'll continue this on MSN cause this topic will just get uber spammy if we don't.

I'm sorry but one-liners bug me. I have, in the past, put a lot into creating posts on this site and got really short answers and then my muse is gone; i have nothing to work on. I personally prefer longer posts.

Cole Vera - June 20, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
I have a suggestion and please don't get p****d or anything but....The layout is horrible. Well, not horrible. It looks cool, but it takes me FOREVER to read anything because the font color is so close to the background color. I have to highlight everything to even find the words...

Tyrin Yates - June 20, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Cole - you mustn't be looking at the same page as I am or your monitor is very, very bright. You can alter this by messing around with the buttons on your monitor.

Flame - I agree, many try to be creative only to get a one line response.

Paige Robohn - June 20, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
I was actually going to mention something about the layout also.
It's very creative, and must have been difficult to make, kudos goes to who made it, but.
It's very very dark and uninviting.
I was looking at the # 1 site, and it's so gorgeous with alot of colors, its inviting. we should try something like that.

Cole Vera - June 20, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
AAHH okay this looks better lol. I retract my earlier statement then...

Finnigan Tatupu - June 20, 2007 10:05 PM (GMT)
Something else that may drive plots is putting the plot board back up at the top. I know it was recently moved, but it used to be at the top and plots started and developed sooner.

Tyrin Yates - June 21, 2007 09:52 AM (GMT)
I want a light layout. ANd possibley a side bar. Ive never been a fan of dark layouts.

Finn - you have been coming up with some good ideas of late. Whats wrong? (joke lol)

Melanie Hunter - June 21, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Adam....wasn't it YOUR idea to use this layout?

Anywho, I hate sidebars but if you guys want one we can do it. One thing I do NOT want is a Cbox unless...everyone else wants one. lol.

~Mel

Paige Robohn - June 21, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
Ugh please no C-boxes I hate hate hate those things. This Layout is definitely cute, but it's just so dark. If it's too fancy it'll scare people but if it has a nice color scheme then it could work. This is monochromatic in like a dark way and kind of dank looking. if we used analogous or complimentary, I think it would look much nicer.
just suggestingg. =].

Simner Farden - June 24, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
I agree with the lighter colors... maybe something like the old lumos... (god I miss it). Just because it is hard to read at some points during the day. I agree no side bar or c-box. I would say a good color scheme would work wonders.

Melanie Hunter - June 24, 2007 03:49 AM (GMT)
I think what our problem was was that we were trying to stick with a Harry Potter theme. I'll look into lighter ones just incase we decide to change and we might let you guys vote on your favorite so that way you can only blame yourselves if you hate it. :D *grins innocently* I'm not saying that that is certainly going to happen, though.
