Ok, JKRowling announced that their is something important about Harry having Lilly's eyes, at school we are struggling to find any answer to this, but I thought I'd open it to discussion here and see your views.
I think that it's just a sign of his mother's love. I heard an interesting theory that Lily's soul merged with Harry's and her eyes are the other part of her that survived, but I doubt that. I think his eyes are a sign that lily died for him, and they show that he is/was protected.
I think thats far to easy. It doesn't have enough meaning. I think it could have something to do with the Secret Garden. I have listened to the musical but haven't read the book in a long while. In the music there is a song about Mary having Lilly's eyes. see the closeness in the name Mary to Harry. Haha just kidding about the Mary Harry thing. I don't really thing that has meaning.
I do however think there could be some closeness in meaning. JKR has said she draws from other literature.
hi, i felt like some HP discussion, so im back for one day only, maybe more, depends how bored i get whilst my girlfriend is on holiday.
ok, Lily's eyes... let me think. personally, i agree with Simner in the fact that i think Finn's explanation is too vague and simple for JKR. JKR is a brilliant writer, and she has pin-pointed the eyes as being a major thing in the next book, so i think simply showing that she protected him is too simple, as we know all this already.
however, i think Simner's idea about it being tied to the Secret Garden is off. what meaning does that have, that its related to a song from another book? if its so important, then this cannot be the reason behind its importance. yes, JKR does draw ideas from other stories, but she does this and adapts it, not uses the idea exactly. the thing you described sounds too exact, especially if the song says the words "lily's eyes"
no, i think its going to be something that we can't work out. or at least n ot from the knowledge we have. i also think its going to be fairly minor in comparison to the other things that we know are going to be important. it will be major but minor if you understand what im saying. it will probably have an affect on things, but i think we should be looking elsewhere.
personally, i don't have a clue what the significance could be. the only relevance i could possibly come up with is the fact that his eyes are green, and so is Avada Kadavra. that appears to be of little significance when read like that, and i truly can't think of a way to expand that, but JKR is a much smarter person than i am, at least with writing ability.
I'm with Squall and Simner on the fact it is too simple. His eyes have been mentioned in every book... there has to be something BIG behing it.
