Ashby began to throw stones into the water. She was never good at making them skim across the water. She walked closer to the water and looked into it to see her refection. She decided to fold up her skirt alittle and go in a tiny bit deeper. As she id this her glasses fell from her pocket into the water. She looked down and they were nowhere to be found. "Crap" She muttered trying to search in water now.

Jacob was out by the lake, he was bored and out for a walk. He happened to notice a girl with her skirt rolled up and splashing around in the water, apparently looking for something. "Need some help?" he asked, not getting into the water but standing beside it.

Ashby looked up at the sound of someones voice. "Actually yes." She admitted. "I'm pretty much blind right now and my glasses are in the water...somewhere." She laughed nervously.

He wasn't about to get in the water before looking around to see if he could see the glasses first. He knelt by the water and looked closely. He waded into the water, just a few feet, and picked up the glasses. He dried them off with his shirt before handing them to her. "There you go." he said.

Ashby squinted her eyes to blurly holding her glasses. She then smiled as she started to come out of the water. "Thank you so much" She said reaching for them when she got closer to him. She placed them on her face. "I'm Ashby by the way." She said smiling warmly and exteded her hand.

He shook her hand gently. "No problem. Jake." he replied with a slight smile, his arrogant nature showing. He didn't mean to be that way, that's just how he was.

Ashby's smiled lessened a little bit. A breeze passed by and she shivered little bit realising she was still wet from the lake but she shrugged it off. "So how old are you?" she decided to ask.

"Sixteen. And you are...?" he asked. He noticed how her smile faded and regretted how cocky he was, there weren't many people he didn't act act arrogant around.

"14..15 soon." she said. She grabbed her robe that was on the floor and put it on until she was stop shivering slightly. "What house are you in?" she asked. She figured slytherin based on how he was kind of acting. "I'm in Ravenclaw." she added.

"I'm a Slytherin." and proud of it too, that was obvious from his prideful smile and tone when answering her. He wasn't that fond of the seperation of students into houses, but that didn't stop him from taking pride in his house.

She laughed slightly. "I had a feeling." she said. "Well what are you into?" She asked trying to make conversation. She decided to take a seat on the floor. Her legs were getting tired of standing.

Jake sat too, he didn't like sitting on the ground much but he decided it wouldn't kill him. "Anything that doesn't involve people," he answered, "I like peace and quiet."

"You don't like hanging out or being around people?" She asked curiously. She then took her robe off now that she wasn't shivering anymore.

"I can handle a few people, I don't like crowds." he replied. "People are too noisy sometimes though, I'd rather be alone sometimes." he said. He really just didn't like people because he thought he was better than most of them, but he wouldn't say that out loud.

"Well that's kind of understandable." She shrugged. People were nosiy at time and she could understand if that would annoy him. "Do you have friends?" The question probably didn't come out the way she wanted it to.

"A few." he said, not taking offense to the question. It was understabdable, between the way he acted and his complaining about people, he sometimes wondred how he had any friends.

Ashby smiled alittle bit once he said he had a few friends. She then scratched her head and thought for a minute. SHe was rather bored and had been even more bored this entire day. She kenlt down a minute and wet her hand and splashed Jake slightly and smiled a litle. She shrugged. "I'm a little bored." she finally said

Jake laughed when she splashed him with the water. "Me too." he admitted. He dipped his hand in the water and splashed her back. "What should we do?" he aked her.

Ashby laughed while wiping the drips of water from her face away. "Hmm I don't know." she shrugged. She then eyed the water then back at him and smiled slightly. She attempted to push him into the water knowing most likely she wouldn't succeed beacuse she wasn't very strong, but she was hoping she would catch him off guard.

Jake saw it coming but he pretented not to and fell in on purpose. He imediately remembered that he hated swimmimg, but it was too late, he was already in the water.

Ashby was laughing as she saw Jacob fall in the water but of course miss clumsy didn't realise sthat she didn't keep her on balance and wound up faling in as well. "Oh darn it." she said to herself then laughed loudly at her clumsyness. Ashby being bored again started to go farther into the water. "Come on I'm bored." she said trying to drag him by his hand.

He follwed obediently. "Where are we going?" he asked with a chuckle. he wasn't a very strong swimmer so he didn't follow very quicly, he hoped they didn't get too far from shore.

Ashby smiled when he was following. "Just a bit further in the water. I mean I'm bored and maybe if I can drown you I wont be bored anymore." She joked with him. She then just lied down in the water and floated a little bit. "You should try it." she said

"Drowning?" he asked, knowing that's not what she meant. "Maybe some other time." he joked He looked back toward the shore just to see how far out they were.

"Oh darn I was kind of hoping I could drown you." She smiled. She noticed him looking back towards the shore. "What's the matter?" she asked standing up. The water came up to about her chest and it was pretty cold but not freezing or anything.

"Nothing." he replied, looking back toward her. "I just don't want to get too far out, especially with there being a giant squid and all." he didn't admit that he was a weak swimmer.

Ashby's eyes widened. "Gian squid?" she asked. she quickly got closer to him and grabbed onto his arm. "There's a giant squid in here?" she asked. getting slight scared as she held onto his arm for dear life.

He touched her hand slightly to tell her she needed to loosen her grip a little. "Yeah, but it's harmless. I don't think its ever hurt anyone, I'd just rather not risk it." he replied calmly.

Ashby realized that she waas grabbing his arm a little too tightly. She loosened her grip and turned to him. "Ok but...it's harmless/" she asked. She sighed. She wouldn't care as long as the squid was basically harmless.

"Yeah, unless you made it mad or something, then it probably wouldn't be harmless." he said. "But I doubt it'll even come near us." he said to reasure her, even though he would rather get out of the water.

Ashby was happy once he told her that. '' Do yout want to get out of the water or soemthing?" she asked noticing he looked at the the shore a few times.

"No, I'm fine." he lied. Hewondered how deep they would actually go, he knew that there were other creatures in the water that weren't so harmless and doubted he would be able to get away. He knew he would probably be fine, but he couldn't help but worry a little.

"Oh well are you sure?" Ashby asked again to just make sure. Ashby was getting a weird feeling that he might not like the water or something. "Becuase I mean we could go back to shore if you want?" Ashby asked him just incase.

"No...really, it's fine." he considered telling her that he did want to back but he decided against it. He hid any doubt that might have shown on his face so she would believe him.

Ashby smiled. "Well good because i really didn't to go back." She said. Even with the ceatures in the lake she really didnt want to go back. She felt something squirm past her and brush her leg. She jumped on Jacob's back. "Oh um..yea sorr." she mumbled blushing a little bit.

Jacob laughed. "That's okay." he said, "What happened?" he asked her. He then felt something brush his leg and he jumped and almost fell with her still on his back.

Ashby laughed slightly. "Well-" she was iterrupted by him jumping as well. She tightened her grip on his back afraid she was about to fall. "That's what happened." She said. "You elt that? What do you think it is?" she asked still not leaving his back.

"A fish?" he said with a laugh. "I think it's safe, it's not going to eat you or anything." At least Jake hoped it wouldn't. He wasn't actually so sure if it really was a fish or not.

Ashbye laughed alittle bit feeling rather stupid. She hopped off his back. "Not like I was scared or anything." She joked smiling at him. "I mean you were scared not me." she said again.

"Yeah, that's why I jumped straight out of the water onto your back." he joked with a smile. Something brushed past his leg again and jumoed a little again.
