Title: Should we have removed the Room of Love?
Tyrin Yates - July 26, 2007 01:27 PM (GMT)
Vote on whether you think the Room of Love should have been removed a while back.
Flame Lestrange - July 26, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)
I liked the room of love, it meant you could have topics of a sexual nature and actually RP it instead of having to just skip it all.
Finnigan Tatupu - July 26, 2007 04:10 PM (GMT)
I think it was better that we removed it. It removed all of the smut that was on the site. It made it more family friendly and more appealing to younger kids.
Cecelia Ferrari - July 27, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
I have two perfect examples of why it would be good to have it.
Cecelia and Dorien: He was a vampire that had never had sex before and is like, 120 years old or something. It could have shown the gentle nature, and his fear, and it would have been sweet, not dirty at all.
Brielle and Tyrin: She is power hungry and for the first time allowing herself to submit to him, and be vulnerable. Would have been a good thing but unfortunately, was not allowed.
Tyrin Yates - July 27, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
Cecilia is right. But, I can see pros and cons.
Its definatley one to discuss.
Melanie Hunter - July 27, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
I definitely still think that it's ultimately better not to have it and yet have the "Sometime later" stuff. I mean...it doesn't matter if it's sweet and innocent or whatever...it's still the nasty and it's still against invisionfree TOS.

Or more precisley this part:
| QUOTE |
| (B) Abusive, threatening, defamatory, racist, or obscene Content; |
Obscene Content? Is it really obscene? The way I see it, it seems to refer to obscene multimedia - videos and images. Not roleplaying.
The flip side is that invisionfree deem this to be against the Terms.
Brielle Creveaux - July 27, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
There is a very big distinction between "the nasty" and "lovemaking". If it's dirty, steamy, put-it-in-my-mouth type sex then yeah, it's obscene, but if it's a gentle exchange then I don't see the harm...
Tyrin Yates - July 27, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
Where do we draw the line? Can there be a line on such a vague topic?
Melanie Hunter - July 27, 2007 06:15 PM (GMT)
I don't really think there is a line, nor can there be one. I classify obscene as anything that you wouldn't normally show the public. And unless you're weird, you wouldn't normally show the public what you do in bed or what's underneath your clothes.
~Mel
Brielle Creveaux - July 27, 2007 06:18 PM (GMT)
The line could be "if you really feel this is important to your plot or character development, it is allowed, otherwise not." And maybe specify that if your character is a whore, it's not allowed. Or tell each character that they're allowed one visit to the ROL per month or so. Because what if it's the case of rape? I feel thats important too.
Finnigan Tatupu - July 27, 2007 08:11 PM (GMT)
RPing sex scenes won't further your characters development.? The truth is that sexual role play doesn't help further your character any more than if you had said some time later... if you say some time later, it is implied that your character had sex.
As for the definition of obscene, I think that if you don't feel comfortable posting it in front of your mother, it's probably obscene.
Adeyla Kain - July 27, 2007 08:22 PM (GMT)
It SOO does further character development. It does because you can show a tender moment that people may reveal in this moment, but not in the average day. If it bothers people then they shouldn't read it, which is why it made perfect sense to have the room of love with a password.
Finnigan Tatupu - July 27, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
You can do the exact same thing if you say some time later. Here's the other thing. Up to the seventh book, not once does it mention anything about sex. Even in the seventh book, it is talking about a book that will help you meet girls. It is unrealistic according to JKR to even have sex in the schools. It is never mentioned in any of the books.
There's no reason that 'tender moments' can't happen after you say sometime later.
Melanie Hunter - July 27, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
...Or any other time, like...in the prologue...I mean...the kissing. lol.
As for rape, it can still be rape without you playing it out. That's what Adam and I did.
I just...I really don't see why it's so necessary to play out sex. I mean....they even skip over it in movies and shows. Why? Because if they showed it, it would be porn, and porn of any sort is just.....gah. And for us, it's against the rules and invision free TOS.

Adeyla Kain - July 28, 2007 02:21 AM (GMT)
Well I feel then that it would be fair to have a compromize of everything leading up to sex being allowed, (save oral because that's still sex people) up to nudity, to show the tender moment but just block out the actual penis vagina, or penis butt or vagina vagina parts... (just wanted to include all the sexual preferences out there)
Finnigan Tatupu - July 28, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
That is still obscene. Would you want your mother reading about your character stripping down to nothing?
Everything up to sex is allowed. You just can't go into the graphic details. Mel is right, it is a violation of the agreement by invisionfree. Part of an RP is reading. People don't want to read about stripping and other posts of a sexual nature. No normal person wants to read about that... I would be worried about the ones that do...
Bottom line is that the admins have to abide by the agreement, which doesn't allow obscene content. Sexual content is obscene content.
Tyrin Yates - July 28, 2007 08:36 AM (GMT)
The Admins have discussed this and have agreed to ignore the Room of Love. We dont feel it is fitting for what is centrally a Harry potter Role playing game and with many teens under the age of consent on this site things can get very awkward.
I may rewrite the "no sex" rule in order to make it absolutley clear what is and isn't allowed.
Thanks for everyones input - but eventually Finn's argument and our own thoughts ended this debate.
Melanie Hunter - July 28, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
Can I just say something uber quick-
Right now you ARE allowed to post everything up to the start of the deed. I'm pretty sure you always have been...well, as long as I've been admin.
