Jake Penny walked through the dark, cold dungeons. He had woken up in a foul mood that had just worsened throughout the day. Now, he wasn't feeling nearly as irritable but he had managed to work up a headache; he wasn't feeling very friendly at the moment. He felt like being alone but walking in the quiet dungeons by himself only gave him time to think, which was only starting to make him angry again.

Keeping to herself, Paige held her schoolbooks over her chest, squeezing them tight. she walked quickly, uncomfortable enough down here. It gave her bad thoughts that as much as she tried, she couldn't push away. A tear fell numbly down her cheek but she wiped it away harshly and continued on. She was just coming from potions and accidentally ran into a boy. They knocked heads and her stuff flew everywhere.
'Typical, more trouble.' She thought to herself. With a heavy heart she quickly bent to the floor to pick up her stuff. she stood up again and looked at the kid. He looked like an angry person.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going." she said earnestly and hole heartedly. He was a slytherin, and she was a gryffindor so she didn't want trouble. Despite her life being in ruins she still had to keep up with herself.

He put his hand to his already hurting head when the girl ran into him. Despite being angry, Jake wasn't usually rude, maybe a little arrogant, but not rude. "No, that's all right." It didn't sound sincere, but it was the best he could do at the moment. He straightened up a little and put his hand back by his side, resuming his usual, haughty disposition. "It was an accident." He still didn't sound sincere, especially with the proud, uncaring way he had said it. He had a habit of being that way around people, especially those who he had just met.

Paige stood up, and really looked at him for the first time. He looked like an angry person. but she knew from experience, they always did.
"Y-yeah." She mumbled, holding her books tight across her chest again.
she looked down, afraid to look at him again.

Jake felt sort of bad, he didn't want her to be scared of him. "I'm Jake." he introduced himself. He sounded a little kinder, but he still had an 'I'm better than you' tone. He didn't mean to speak that way, it was just an automatic reaction. His father acted very arrogant too, even worse than Jake, so it was a trait that he had picked up a long time ago.

Paige looked up again. Today hadn't been her best of days, because she usually wasn't intimidated.
"H-hi. I'm Paige." She heard his tone, and responded clearly. She was loud, but not too loud, and clear and pronounced. She had the perfect voice.

Jake actually smiled slightly when she answered him. He didn't want her to feel intimidated, although it probably seemed quite the opposite to her. "It's nice to meet you Paige." he replied, "Do you mind if I ask what house you're in?" He had already guessed that it wasn't Slytherin. He spoke more politely now and less haughtily. His headache had even started to subside a little now that he had something to keep his mind off of the things he had been thinking about all day.

she raised an eyebrow slightly with a VERY small smile. slytherins, this nice? especially just random ones, not like Cecelia or Delilah, who had gone missing....
"I'm in gryffindor. and you're slytherin?" She said with an air slightly unlike herself.

"Is it that obvious?" He asked jokingly, "Everyone always guesses my house before I even get a chance to tell them." He didn't mind though, he was proud of being in Slytherin but he didn't dislike people from other houses. He thought the whole Slythering vs. Gryffindor rivalry was stupid.

Paige smiled with a short laugh. She pushed her bangs out of her face, for about the fifth time in the past 10 minutes. freaking hair. He seemed like he could be one of the better slytherins.
"You just seem...like some of them."

"I wish I could take that as a compliment." he said, still smiling "I don't like the way most Slytherins act." He looked around after the last sentence just to make sure there weren't any other Slytherins around. Even though he couldn't take what she had said as a compliment, he knew she was right, he got mad at himself for the way acted sometimes.

Paige shrugged and raised a hand to exaggerate it.
"2 of my closest friends were slytherins, before they left." Paige gulped, she shouldn't have said that. she missed Cecelia and Delilah like crazy, and even though they hadn't talked in forever, she had loved them. Alot.
"They're not all bad."

"I've met some that were nice enough, at least to me. I'm in Slytherin too so that might be the reason why, but for the most part, I would rather talk to someone outside of my own house." he replied

"Hmm. Well who are you friends with?" She said, tilting her head slightly and raising her shoulder. She flipped her hair onto her back, it had been hanging loosely on her shoulders. She placed one hand on the top of her books and played with the fringed edges of the papers. She needed to keep herself busy.

I don't really have that many friends, I like being alone." he said with a shrug. He wondered if he should mention Kiley or not considering everything that had been going on with the Family. "Well, I do have a girlfriend...she's in Gryffindor." He didn't want Paige to have reason to pick on Kiley, especially if she already knew she was a werewolf. Going out with a Slytherin would probably just single her out even more, but Paige seemed nice enough...

Paige was taken aback a bit, but not blown away.
"Who is she? I'm surprised, but I know worse things...for example, my closest friends are in Slytherin. or at least, they were, as I already mentioned. And my fiance is a ravenclaw, but an ex-deatheater while my family is anti-evil." After saying this, Paige's jaw dropped and she covered her mouth with her hand. she wasn't supposed to say that. oops.

Jake's raised his eyebrows slightly, but it was more out of curiosity than surprise. The ex-deatheater fiance made him wonder if he should say Kiley's name after all. If he was a deatheater he might be a member of the family now. But maybe she didn't even know Kiley...Either way it was too late to back out now, she would be suspicious if he didn't tell her. "Her name's Kiley." he said in an unusually quiet voice, not commenting on anything else Paige had said.

"Kiley Stewert? I know her. I'm sorta friends with her friend Melanie. She seems pretty chill." Paige said, also quietly. She was an IDIOT. How could she do that? that was a SECRET. well she had a loud mouth, sucked for Cole, didn't it? Maybe he should never have told her. he knew her. whatever. she looked at the ground.

Jake breathed a sigh of relief. "So, about your fiance. Now what is he? I mean, now that he's not a deatheater any more. Is he part of the family?" He asked her in a hushed tone so if anyone was near them they couldn't hear. He sae her cover her mouth when she had let it slip that he was a death eater, so he didn't want to let even more people know about it. The dungeons seemed quiet and deserted enough, but he didn't want to take any chances.

"The family? He's a pureblood, a long line of them. I don't know what you mean by the family. His whole family is filled with deatheaters except for his cousins." She said in a hushed tone. It was too late now, and it didn't matter if she said more at this point. he knew.

She hadn't even heard of the Family? "The Family..."he began in a hushed tone, "Is a cult...they believe that creatures like werewolves and centaurs and such are below wizards." He knew very little else, besides the fact that they killed and tortured these magical creatures, but he decided to leave that out.

She shook her head.
"I don't think so...he's not into that at all. He may have been at one point, but, not to be full of myself but because of me he's changed into a better person and isn't like that. He never mentioned it to me if he was in it." Wit hthat she shrugged her shoulders, and shook her head a little.

"Okay, I was just...wondering." he felt a little better knowing that. He doubted Paige even knew that ki was a werewolf, but if she did at least he knew that she wasn't against her. "I'm not either." he felt it was important to add.

Paige rolled her eyes.
"I bet it's just another one of those groups around here that keeps trying to rise up, like a few people had groups that were about muggle killing or stuff like that. it'll die down eventually, I bet."

"I'm not so sure." he said gravely. "It's growing pretty fast, a lot of people seem to like their ideas." he said "Have you seen anyone walking around with an orange sash lately?" he asked her, "The family wears them." he knew that from asking around about them.

"Well, I've seen quite a few, but...How could anyone support that? It's such a stupid idea." Once more Paige rolled her eyes. Come on now folks. You can come up with better ideas than discrimination against animals, you know? Hogwarts was turning into a hell hole, and it was ridiculous.

"I don't know, but it I think it goes beyond Hogwarts." He said, "I heard they've actually killed and tortured magical creatures, and they somehow get away with it." he added, "But that could have just been rumor..." he doubted it, but he was still hoping it might be.

Paige shrugged and sighed one last time.
"I don't know, I hope this whole situation doesn't go too far, you know? I don't think it will, but, you know. just saying and everything." Paige smiled lightly.

"I don't think it will last either." He tried to convince himself it wouldn't. He had agreed to join the resistance and for his sake, and Kiley's, he hoped this ended without too much of a fight.

"Yeah. I mean, everyone's not doing it so it couldn't be too powerful. and I've never even heard of it." Once more, Paige swept those annoying bangs out of her face and leaned her shoulder on the wall, putting one ankle over the other.

He silently wondered how long it would be before everyone knew about it. He thought how many more people would join when they heard about it...He had a feeling the resistance was going to be very outnumbered. "They'll be stopped somehow." Jake said more to himself than her. But the words held little encouragement. He was normally the type of person who hid any emotion, especially fear, but right now fear was written all over his face. This was the first time he had fully contemplated what this cult was and what they might be capable of.

Paige shook her head yes, agreeing with him.
"It'll be over soon, wait and see. thisstuff doesn't last long." She said with confidence that she didn't have. he made it seem like this time this was no joke. This was serious. Why did crisis' always happen when Cole had to leave her? It wasn't fair.

"Let's talk about something else." Jake said after remaining silent for a moment. "What year are you in?" he asked randomly. He didn't want to think about the family right now, he would have plenty of time to worry about them later.

"6th. And you?" Paige said, gesutring with one hand towards him. he looked old, but if his girlfriend was kiley he may have been younger than her. She began twiddling her thumbs, she needed to keep her hands busy. She was glad he had changed the subject. she hadn't liked that discussion alot.

"Seventh." he said, "And I have no idea what I'll do after I gradguate." he added with a small smile. "What about you, do you know what you're going to do?" he asked her.

Paige shrugged.
"Probably something to help my mother, when she's not shopping for expensive clothing and such, she's teaching young veelas the ways. She's a good teacher for them, considering their stuck up ways. We're part veela so we get along with them. It would make sense for me to do that, I think." Paige talked with charm in her voice, and a dazzling smile. She could be overpowering, being part veela, if she felt like it.

Jake looked away from her. "Yeah, it would. Both my parents are unemployed so that doesn't give me much to work with." he said, still afraid to look at her. He had a girlfriend, he reminded himself...

She wasn't turning on her charm on purpose, sometimes it just happened. At least, most of the time, okay, part of the time, she wasn't slutty about it.

"Mhm. Try something you're compatible with. You're closer to being finished than I am, so you might wanna think about it." just the look in her eyes at the moment would make anyone adore her. SHe didn't do it on purpose, she would never. Mostly.
She leaned her head against the wall. she hid her hands half in her sleeves, she hated them. they were dirty and small and rugged, she hated them and kept them unseen.

Jake meade the mistake of looking at her again, assuming it was safe. He tried to focus on the conversation, he couldn't bring himself to turn away from her again. "Yeah...Maybe." he replied absently, he felt guilty, but e couldn't help it. She was, after all, part veela.

She broke her gaze at him, and looked down. She knew, she knew she had done it again. she hated this about herself. most girls wanted it, but not when you're in love with someone else and everyone you look at magically adores you. Was it, her great grandmother who had been part veela and married into the family? then came her mom, then her, and now Melody, her baby girl. Oh man she didn't want to get into it.
"So. You want to know something?" she said lightly.
