Title: Middle of the Night
Description: Mei
Logan Corso - December 4, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
*It was very late at night. Maybe even considered early. Logan had been woken up because his heater had stopped working and he was freezing. Logan rolled out of bed and grabbed a white t-shirt ff his floor. He pulled it on and dashed arcoss the room over to the furnace. He kicked it in his bare foot and then groaned, doubling over from the pain in his foot. Logan ignored the pants and the shoes and just starte for the door in his boxers and t-shirt. At the last minute he remembered to grab his key and lock the door to his appartment.
Logan went down the hall and up one flight of steps in the dark. He was gad that the day before he and Mei had figured out they shared an appartment complex. It was just like in school. He messed up, Mei was there to help him out. Or visa versa. But that was pretty rare.
Logan knocked on the door and leaned his head against the door frame* "Mei, it's Logan......" *He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand.* "Lemme in....." *His words were slurred slightly, somewhat from exaustion and somewhat from drinking earlier in the night. He could feel the headache already coming from the hangover that he idn't doubt would hit him in the morning. The smell of alcohol was still on his breath a little...he hoped she wouldn't be mad.*
Mei Feng - December 5, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
Mei had been peacefully sleeping when a loud knocking and shout awoke her. Needless to say she nearly jumped out of her skin. Groaning she virtually rolled from her bed and stretched before plodding over to her bedroom door.
On the way down the narrow hallway she grabbed her light blue dressing gown from the floor, where many of her clothes seemed to be 'stored', and chucked it over her pj's. The pajamas themselves consisted of yellow star patterned shorts and a yellow vest top and were obviously well worn.
She groggily opened the door to Logan still half asleep herself with her hair in slight disarray, the dressing gown slipping down one shoulder and her eyes half shut. In this state it was clear to tell she had not yet noticed the alcohol on his breath.
"Logan Corso I" Yawn "swear that if you're hear to get some emergency washing done" Yawn "I will kill you. Azkaban or not."
Logan Corso - December 5, 2007 11:13 PM (GMT)
*Logan grinned easily and chuckled* "Noooo, I um.....my heater broke. I'm cold....can I come in?" *He yawned as well, the grin returning as soon as it was over* "And my head hurts.....can I have some asprin? Pleeeaaase? It's not.....it's not that late....is it?" *He really didn't know the time...just that he was tired and cold*
Mei Feng - December 5, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
"I swear you haven't changed a bit." She sighed but her now awake eyes were full of hints of mirth. "Come on then, get inside before my apartment gets cold too. And next time try wearing trousers..."
She giggled brightly not bothering about his headache and stepped away form the door down the corridor and headed over to a closet. It was a good job she kept extra blankets. She pulled a soft woolen white blanket from its confines and turned back to the door.
"You should warm up...And whats with the headache? Like you said its not that late." She grinned as past memories sprung to mind, late night encounters had been common among the group of friends. One of them had always had something they just had to sort out that moment. Though Logan was undoubtedly the worst for it.
Logan Corso - December 5, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
*Logan gratefully came into the apartment and shut the door behind him* "Ooohhh, I don't know. It's not that bad of a headache." *He lied, taking the blanket and yawning again, this time breathing more in her face than he had before. Truthfully, the headache was getting worse by the minute. Logan wrapped the blanket tightly around himself and walked towards Mei's kitchen.* "I was uh...meeting with some old friends tonight."
Mei Feng - December 5, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
She wrinkled her nose in disgust when he breathed on her after taking the blanket, and in that moment it became clear exactly what his headache was from. He stunk of alcohol, she was amazed she hadn't smelt it before.
She locked the door behind him, to keep out other visitors, before following him into the kitchen; arms crossed across her chest and a frown marring her usually bright features. The dishevelled hair and outfit didn't much help the annoyed look.
"Humm, and i suppose these friends were Al and Cohol? Why on earth are you drinking yourself into hang overs Logan?" At his name her harsh tone soften almost as if she was asking him to gain an ounce of sense, sure she drunk too but she didn't drink as much as she could smell he had.
Logan Corso - December 5, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
" Because.......it's a habit." *He answered lamely as he proceded to open all her cabenets looking for some asprin.* "I was with Tyler....actually." *He hadn't really gotten the al-cohol thing, being a little out of it and all. But he still felt guilty admitting that he had been with Tyler....She had never really liked him. Tyler had always been his drinking buddy and a terrible influence.* "I'm sorry....it wasn't like I ment to drink so much..." *He hoped she didn't catch the lie. Of course he had. The wohle point of hanging out with Tyler was always to go to a pub and leave totally hammered.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 12:06 AM (GMT)
Mei seemed to transform instantly from mother to big sister. Which was never a good thing. And her hands planted themselves on her hip and the scowl vanished to be replaced with narrowed eyes.
"Tyler was, no is an complete jerk and you only visit him so he can buy in the rounds, i should of hexed him more back at Hogwarts maybe then he would have leaned some manners.... So don't lie to me Logan, how often do you do this to yourself?"
She gestured widely with her hands throughout the whole speech. before her tone softened and they dropped to her sides, now she sounded disappointed.
"It's a good job were friends or I'd kick your ass just about now." She pulled the aspirin from the draw she was stood in front of and threw it towards Logan aiming squarely for his forehead.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 12:12 AM (GMT)
*Logan kind ducked and sheilded his face with his forearm at the same time* "OW!" *He bottle had glanced off his shoulder and clattered to the floor* "Geeze Mei...." *Logan shot her a look as he bent to get the asprin. Logan unscrewed the lid and took out four, tossed back his head and took them all at once dry.* "I don't go drinking that often..." *It occured to him that he had taken asprin after he'd been drinking....which you wern't supposed to do. But he didn't say anything about it.* "Maybe twice a week....three times a week..... sometimes four....it depends....." *Logan couldn't bring himself to look at her while he spoke. Instead he rolled the bottle of asprin around in his hand and watched that*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
Mei didn't at all look sorry for the bottle incident, neither did it occur to her about taking aspirin after alcohol. She knew as soon as he looked down that he was guilty of worse and she sighed. This time it was clear she was disappointed not mad.
"Why? Why do you do it to yourself?...I...I don't want to lose another friend because of his own stupidity. I know i wasn't around as much as i should have been but do you know when i first saw you in that staff room i was so happy you were ok, friends back together again and all that..."
Despite the seriousness of the situation Mei still managed to keep her underlying feisty nature, she did after all manage to fit in calling him stupid.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 12:23 AM (GMT)
*Logan looked up at her as soon as she mentioned loosing another friend. That had hurt.* "I was happy to see you too...I always felt so bad about loosing touch with you after..well....you know. Tommy...." *Logan looked away from her again* "You're better at dealing with things than I am." *He muttered, setting the bottle back down on the counter. His headache started abating....but as it did he felt a pang of worry in his stomach as he thought of mixing asprin and alcohol.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
She took a step forward as if she wanted to hug him but she paused and rocked back on her heels instead. The tension was clearly sense-able. It was her turn to looked at her feet now;
"I know loosing Tommy was hard on you, but do you really think he'd want any of us to be like this? You know, none of the others have spoken since then. I had to start all over again, you know what my family's like. You lot were all i had and suddenly it was all gone, the only way i coped was by knowing that Tommy wouldn't want this...Would he? You did know him best after all..."
That much was true, Mei knew how had Tommy's death had hit Logan, she had supported him the best she could but it wasn't long before they all had to split ways. Logan had always been her best friend but Tommy had been his.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
"No....he wouldn't have wanted this." *He said quietly. Logan was strting to feel really tired. He had to fight to keep his eyes open. He finally turned to look at Mei and cracked a small sad grin* "I haven't been near a quidditch pitch since then....have you?" *Logan was loosing his silent battle with exaustion. He leaned against the counter of her kitchen for support, trying to make it look causal.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
She shook her head in admittance, she'd never seen a quidditch pitch since that day until she returned to hogwarts. There wasn't much need for quidditch at a creature reserve. She almost smiled at his grin till she noticed his eye lids dropping, after that the leaning seemed rather fake. At this point she did actually move forward and to his side.
"Logan? Are you okay?" Her voice was quick although still laced with bright tones...
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 12:50 AM (GMT)
"Yeah, I'm fine....just.....tired, that's all." *He shivered once but then stopped himself.* "I'm gonna go sit down...." *He mumbled, shufling oer to her couch. To him, it felt like it took forever to move through the small flat. Once he got to the couch he collapsed into it, sinking own into the pillows and closing his eyes. He yawned once and then forced his eyes open again, which were slightly glazed over.* "Come over here so we can talk..."
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
She watched him carefully, unwilling to admit anything could be wrong but worried all the same. She nodded her head once a false small smile on her lips as she walked over to the couch. She pulled the blanket up over him, and now she truly was reminded of the old days. She grabbed a couple of cushions from the chair and leaned them on the floor so her back was lent on the back of the couch. She was sat near Logan's head and could see his face in the side of her vision.
"Sure what would you like to talk about... Just let me know if you feel worse please?" She hand't noticed the look in his eyes, she may have observed creatures for a living but she wasn't a Medi Witch.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
*Logan rested his head down near hers, closing his eyes.* "What'd you mean if I feel worse? I feel fine." *He murmered. Logan tried to open his eyes again and couldn't. He was jsut too tired* "Mei, if you're tired, you can go to bed. I wouldn't be upset..." *He could hardly bring himself to talk about the murmer that he was.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 01:03 AM (GMT)
She sighed and smiled a little attempting to take his words at face value. She had heard that line before, everyone used it when the wanted to go to sleep when they are at someones elses house. However his volume alarmed her a little, could she really put it down to the alcohol?
"I'll be ok here for a while though you can sleep if you like, and you know what i mean Logan...Just tell me things yeah?" She shifted a little to slip her dressing gown off, she turned it over and used it much like a blanket before resting her head back near to Logan's now she was fully leaning onto the couch.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
"Yeah.....okay...." *He fell silent for a moment, his breath slowing. He murmered something inauditable to her before slipping off to sleep. A very deep sleep. The last thought that he had before he went under was that he wished that he had told her about the pills and alchol and that he hoped she would figure it out on her own.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
OOC: i Have Kiley/Logan's permission for the no response. ^.^
IC:
Mei figured she had hardly been listing when she hadn't heard what Logan was saying, after all when was Logan ever quiet? She rolled her eyes at herself and sat up turning her body slightly so she could see him better.
"What did you say Logan?" Since she didn't get any response she calmly shook his shoulder. "Logan?" She began to feel herself panicking now, it was stupid really i mean he was only asleep wasn't he? Memories flooded through her mind as she began to breath faster.
"Logan Corso get up now!"
She shook him again only this time it was a lot more harsh and quiet obviously she was panicking. She had this niggling feeling in her gut that she should know what was wrong. Her eyes started to blur and she angrily blinked away tears, Logan WOULD be fine. She jumped up form her dealt and ran into the kitchen she began looking around for anything to help her when she knocked the aspirin bottle to the floor and it dawned on her. He'd taken aspirin after alcohol, it wasn't fatal be it wasn't good.
She grabbed the largest pint glass she owned and filled it with freezing cold water. She ran quickly back to the living room and without even flinching she threw it over her couch and Logan's still form.
"Sorry Logan..."
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
*Logan gasped and sat straight up. His eyes shot open and he swore loudly, a natural reaction to the freezing water.* "Jesus Mei....." *He stood, already shivering again.* "What the hell was that for? Couldn't just wake me up like a normal person would...." *He dropped the blanket and pulled off the shirt, both of which were drenched. He grabbed another blanket and stood staring at her, still shivering.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 01:39 AM (GMT)
Mei, rather suprsingly it must seem, smiled with relief when he woke up and she placed a hand over her now calming heart whilst placing the glass down with the other. She looked rather upset actually and the smile looked strangely out of place.
"You stupid idiot, you could have died. You wouldn't get up. You nearly had me in tears. You stupid, stupid idiot." Her sentences were fragmented and she was quite tempted to start smacking him but rested just, and it was quiet obvious now the situation had started her a lot. She was that panicking from before she didn't even manage to make some stupid comment about the water, or a derogatory comment about his lack of shirt; well her two best friends had been boys...
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
"Oh....the asprin.....right....." *He muttered under his breath* "Sorry Mei......I'm really ruining your night it seems...." *He tried to smile, ut his teeth were chattering from the water. However, he was wide awake now, which was good...but he was wet and freezing, which wasn't. And now Mei knew that he had known about the asprin....which was really really not good.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
Mei's eyes went from shocked to annoyed in 0.3 seconds. As soon as he said 'Aspirin' she knew she was going to beat the living day lights out of him. She was positively glowering as she stepped forward both hands at her side.
"You knew. You sodding knew! You didn't even tell me, you could have died. Do you understand what you're doing to yourself? You are going to die if you go on like this, And you're going to drag everyone that cares along with you! And what the hell for? Tyler's few drinks humm? Lack of care maybe? Think Logan!"
She scowled and point blank refused right now to offer him any warmth for his shivering. Angry tears were now brimming in her eyes, being feisty had a few major disadvantages one of them was being very prone to mood swings. She curled her hands into a ball and shoot them forward aiming to beat on his chest in a resigned and angry manor.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 02:00 AM (GMT)
*Logan let her beat on his chest for a few moments....she was so tiny it didn't do much.* "Mei, look, I'm fine.....I didn't realize it untill after I'd taken them..." *He wrapped his arms around her, hoping she would calm down and let him comfort her.* "I'm sorry for scaring you like I did...I really didn't mean to...."
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 02:06 AM (GMT)
She scowled when he just stood there not even effected by her hitting him. Damn her height, damn her parents and damn their genes. She finally calmed but only because she couldn't move when he put his arms round her and she muttered something that sounded like 'You're still a stupid arse.' She breathed in extra deep breaths not seeming to notice that not only had he stopped her rant he was getting her wet through too.
"I hate you sometimes, you were my best friend; are my best friend and you keep doing daft things. I swear if you'd died i would have dragged you back to the living and made you stay here."
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
"But I didn't die....I'm going to be fine. I am fine." *He let go of her and took a step back* "Do you have any tea or anything? Coffe? So I can stay awake?" *Although he would never admit it to her, the main reason that he felt guilty was because she had said he was his best friend.....and he had scared her.* "You know Mei..." *He paused, trying to think of the right way to say what he wanted to* "You could do a lot better than me for your best friend....."
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 02:23 AM (GMT)
She nodded her head numbly at first when he said he didn't die but slowly she seemed to get a little bit more back to normal.
"Oh please I've heard that sentence many times before though not always from you and in a slightly different context" Which was true it seemed to be a favorite 'break up' line lately.
"We've been friends for what oh 16 years? Fair enough i spent 10 in the middle of Europe but still i'm stuck with you" She smiled mildly still a little out of it and hence her none stop chatter, she picked up the glass and headed to the kitchen to looked for tea or coffee. She only drunk lemon tea herself.
"In the closet where the blankets are there's some of my, er ex's stuff; there should be a shirt in there if you want one. And i only have lemon tea." She seemed to be making small talk as if she was trying to completely forget the previous events, he had scared her out her mind.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
"Lemon tea's perfect." *He lied, making his way to the closet. In reality, he hated lemon tea, but that didn't matter. He had to stay awake. He got to the closet and, there on the top shelf were a few shirts and some pants. He grabbed a brown shirt and some sweatpants and quickly pulled them on. As a second thought he grabbed a hoodie as well and pulled that on. Logan started walking back to the kitchen* "My clothes are better than your ex's." *He teased* "You have bad taste......I think I'll hook you up with someone sometime." *He grinned and nodded, sitting down into a chair while she made tea.*
Mei Feng - December 6, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
She continued to make tea in the muggle way, she was after all half blood. Finally when the kettle boiled she poured the water into two mugs and added he lemon tea and loads of sugar. Mei suppose sugar would keep you awake and she needed it for her shock and him for the energy.
"I've always had bad taste, but he was blonde."
Mei had always had a weak spot for blondes ever since 3rd year. She would always indirectly blame Logan and Tommy for it too. She was sure they hexed her.
"Besides I'm sure you're taste was worse than mine." She teased back happy for some sense of normality, she supposed she had over reacted a little but she had been over sensitive to such things since the accident. She passed him a large mug and sat down into her own chair blowing on the to warm tea whilst clasping the mug in her hands.
Logan Corso - December 6, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
*Logan took the mug from her and held it in both hand. He rested his elbows on the table and brought the mug to his lips. It tasted horrible...but he pressed on. He was willing to suffer death by lemon tea after what he'd put her through.* "I have much better taste than you, thank-you-very-much. And next time we both have a free night we're going out and I'm going to hook you up with someone. It will be excellent." *He took another sip and set it down on the counter* "I don't understand you and blondes....." *He muttered, grinning. He and Tommy had always teezed her about it in school.*
Mei Feng - December 7, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
Mei took a sip of the lemon tea and was glad she'd added the sugar. As much as she liked the stuff she found it sometimes tasted bitter. She was still a little weary of Logan's health and now and again she'd glance at him out of the corner of her eye before staring back into her cup.
"I don't need any help thank you." Although a rather short comment it was more playful than snappy and if you looked closely you could see the small wink she shot at Logan.
"And Blondes are cute, dumb but cute." She giggled her bright giggle now and it seemed the tension was abating. Mei switched her gaze to her hands which she noticed seemed red and hurt a little. She visibly stared directly at Logan now, a mixture of mirth and playful annoyance in her eyes.
"Jerk; why are you built like a rock?"
Logan Corso - December 10, 2007 11:44 PM (GMT)
*Logan looked at her, confused for a moment about her responce. Then he looked at her handds and it occured to him that, although it hadn't hurt him, it had probably hurt her* "Well, it's your own fault." *He muttered half heartedly, feeling bad that her hands would probably be bruised* "You should put ice on that." *He stood to go over to the freezer but had to pause, his head spinning slightly. He regained his ballence and procedded to the freezer. Logan pulled out some ice and slid it down the counter to her* "Hey, you should have known better."
Mei Feng - December 11, 2007 08:10 PM (GMT)
She noticed his slight pause when he stood up and a dark frown became set upon her features. However she didn't have much chance to say anything because a bag of Ice had just slid its way over to her. She looked at the ice and then at Logan. Almost as if she was contemplating something. She pushed the stumble from her mind slightly and attempted to grin.
"Well as far as i recall you always used to be built like a marshmallow, either that or I've grown weaker..." She grabbed an ice cube and threw it expertly in the direction of Logan. With the aim and style of throw it was obvious she had at some point in time been a chaser, though it had been a very very long time ago...
She didn't wait to see if the ice cube hit because at this point she had picked up the bag once more and headed over to the freezer herself to return the bag after setting her cup down on the counter.
"My hand's will be fine Logan, just let me know if your not. Fine that is..." Ahh there it was; that irritating underlining worry she had yet to qualm...
Logan Corso - December 11, 2007 09:47 PM (GMT)
*The ice cube glanced of his shoulder, but he didn't respond, just bent and picked it up. He tossed it over to the sink, watching her as she put the ice back in the freezer* "What do you mean?" *He asked, agitated that she wouldn't just put the ice on her hand. Never mind the fact that he wouldn't have done it either, that wasn't the point.* "Will you just put ice on your hand so it doesn't swell?" *He reached in the freezer, pulled out the ice, set it on the counter, and closed the freezer door again, this time much firmer than he had before.*
Mei Feng - December 11, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
She winced lightly as the door slammed shut before her eyes narrowed dangerously and she glared up at Logan.
"Hey, leave the furniture out of this." Although it wasn't to obvious to her at least it was clear she was avoiding his question about what she meant. Mei had always had the habit of becoming a little over worried about people. Sure she had no problems expressing it the first time but when she continued to worry she was sure people would deem her stupid.
She placed her hands on the ice momentarily until she could feel the cold tingling of the limbs. She quickly removed the hands then and flexed her nimble fingers to show that they were fine.
"See fine; really Logan i was never a delicate girl was i? After all i hung around with you and i work with dangerous animals, daily." Her eyes had softened by this point and a small attempt at a grin was set on her features, though her eyes showed nothing but prolonged worry about the friend stood across from her, his every action could make her worry sometimes.
Logan Corso - December 11, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
*Logan's eyes narrowed as well as he watched her, scrutinizing her every movement to watch for something that was off. He sighed and sat back down, a little too heavily, as if he had fallen or misjudged the distance from there to the chair.* "You're stupid." *He muttered, taking another drink.* "When your hands are like quaffles and you can't move them so they get eaten by your animals and they get infected and you have heart trouble and you get stuck in the hospital wing and you die but not totally...." *He was rambling, another byproduct of the drugs and drink. He took a deep breath and took a drink, his eyes alert but slightly glazed at once.*
Mei Feng - December 11, 2007 10:36 PM (GMT)
She watched him carefully too, though her eyes remained averted to his own. Although it seemed strange to admit she wanted to be figured out, she had to admit it hurt that Logan had figured her out. After all she hadn't changed that much had she? Had they really grown that far apart?
She hoisted herself onto the counter, knocking the ice to the side in the process. With a small strangled sigh she picked the ice up and wrapped it in a tea towel before placing it on her dressing gown clad lap and placing her hands between her legs and the ice. She didn't speak once during the entire process and her eyes were still staring downwards. Upon closer inspection remnants of the previous tears were beginning to return to her eyes as she mused on thoughts and Logans apparent concern for her health.
She paused and took a deep breath before talking in a tone all to dull for her usual mood swinging self.
"I'll take care of myself, if you do the same respectively..."
Logan Corso - December 11, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
"Hey.....hey....hey....." *Logan tilted his head to the side and brought it down to the table and looked over at her. He was starting to get a little loopy, but through it he coud still see that she was crying.* "Meeeiii......" *he whined, his head clunking on the counter, his big brown eyes almost puppy-dog like.* "Are you okay?" *He laughed a little* "That rhymed."
Mei Feng - December 11, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Still averting her eyes she sniffled and blinked the few tears away. Logan always had, had a knack for hitting her weak spots back at school. He obviously hadn't lost that skill. When she finally raised her blurry eyes to meet his she realised his glazed look and immediately jumped down from the counter, tossing the ice aside, forgotten in her renewed concern.
"I swear you do this on purpose, you always knew just the right buttons to press...arse" Her voice was no longer dull but it was far from its bright tones as she rushed over towards Logan and aimed to place and cold hand, from the ice, on his head.
"Well that's not going to work is it...Are you felling okay you look, well, you look drugged actually..." Trusty old Mei still blunt and insulting in times of need...
