Ok, this topic is just to discuss the importance of having British Actors and Directors working on the Potter films. On one hand we can herald the Harry Potter films as staying true to Rowling and her very authentic Scottish and English viewpoint in the books. On another hand we can say we are shielding out some real talent in other English speaking countries.

I think that it is necessary to have British actors cast in speaking parts, for authenticity purposes, mainly. Also because Britain needs really good movies to claim as their own. Not like they don't have any, America is just more well known. I don't get why they can't cast people from other countries as extras, particularly if they can pull of a good English/Scottish/Irish/Welsh (what does that sound like anyway?) accent. They're destroying the dreams of young talented people (*coughMEcough*) who want to be a part of this wonderful series. I see no harm in casting non-Brits as extras.

I don't really think that they are cheating people because they are only casting British kids. I mean I am all open for casting Americans in Harry Potter, but I think it was a good choice on the directors part. Because it does keep to the authenticity. There are plenty of chances for American, Spanish, Mexican, Asian, anyone to play a role in a movie if they put them selfs out there.Personally, I think it would be wrong to sat that they need to cast people from other countries. Because it's really about authenticity. I am sure there are movies where they couldn't cast British people in roles that weren't suited for them. Because Typecasting happens... I hate it, but it's kind of just reality.

But I do agree with Mel saying that it wouldn't hurt to cast Extras of other nationalities. But I think that it was something they crew of Harry Potter debated a lot.
