Title: Quest for knowledge
Description: Zeke
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
Ana wandered into the Library hoping to find something that wouldn't bore her to death. She walked up and down the aisles before carefully pulling a book from the shelf. It's binding was slightly torn, but it didn't matter - it was a book nonetheless.
She found an empty table and sat down to read.

Zeke walked lazily towards the library. He was tired and craved the silence that only the library seemed to offer. Besides, he wanted to take out a book called 'Killing Time' which a classmate had recommended at lunch. He had started reading it before but never had the chance to finish it.
Narrowing his eyes slightly to make out the titles on the back of the books he roamed around the shelves until he located the place where 'Killing TIme' was located. Or, where it was supposed to be, however. There was a clear space where the book used to be. Zeke was annoyed. He didn't feel like reading anything else. Looking around he spotted a girl sitting by a table nearby. She was reading a book, and as Zeke looked closer he realised that this girl was in fact reading the book for which he was looking.
He walked over, slowly, stopping when he was standing close to the girl.
"You're reading my book" he said in a way that suggested she had commited a terrible crime.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 01:18 PM (GMT)
Ana was slightly startled at the voice beside her. Her brown curls flew to rest on her shoulders as she turned to look at the boy.
"Who says this is your book? It was on the shelf, so it's fair game. If you want to read it, you can wait until i'm done."
Once she said it, Ana felt bad being so rude to someone she had just met, as was slightly embarrassed.
"Well, um, or maybe we can share it or something?"
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 01:25 PM (GMT)
Zeke was suprised by the girl's harsh answer. She didn't strike him as being the kind of girl who'd reply like that.
When she suggested they shared the book, however, he regained his usual laid-back attitude.
WIth a mocking voice he imitated her
"Well, um, or maybe you could just give it to me?"
He knew he was being completely unfair, but he was in a bad mood and couldn't help taking it out on someone else.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 01:31 PM (GMT)
Ana felt like the day couldn't get any worse. Her parents made her switch schools halfway through the year and she was already getting off on the wrong foot at her new school.
"Yeah, you can have it," she said, giving in. She was in a library for crying out loud. She was sure she could find something else to read.
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 01:37 PM (GMT)
For some reason, Zeke had expected for the girl to object. When she didn't, he felt kind of disappointed. He turned around and started to walk away, then stopped.
Holding the book in his hands he realised he really had no right to be that unfair. This girl was in his house, in his year even, and there was no reason in being so impolite.
He turned around.
"Hey, thanks." he said, obviously not finding this too easy.
Hesitating for a second, he took a few steps towards the girl and offered his hand.
"I'm Ezekiel. Zeke." he said.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
Ana was unsure of him because he seemed kind of mean, but it was like he didn't want to be. She was all about getting to know people before judging them, so she returned the handshake.
"I'm Anabelle, but most people call me Ana. Whichever you prefer."
She sat for a moment, unsure of what to say, and then spoke.
"Sorry about being so rude to you earlier. I guess I'm just a little testy today."
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 01:50 PM (GMT)
Zeke sat down, exhaling.
"Yeah, well, that makes two of us" he said, shrugging. This was as close as he'd get to an actual apology.
"Anabelle" he said, tasting the word.
"Sounds french.. is it?"
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 01:54 PM (GMT)
She smiled, thinking of her parents who had thought of the name long before she was born.
"Well, it's technically Latin, but French is one of the Romance Languages, so I guess you could say it's French. It means, 'Easy to Love'. And your name? Where does it come from?"
Ana relaxed a little, happy she was finally able to talk to someone.
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 02:02 PM (GMT)
Zeke shrugged slightly.
"I am not too sure actually. I think it came from somewhere in my mother's family.. I just think it's a bit too.. serious. I prefer Zeke."
He said, quite enjoying the calm conversation. He considered telling her how he liked the resemblance between 'Zeke' and the word 'seek', but decided not to. He was yet to place the girl, and figure out exactly what she was like.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 02:09 PM (GMT)
Ana glanced down at her hands and then looked back up at Zeke.
"I kind of like your name. It's different. In a good way, of course. My parents wanted to name me something that not every other girl would have."
The silence came again and Ana desperately wanted to fill it.
"So, what do you like to do?"
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 02:15 PM (GMT)
As always, Zeke had no clue of how to take the compliment. Even though it was just about something like his name, he had no idea of how to handle it.
He found the company of Anabelle rather pleasant, but the fact that neither of them seemed to be great small-talkers bothered him.
He admired her for trying to break the awkward silence, and regretfully wasn't able to come up with a proper answer to her question.
"Um.. reading and stuff" he said, hating himself for not keeping the conversation going.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 02:21 PM (GMT)
Ana smiled, feeling kind of stupid for asking an obvious question.
"Yeah, I like to read, too. Mostly historic stuff or mystery novels."
The silence enveloped her once again. She felt really awkward and looked like he did too.
"I'm sorry, I guess I'm not a very interesting person," she said smiling.
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 02:25 PM (GMT)
Zeke finally pulled himself together.
"No.. No, don't worry - that's not it. I'm just incredibly tired. You seem nice. And really, I normally make better conversation than this" he said, the last part not nescessarily entirely true.
"I guess my brain's just taking a day off, you know?" he said, hoping his faint attempt of being funny might loosen the atmosphere a bit.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
Ana smiled at him and laughed softly.
"Yeah, me too. I stayed up way too late last night. I feel like I could sleep another eight hours." Ana yawned as if it was on cue and then felt really stupid.
"Oh well, I can sleep when I'm dead, right? So have you gone to Hogwarts for all of your schooling?"
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
Zeke liked the turn the conversation had taken.
"Yeah, you never get enough sleep in a place like this" he said.
"Yeah, I have.. " he said as an answer to her question.
"You joined rather recently am i right?" he said, desperately hoping he was. If she'd been there as long as he had that would be quite offensing.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, my parents thought it was time for a change. I used to go to the American school. Hogwarts seems nice. I suppose it won't be that bad once I get used to it."
Ana saw this as an opportunity to learn as much as she could about her new home.
"So what's cool to do around here?"
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
Zeke wasn't exactly used to being consulted with what was 'cool'. He thought for a moment.
"I don't know, actually. I mean, I like to just roam around and see what happens but there's tons of activities to do around here too." he said, hoping she wouldn't ask him to name any. He always found it hard to put his finger on exactly what he did with his spare time.
Anabelle Anderson - May 4, 2008 02:56 PM (GMT)
Ana felt like she had made Zeke uncomfortable, so she decided to leave the subject.
"Yeah, I'm sure I'll find something to do around here. I mean, it's a big school, lots of places to go." She smiled again, feeling like she was grasping for something interesting to say.
"Hopefully I don't get piled with too much homework so I can have some time to fool around."
OOC* I have to get going, but go ahead and post, I will be on again a little later. Thanks for the fun rpg!*
Ezekiel Torch - May 4, 2008 03:08 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, don't count on it - the professors can be tough. But hey - you're a Raven - you'll manage" he said cheerfully.
Unable to hold back a yawn Zeke realised he ought to go take a nap.
"Listen, I'm gonna go" he said, standing up.
"But thanks for the chat.. I'll see you around, Ana?" he said, and placed the book that had made them meet in the first place on the table.
"Bring it to the commons, will you? Then I guess we'll share it after all" he said, turned around, and walked out of there with his usual bouncy steps.
Anabelle Anderson - May 5, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
Ana smiled at Zeke as he left. For having such an odd meeting, it seemed to have a peculiar ending.
Ana picked up the book and returned to the page she was reading before Zeke requested his book back.
She sat and read for nearly an hour and then decided to explore the school a little and take a walk.
