The rules have been revised with some slight tweaks. I advise you to give them a quick read over.
Handbook of Rules
General Rules
1) Do not spam. I certainly don't want to read unnecessary text, emoticons, etc. The rest of the Lumos community probably doesn't want to either. Also, do not include pictures. Language is such a beautiful thing, and I am confident in the writing ability of the community.
2) No pornography. We have no desire to look at, or read such things. If you are looking for someplace to enact your fantasies, Lumos is not that place.
3)Don't write in chatspeak. Nobody wants to know that your character loled. I'm certain that you can think of a better description than that anyways.
4)Don't hate on any real person. Flaming, bashing, or upsetting another member of Lumos is not okay. We were put on this earth to build one another up, not take each other down. It is okay for a character to be mean, but not a member.
5)If Jo didn't say it, neither can you. There is no need for unnecessary swear words. That being said, the occasional swear with censored stars is okay (example s**t)
6)Spells must originate from the books. Not everyone in the Harry Potter books invented a spell, so neither can we. If you have an idea, PM one of your admins.
Registration
1)I don't enjoy trying to remember who cornflake32 is, so, in order to be sorted, your character must have a first name AND a last name in your user name.
2)Your character has existed for the duration of their life. This one sounds a bit silly, but unless your character is a 7th year, (s)he did not go to school with Harry Potter, nor did (s)he know him. Also, your character has gone to Hogwarts for as long as they have been able to. In other words, your character was not home schooled, then transfered.
3)At this time, Cannon characters are not available. This includes teachers and relatives of cannon characters. This means that you can't have Harry Potter's third cousin Greta Potter as your character.
4)As Jo has shown us, all students that go to Hogwarts, live in the UK or Ireland. Your character MUST be from one of these places. You can find a list of these cities and towns here.
5)You MUST apply for special powers. In order for you to get a special power, you have to be a contributing member of the site. This means that you have advertised, made suggestions, etc. Don't whine about not getting a power. Everyone can't be an animagi.
Role Playing (Finally!)
1)To begin, please read some topics to get the general feel of what a good post is.
2)In order to make things fun for everyone, and to keep everyone equal, characters must be played realistically. Every person has flaws, weaknesses, and vices, so should your character. Realistically, your character wouldn't know how to cast every spell perfectly, or be able to block or avoid every curse sent their way. Invincible characters are boring and are subject to banning.
3)Making someone else's character do something is not allowed. It is called godding. Don't ruin other people's experiences by forcing things upon them.
4)As we have gone over above, scenes of a sexual nature are not allowed on general boards. Sometimes, people can get their feelings hurt for things that happened in character, in real life. As a comprimise, Room 22 exists as a place to role play these plots. Request password from an admin and use with disgression.
5)Students are not more powerful than adults. This goes back to the realistic thing. An adult is going to have much more experience in duels than a first year.
6)Teacher characters must be active. What would happen if your teachers didn't show up for work on a regular basis? They would get fired which is what could happen to your character.
7)Death is not the only answer. If you are sick of playing with a character and want to axe him or her, you must discuss it with an admin.
