Title: Like mother, like daughter...
Description: Open!
Ariel Radcliff - May 16, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
There was something about the library that Ariel never really liked. As far as she was concerned there was a negative connotation that went with every library… quiet, studious, and full of brains too smart for their own good. Not to mention the whispering! If there was something that drove Ariel insane it was not being able to talk and having to whisper instead. When you think about it they were really the same thing, a means to communicate; the same thing and yet one was allowed and the other was not. Complete rubbish if you asked her – not that anyone did, mind you. And that was probably why whispering was allowed but not talking. Ariel was convinced that if you could talk and gossip and laugh with your friends in the library a lot more people would go. And didn’t the professors want more students in the library?
Preoccupied with these rather busy thoughts Ariel pushed through the large doors that lead to the library. Considering that it was a lovely day outside it was pretty empty, which was exactly what Ariel needed. She strode through the aisles to claim a table at the very back which gave her a full view of the doorway and whoever else might enter. Ariel sat with a sigh and dumped her bag on the table before her. Fishing around her multitude of notes, quills, and books she dug out the dreaded letter she had received just that morning. She frowned as she fiddled with the edges, taking time to read the front that was addressed to her. It was from her mother – only one person had that ridiculous handwriting with all its swirls and flourishes. Biting her lip anxiously Ariel tore open the letter and settled down to read.
Dearest Daugheter,
I hope that you have been doing well at school. I haven’t heard any more complaints from your head of house… which is encouraging. Sorry that I haven’t been in touch since Christmas, but I’ve been busy with work. Your grandmother has decided that you may stay with her this summer because I’ve been offered a chance to tour Italy all summer. We are looking forward to your break from school and I can’t wait for you to meet someone special!
Love,
Mum
Ariel took time to read between the lines of what her mother wasn’t saying which summed up to three things. 1) her mother hadn’t been in touch because she’d been too busy with another boyfriend 2) he was taking her to Italy 3) he had proposed. Rolling her eyes, Ariel dug for a fresh piece of paper in response to her mother. Another fiancé wasn’t anything new to her, they came by the dozen as far as she was concerned and he probably wouldn’t last any longer than the others. She grinned as she wrote back her rather short response.
Mother – don’t bother picking me up. I know where grandmum lives, the same house she’s lived in every other time you dumped be on her doorstep for a wizard with big blue eyes. I hope he’s not Italian… you know where to find me when he dumps you.
Harsh is the only work Ariel would use to describe her relationship with her mother. Her mum would probably get just as upset with this letter as she had with the others. Then she would claim that this wizard was different… the one! And then she would ground Ariel for her rude letter. Ariel couldn’t help but laugh softly to herself. If there was one person who never learned her lessons well it would be her mother… Ariel had to get it from someone.
OOC: Please feel free to join in! I'm just looking for someone to rp with!

Ahh, the library. A place full of bookworms and study nerds and all those in between. And then those, such as herself, that just enjoyed a good book while sprawled out under a tree, catching some rays of sunlight.
April entered the library, whistling to herself, and headed towards the towers of books that awaited her search for the perfect novel. The librarian, who was dusting off shelves (who does that?), gave her a sharp look and shushed her into silence. April mocked her stupidly when her back was turned, and headed into the rows of shelves.
She was all the way to the back when she noticed a girl at the furthest table for the entrance. It seemed like a place April herself would hide, or carefully observe people. April loved to watch people. They did the funniest things imaginable. Humans were very interesting people, and being one of them, no one could ever grasp the full scope of such.
April wandered over to the girl's table with a selected book, and slammed it down onto the wood. The table shook. She smiled at the girl sheepishly, and sat down.
"I'm April." She loved being straightforward- the looks people got on thier faces! "What are you up to?"
April glanced down at the aprchment on the table in front of the girl. She had been writing it. It seemed to be some sort of letter, but April wasn't one to be overly nosy. She looked away and noticed that the girl didn't seem to happy, whethe rit be because of her appearance, or the letter, she didn't know.

SLAM!
Ariel jumped and couldn’t help but let out a small squeak of surprise as a rather large book was slammed onto her table. The book was shortly followed by a girl who sat down with a friendly smile on her face.
"I'm April."
April… April.. Ariel thought trying to place the name. Aha! Fifth year, Slytherin, nice hair, blue eyes – pretty enough for Ariel to be jealous, but not enough to hate. Outside of the polite hello Ariel had never really talked to the girl, yet here she was at Ariel’s table the perfect picture of a library student with book in hand.
“Hello,” she replied, thinking it couldn't hurt to be nice, “I’m Ariel.”
“What are you up to?”
“Not school work, that’s for certain,” Ariel answered with a smile. “Actually, I’m writing to my mum to remind her that she’s not the maternal type in case she’s forgotten.”
Bluntness can be considered untactful, but one had to admit there was a certain finesse to it. As some would say ‘Honesty if the Best Policy’. The thought made her want to laugh and she had to bite her lip to keep from making a noise, least April think she was laughing at her.
April was looking away from her now as if uncertain of her acceptance. Ariel supposed that she might be intimidating to the lower classes. She had never made it a point to care about anyone but herself. The fifth year seemed interesting enough and she was in Ariel’s very own house. Besides... who knew what you could learn from a new acquaintance!
“Sooo,” Ariel began, “enough about me. You’re a fifth year, right? What brings you to the library on such a nice day?”
April Teagan - May 16, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
"Fifth year, yes." She was disracted for a moment by the girl's bluntness. She enjoyed bluntness. It was humorous at times. April thought she would get along well with Ariel.
"I was looking for a book," she stated simply, picking up the book and showing it to her. Othello. Boring, maybe, but deeply enriching. "As you can see, I found one. I was going to read outside, maybe, but I spotted you."
Ariel seemed nice enough, for a Slytherin. She didn't like the girl's peircing look though, as if she judged her. April wasn't sure if she was deemed good enough or not, and that worried her.

OOC- This said open so I'll join in. If you want me to leave just ell me and Nana will "walk out"
IC-
Nana walked quietly into the seemingly empty library. She was looking for a book she could read that night. As she walked to the novel section she noticed 2 people talking at one of the tables. Nana accidently heard the girls say,
"I was going to read outside, maybe, but I spotted you." It didn't seem to intesting from there so Nana didn't think about it.
Ariel Radcliff - May 19, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
OOC: Nana you are more than welcome. Enjoy this next post and I hope your character doesn't get hurt too bad, if at all!
IC:
The girl seemed to be squirming under Ariel’s gaze and she couldn’t help smirking a bit. She enjoyed making people uncomfortable at times… it could be amusing. Now Ariel, play nice. she admonished herself.
”Fifth year, yes,” April answered, interrupting her thoughts. "I was looking for a book,” Ariel barely stopped herself from rolling her eyes. Of course she would be looking for a book… in a library! "As you can see, I found one. I was going to read outside, maybe, but I spotted you."
Ariel bit her lip in thought. Her only agenda for the day had been to reply to her mother’s letter. For lack of anything else to do why not read a book? She almost laughed at the thought. Ariel Louis Radcliff read a book!?!? Then again, it was worth a try and might be relaxing at that.
“Do you mind if I join you?” She asked, digging in her bag for her wand. “I just have to drop this off at the owlery.” She gestured towards her letter as she brought out her wand. Book… book… book.. Ariel thought, pursing her lips and tapping them with the tip of her wand. Weren’t all books basically the same… long, boring, and a complete waste of time? Shrugging she gave her wand a twirl and said “Accio book!” without a second thought. Within seconds all the books from the nearby shelves flew towards her and started hitting her on the head in their urgency to obey the spell that had just been placed on them. “Blast!” Ariel yelled, covering her head with her arms.
April Teagan - May 21, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
April watched as Ariel created a mountain of books on top of her. Several books whizzed past her hears and over her head, making thier way to Ariel's arms. Within seconds, Ariel had been struck several times.
April fell on the ground laughing. It was impolite; they were in a library, of course, but it was too funny. Ariel looked grumpy.
"Maybe you should have been more specific... there's thousands of books in here, you know," she stated, matter-of-factly, and rolled her eyes back at Ariel. It had been a pretty funny sight. "And you don't have to read if you don't want to," she finished.
Still laughing, she helped to fly the books back to thier shelves. Teh librarian had appeared and was giving Ariel a very dity and scathing look, coming over to grab books angrily and shoving them onto the shelves, while dusting them. April backed away from the precious volumes, afraid to touch them in her prescence.
Nana Dirks'n - May 22, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
Nana ducked as all the books off the shelves behind her flew to Ariel. She almost screamed but a book stopped her. Then several large books flew towards her. Nana tried to duck out of the way but the books took her along with them and flew to Ariel. Nana hit the ground with a loud thumo, she felt her eyes water without her agreeement. She rubbed her head as she tried to sit up again.
OOC- Nana's used to injuries don't worry
Ariel Radcliff - May 29, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
Pain was the first comprehensive thing that Ariel could think of once all the books in the library stopped attacking her. Sitting up, she threw a book off of her in frustration and wiped off her now dusty sleeves. Really… didn’t the librarian do anything in the library? The least she could do is dust off the books!
The sound of laughter immediately caught Ariel’s attention as she looked down on the fifth year before her. "Maybe you should have been more specific... there's thousands of books in here, you know," April told her.
“Perhaps,” Ariel muttered, lips twitching as she fought back her own laughter.
A stack of books shifted nearby to reveal another student sitting up and rubbing her head. Ariel could hardly contain herself as she eventually gave into her laughter. It was probably the combination of shock, April laughing, and the stunned looking Hufflepuff before her that finally made her give in.
Even the presence of the librarian couldn’t stop Ariel’s convulsive laughing. “Sorry,” she choked out to the other girl between gasps of breath.
Eventually Ariel was able to control her laughter and she held out a hand to help the Hufflepuff up. “I’m Ariel,” she replied, “Are you sure you’re okay? I don’t recall asking for anything but books. How did you show up?”
Another giggle beyond her control escaped as she looked over the girl towards April. “Maybe reading isn’t going to be such a good idea for me!”
April Teagan - May 29, 2008 06:41 PM (GMT)
April laughed, and also helped Nana back up. Ariel had made quite a mess, which wasn't really a good thing in the library. She was surprised they hadn't been kicked out. The librarian was still attempted to brush off books. April tripped out of a pile of them and sat back down in her chair.
"I guess you probably shouldn't read, huh? I think she," she jerked a thumb to the librarian, "might have some sort of panic attack if you attempt to touch another book." April giggled again and brought her book towards her, although she wouldn't be reading with all this distraction.
"Do you need this?" April asked, digging out Ariel's letter out of a pile of dusty books. She set it on top, trying not to read it. She was very nosy.
