Title: Lesson 2
Description: Shrinking Solution

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 26, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
Gen walked into her classroom ready for another day full of fun. She had a big grin on her face, and was wearing a nice set of robes. They were purple. Gen walked up to the board and wrote:

Welcome back class!

Please write the answers down!

Please give me the definition to these words.
-Brew
-Concoction
-Elixer
-Ticture
-Philter
-Draught/Draft

If you do not know the answer to one or a couple, please dont worry about it! Youll learn them eventually!

Gen stepped back and looked at her work. She wiped her hands clean of the chalk dust and sat in her chair reading the paper, awaiting her beloved students.

Solana Lilly - May 26, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
Solana walked into class, early as usual. She gave the Professor a nod, then took a seat in the front of the class, near the middle.

She quickly read what was written on the board, then took out a piece of parchment, quill and ink and began to write in her near cursive writing.

Lesson 2, Potions. Definitions

-Brew- to make or prepare (a potion) by mixing, steeping, soaking, or boiling a solid in water.

-Concoction- to prepare by misxing ingredients; to mix,

-Elixer- a liquid that would supposedly make people able to go on living for ever, or a substance that would turn the cheaper metals into gold.

-Ticture- ???

-Philter- a potion, charm, or drug supposed to cause the person taking it to fall in love, usually with some specific person. (A magic Potion)

-Draught/Draft- a movement of air, especially one which causes discomfort in a room or which helps a fire to burn

Solana looked over what she had written. It seemed right to her, except for that last one...

Rebecca Emery - May 26, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
Walking down the through the dungeons Rebecca smiled to herself. Her next class was potions and she finally for once her life wasn't angry or upset at attending the class. She assumed she had the knew professor or Gen as she knew her from the Spring formal, to thank for this.

Stepping into the class she walked to the middle of the room and took up a random spot. Sitting down she set her things next to her and instantly turned to read the board. As her blue eyes took in the words written she took out parchment, ink and a quill. She wasn't sure on some of these, but as the board said, 'If you do not know the answer to one or a couple, please don’t worry about it! You’ll learn them eventually!'

Smiling to herself at this Rebecca turned to her parchment and began to write down the answers all along waiting for the rest of the class.

April Teagan - May 26, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
April was happy again as she headed into Potions. Second class of the year. She was ready to begin working again, as bookworm-ish as that sounded. April swept into the dungeons and put her belongings on a table, alone. She noticed a few of the students already working, so she glanced at the board.

She read the directions written carefully on the board, and got out her parchment and quill. She looked up at Gen and waved politely.

"Good afternoon Professor," she said sarcastically, winking at Gen, and began to work. She wrote down the question and all the words she needed to define, and filled in the answers. It didn't take too long, this was review for her. She set down her quill and capped her ink when she was done, and re-read her answers.

After this was done, she looked up at the other students and then decided that Gen was waiting for the rest of the class t join them. she was early today, in her haste to be at one of her favorite classes.

Fawne Sugarmoon - May 26, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
Fawne had unfortunately missed the first lessons of potions due to being ill, very ill. She'd apparently been hit with a reflected hex from a duel and as a result had turned white and couldn't stop her nose bleeding; which apparently leaves you light headed. In the end she'd been fixed up by the medi-nurse and sent to rest.

With this in mind she was entirly clueless as what to expect when she entered the classroom. She had glanced at her friends notes from last lesson however so she wasn't completely clueless.

Upon walking in the room the first thing she noticed was people already working and she automatcially thought she'd broke her must not be late rule already. However she then noticed plenty of empty seats around the classroom and assumed people were just eager. whilst her eyes roamed the empty seats she noticed a spare one going next to a girl she was sure was April. Despite the House differences Fawne found April was fast becoming a great friend. Besides Fawne's brother was in the same house so what could it matter?

With this in mind she easily dropped down, gracefully mind, into the seat beside April. Placing the required items on the board onto the desk before redying a quill and parchment for her answers.

"Do you mind if i sit here?" she didn't feel the need for a formal hello. but her question was greeting enough.

Without so much as blink to think Fawne began scribbling answers, in a loopy yet neat scrawl, she seemingly either knew the answers or was having a very good guess at them because shortly after he quill was back down on the desk and her paper was full with definitions.

Robyn Singe - May 26, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Robyn came in, actually on time for once. She sighed and sat in the seat next to April. (OOC: other side..not on top of Fawne)
"Hey." She whispered as she pulled out her parchment and quill. She thought it silly to write with such old things.

Robyn Singe

1.Brew: to boil, steep, soak, or cook
2.Concoction: something concocted
3.Elixir: a substance believed to cure all ills
4.Tincture: a slight infusion, as of some element or quality
5.Philter: a magic potion for any purpose.
6.Draught/Draft: dose of liquid medicine

Robyn had to guess on the second one, she was surprised she didn't remember it. She sighed and put down her quill looking over her work critically.

Craven Blackwood - May 26, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Craven entered the room in a far better mood than he had been in ages. He seemed happier than normal, and he even seem prepared having a bag full of ingredients and books. Apparently he was either taking his 5th year to heart or he really was attempting this whole, lets get rid of a the loner reputation, thing.

As he walked in the room the first spare seat he noticed was next to Rebbecca, the girl he spoke to in CoMC. Now dispite the fact she was hufflepuff he was finding that she was okay to talk to, and he might of slightly been using her as a way to show he had another side to his reputation. Though not in a mean way.

Without even blinking he headed towards the empty set passing his sister and April along the way and nodding a greeting to them politely as they seemingly scribbled answer down.

"April, Fawne..."

he didn't wait for a response before walking the remaining steps to the seat and dropping down in a similar manor to that of the history class, i reeked of slytherin arrogance but why change that now? He dumped his books out and unrolled a piece of parchment before he even turned to speak to Rebbecca. His voice was rough and deep as always as he spoke, though it seemed to have a underling humor in it today.

"Rebbecca, fancy seeing you here again, in class. Maybe i'll get to say more than four words this time."

Without waiting for a response he quickly scribbled down some short half attempted answers, that dispite being written in short hand were actually pretty much correct.

April Teagan - May 26, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
As class progressed, Fawne took the seat next to her on one side, Robyn on the other. Each greeted her politely. Robyn seemed quiet today, and Fawne was ever so polite, of course.

"Sit, sit," she encouraged when Fawne asked to sit beside her. Robyn muttered her greeting shortly after.

"Hello, hello," she said to Robyn. "someone seems very pleased to be here," she said sarcastically.

Craven muttered his greetings to Fawne and herself, and April was surprised to know that Fawne and Craven spoke to each other.

"Craven," she replied, nodding her head. She turned back to Fawne.

"You know him?" she asked, though afterwards it seemed a bit rude.

Rebecca Emery - May 26, 2008 11:30 PM (GMT)
Rebecca had been writing down her thoughts when she heard the chair next to her slide out and someone sit down. The entrance she had to admit was one that would disrupt any class and not to mention her train of thought. Turing toward the person who had interrupted her Rebecca’s blue eyes landed on of all people, Craven. Watching him she waited to see if he noticed he'd sat next to her. His next words which were directed to her confirmed that he indeed did.

"Same goes for you Craven," She told him her lips lifting upward into a smile as she noted the hint of humor in his voice. "I have to say it surprises me that you took the seat next to me. And also, I'm sure that you'll get in more than four words and a nod. After all I've already had."

Trailing off Rebecca's smile widened before she turned back to her paper to finish the task she’d started before Craven had interrupted her. Once she finished her blue eyes scanned her answers nodding with a small smile. She'd done her best.

Robyn Singe - May 26, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
Robyn rolled her eyes, "Just trying to get work done. I've been late to basically everyone of my lessons, and so I don't want to screw up one I kinda like." Robyn shrugged. "My dad is going to kill me about the whole... late thing. Ugh." Robyn sighed and stared at her worke again.

April Teagan - May 26, 2008 11:33 PM (GMT)
April peered over to Robyn's work and laughed.

"Concoction... something concocted. Genius!" she muttered sarcastially, looking down at her own work, amused.

Robyn Singe - May 26, 2008 11:40 PM (GMT)
OOC: That's actually the definition¡ I looked them up on dictionary.com :)
IC:
¡§Why thank you, I thought long and hard on that one!¡¨ Robyn replied, smirking. She was a bit mad at her sister; they had gotten into a fight and almost ended up tackling each other. Another girl had stopped the fight, and then Robyn had to go to Potions

Fawne Sugarmoon - May 26, 2008 11:58 PM (GMT)
Fawne had been amused at her brother's greeting, he was the more informal of the two and if you were to ever stand the two next to each other no one would dare dream they were related. She just smiled in return to his greeting but she grinned at April's nodded head, it seemed like an appropriate greeting for everyone lately.

She didn't seem taken a back bu the blunt nature of April's question in fact she didn't even seemed phased by being asked. Before they fell out everyone use to and during there not talking phase everyone use to ask why. So why not now too? With a small half smile she turned to April and replied, not meaning to knowingly butt in on the other conversation but doing so anyway before it registered in her mind.

"Craven Blackwood is my delightful Step Brother. We are not related by blood but he cares. He is rather, arrogant on the outside but i promise he is not quite so on the inside," Fawne's words were all well and good of course but she did have the tendency to see the best in everyone..

Craven Blackwood - May 27, 2008 12:04 AM (GMT)
He merely continued to grin in that cheeky smirk manor she she spoke. Fidgeting with his very short answers and books, not quite happy with he mess he'd dumped them in. It was after not quite an organised mess. Before he spoke he scribbled a few extra words to his definition, choosing to keep them simple. He knew what they meant at least.

"Surprised? Perhaps you're worried I'll ruin your hufflepuff reputation or that i bite. Trust me I'll do neither." His voice was rough and cheeky and if anything he came across as more arrogant although that might just be the fact he was in a better mood. He smiled a little more genuinely this time though the cheeky smirk was still hidden there.

"I'll be honest, dispite the fact you nearly ran into me, your not that bad to talk to. And even Slytherins like the occasional conversation."

April Teagan - May 27, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
April nodded her head in reponse to Robyn's explanation, and left the girl alone. She seemed disgruntled, and she had heard of some sort of fight between her and her sister earlier that morning. she had decided nt to mention it. She turned to Fawne.

"Really? I never would have guessed. You two are seemingly... different, to say the least. I don't know him very well, so I can't say anything on his character... but, yes still different. Well, you learn something new everyday!" she exclaimed, wondering when class would begin.

Rebecca Emery - May 27, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
As Rebecca finished scanning over her answers she turned back to Craven when he spoke to her. Hearing his words only made her laugh. She wasn’t worried at all. Her reputation she knew if ruined could always be pieced back together if need be and the biting part of his comment….well she believed if he did he would have done so already. Laughing softly at her thoughts she turned to look at Craven blue eyes watching him.

“Don’t worry I’m not worried about either of those things. For one I know a reputation can be pieced back together if need be and you biting? Well I’m sure if you did you would have done so already,” Saying this Rebecca flashed the Slytheirn boy a grin before going on. “I guess I was just judging you by your house. Slytherin’s after all don’t talk to Hufflepuff more than they do Gryffindors.” Shrugging off at her explanation she went on watching the boy tilting her head to the side slightly.

Seeing the genuine smiled shine through his cheeky smirk made Rebecca laugh once again. “Well that’s always good to know,” she announced refereeing to the part about not being bad to talk to. “And I know you guys like the occasional conversation. Trust me I do.” Trailing off at this her mind thought about Zane and April both Slytherins who’d had lengthy conversations with her. To Rebecca she knew next time she wouldn’t be so surprised.

Pushing her thoughts away she flashed Craven another smile before glancing over at Gen, their professor wondering briefly when the class was going to start and what they were going to do.

Fawne Sugarmoon - May 27, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
Fawne smiled at Aprils response, most people said the same thing. It was true the siblings had nothing in common and had fallen out to many times to count but when it came down to it that had a sense of loyalty and thats what matters.

"We have never been similar, we have always been rather apart but still close...And i am delighted i have taught you something new." She giggled softly to show her mirth before turning her gaze back to the parchment.

The parchment she was currently drawing ink ivy vines up and down the left hand side of, she just really wanted an excuse to use her new bright white quill. The questions had been answered and the teacher hadn't set anything else yet. So what else was a girl to do?

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 27, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
OOC:

I will be back online Wednesday and thats when Ill post in class! Sorry guys! Feel free to keep chit chatting in class! See you all Wednesday!

Anabelle Anderson - May 27, 2008 02:57 PM (GMT)
Ana walked into class late, completely embarrassed. It was something her mother was known for, but ever since she became old enough to go places on her own, she tried to stop. Punctuality had always been at the top of her list.

With the stressful morning she'd had, she decided to get right into the work. She pulled out her parchment and wrote each of the terms down. She struggled to remember even the simple ones. Her mind was screaming at her. She could tell this class was going to be no easy feat for her.

She finally gave up, put her quill down, and set her head on the desk, waiting for further instruction.

Ravyn Singe - May 27, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
Ravyn came into the classroom knowing that she was late. Ravyn didn't even care, potions was not a class she cared for.
Ravyn said nothing and sat into her desk. She pulled out a piece of parchment and wrote then answers to the questions in her pretty script. Ravyn pulled out a notebook and doodled.

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 28, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
Gen decided that it was time to get the class going. "Ok everyone. Im not going to call on anyone to answer for this exercise. I will just write the answers on the board." Gen walked up to the board and wrote:

Brew: Liquid mixture made by steeping, soaking, o boiling solid ingredientsin water.
Concoction: Mixture of ingredients
Elixer: Sweetened, aromatic, solution used as medicine.
Tincture: Benign medicine preserved in alcohol.
Philter: Potions designed to enchant or charm drinker.
Draught/Draft: One servign or portion of a potion.

Gen wiped the chalk off of her hands and looked at the class with a smile. "Well now that you all see the answers, I suggest that you write them down, they might be on the final." Gen said. She started walkign around the desks with her hands behind her back and her hair bouncing. "Now, does anyone have any questions about these definitions?" Gen said.

April Teagan - May 28, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
April didn't have any questions, since her answers were all correct. She snickered again at Robyn's definiton of concoction, which didn't exactly match with that on the board. April added a word or two here and there on her parchment and then capped her ink. She stared at Gen, waiting for her to continue with today's assingment. She was ready to start a new potion.

Solana Lilly - May 28, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
Solana scowled, some of her answers were wrong. She quickly changed them, and looked around the class, irritated. She was usually good at potions, what had happened today? She decided perhaps she just needed to study more...

Nana Dirks'n - May 28, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
OOC-Nana is sitting in the back corner, in case anyone is wondering
IC-
Nana scrawled the last of her answers on her parchment, she had gotten a few of them right. She had just finished copying when she noticed that a lot of the class seemed to be missing. Nana wondered why but she didn't bother to say anything.

Flame Harshing - May 28, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
Flame walked in, very late, but seeming not to care. Her cold grey eyes scanned the classroom quickly, and she pushed a pale, bony hand through her shiny, ebony hair whichshe wore in waves to her waist today. She walked past everyone, including the professor, without a word and settled in a seat at the back of the class, smirking. She knew that if anyone tried to put her in detention Lycs would get her out of it- they were family afterall.

Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the board as se thought what they must be doing. great, another easy and therefore boring lesson.

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 28, 2008 11:15 PM (GMT)
Gen noticed a student that came in terribly late. Gen hated to give detentions, but she couldnt have the students getting in the habit of being late. She walked up to Flame. "Hi Miss Harshing, do you have a good reason for being late?" Gen said smiling.

Flame Harshing - May 28, 2008 11:23 PM (GMT)
Flame looked at the professor, smirking. Though she had never met her, she knew this to be Lycs's ex, the one who couldn't get over him. Boy, was this going to be fun.

"Apart from this being a dumb lesson, and you being unable to get over my cousin? Oh, and you being half-blood? Not at all."

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 28, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
Gen was furious. How was a student going to come up here and talk to her like that. "Well actually Miss Harshing, I AM over your cousin, I actually have somewhat of a boyfriend, and you have no right to talk to me that way so I suggest that you go to the headmasters office and never step foot in my classroom again." Gen said as she walked away and went back to the front of the class.

Nana Dirks'n - May 28, 2008 11:30 PM (GMT)
Nana saw the girl who had been late to Herbology walk in late again. She notcied that Gen looked a bit annoyed with this girl. The girl had been pretty harsh in answering and she had mentioned someone Gen couldn't get over. Why had the girl even bring that up, was she trying to make Gen mad?

Flame Harshing - May 28, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
Flame satred at the professor, shocked. "You can't ban me from potions, I'm the best hope you've got for an O in this subject. What I meant is that the lesson is too easy, I know all this, and that's not what he says, professor, he says you were almost in tears over him in the staffroom the other day." Flame laughed a cold and bitter laugh. "Plus, i'd never agree to walk out of this room, and you have no way to make me."

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 28, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
Gen had tried to keep her cool and ignore her but she couldnt after a comment like that. She stood up andwalked over to where Flame was standing. "Well Miss Harshing, its none of your business, or anyone elses for that matter, what goes on in MY personal life and I would appreciate it if you didnt talk about MY personal life in front of the class. And Im sorry for telling you to never come back. Now if you please take a stea, we can get on with class." Gen was walking away when she remembered, "Oh and if you dont like the way my class is run, you can take it up with the headmaster." Gen said.

Flame Harshing - May 28, 2008 11:59 PM (GMT)
Flame stared at the professor once more. "The thing is, he doesn't like you. You or your filthy blood. He's a respectable wizard of respectable blood, and you were never going to make it with him. And I'll talk about what I want in front of who I want." she said, smirking. "I'm already sat down, and I might just do that, because, to be homest this is a little easy for my liking." she sighed. "Scone knew what he was doing..."

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 29, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
Gen decided the best thing to do was to ignore Flame. She was just trying to cause trouble. Gen smiled at the class.

OOC: I will post tomorrow (Thursday) the rest of the lesson!

Genevieve Rasmuse - May 29, 2008 08:55 PM (GMT)
Gen walked to the front of the class room. She had five jars filled with ingredients at her desk. "Ok everyone now were going to make a shrinking solution! Come up and get the ingredients. I will write the instructions on the board. Oh and just like last time, you may work in partners but I must have a sample of your own made. When you are finished please cork it in a vial and put it on my desk." Gen said with a smile. She went to the chalkboard and wrote:

Shrinking Solution / Shrinking Potion

Ingredients:
-Chopped daisy roots
-Skinned shrivelfig
-Sliced caterpillar
-One rat spleen
-Dash of leech juice

Effects: Makes things shrink in size, apparently reversing the aging process as well.

Directions: Boil water, then add all ingredients. Let boil until the potion turns green. Then simmer for five minutes, the potion should turn a red color after simmering. Once it turns red, take it off the flame, and then give me a sample.

"Ok lets get to work class!" Gen said as she awaited teh students to come and get their ingredients.

Rebecca Emery - May 29, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
Rebecca watched surprised as the events before her unfolded. The Slytherin girl, Flame, was disrespecting Gen and it seemed like the professor wanted to blast the living daylights out of the younger girl. Rebecca couldn't complain the woman who was now trying her best to keep her cool. She would have felt the same way. When the events finally came to an end though Rebecca shook her head in disbelief and glanced over to Craven to see his reaction. Knowing him to be a Slytherin himself she wondered how he would take the whole thing.

Sighing quietly at her thoughts Rebecca turned her attention back to Gen and the writing on the board as she spoke about the potion they were making today. When the woman was finished she walked up toward the front table and grabbed the ingredients she needed. As she made her way back to the table she glanced over at Craven who was sitting beside her.

"So are you good at potions?" Rebecca asked conversationally as she set ingredients to the right of her and her cauldron.

Melanie Carter - May 31, 2008 06:53 AM (GMT)
Melanie was late, again. She sauntered into the class and wandered over to the back left corner where another girl was sitting and smiled shyly. The professer was looking a bit fiery and Melanie sincerely hoped that she wouldn't get detention for being late. She had heard stories about the professer in slytherin common room. She seemed nice but one boy hadn't liked her at all. He had no respect for this teacher. So wwhat was he doing sitting a few rows in front of her? She immediatly guessed that the reason he was here was to bug her. And the reason she was fiery was because he had bugged her. A professer that didn't send him to the headmaster? Now Melanie was confused.

April Teagan - May 31, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
April began work on her potion immediately. After gathering the necessary materials, she prepared them quickly to place into the potion. She found this one easy enough, and she had brewed it many times at her own house for thier own needs. Her mother usually had her do some of the easier things and work her way up. She was very good at potions.

April chose to stay out of the conversation for now; Flame had created quite a ruckus and she didn't want to take sides or get involved. She was friends with Flame and Gen, she supposed.

Once her water was boiled, she began to place in all the ingrediants slowly. The potion continued to bubble and boil until it turned green. Perfect. She stopped the boiling and turned it to a simmering flame, and waited patiently. Eventually, the potion turned a wonderful shade of red.

April slowly took the potion off the flame and put the fire out with her wand. She uncorked a flask and placed a small sample into it, and capped it. She made the rest of her potion disapear with a flick of her wand, and brought her sample to her desk after writing her name on it. All done for the day. She went back to her seat and waited for everyone else to finish.

Nana Dirks'n - May 31, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Nana walked to the front of the classrom and gathered her ingredients. As she walked back to her desk Nana saw another girl walk in late. The girl sat next to her and seemed to be annoyed with the boy in the fromt of the classroom. Nana felt it only fair to warn the girl. She muttered,

"I warn you, my potions don't turn out well. This could end badly." Nana then began to let her potions boil.

Melanie Carter - May 31, 2008 04:28 PM (GMT)
Melanie chuckled at the girls comment and went upto the desk to collect her ingrediants praying to the lord on the way that the teacher wouldn't reconise she was late and give her detention. If she got homework as well, that would be a big bonus since she had completely free nights usually.

Emily Fall - May 31, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
Emily walked into the class very quietly hoping no one would notice her. She had already missed one class she didn't want to be spotted being late for the second one. Emily had never been good at potions but she still loved the part when you blew something up. Emily walked up to the person nearest to her and asked "Um, what are we doing?".
