Title: Muggle Studies
Description: Lesson 1 - open to all students
Janus Weir - May 27, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
(ooc, though its lesson one, it cant really be as the school year is far in, IC)
Janus walked into his classroom knowing full well that he would be waiting for all the stragglers before he could begin his lesson, then again he didn't really mind, it gave him time to catch up with the class before he had to begin teaching.
"another day another lesson"
Janus sat on the edge of his desk awaiting his first classmates.
Ravyn Singe - May 27, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
Ravyn was much like her father, and didn't really care for muggle's. She did know, however, that she needed to take the class so she could understand how muggles worked. Or at least, how they worked for her advantage.
Ravyn came into the class room and gaped. She was the first on in. She thought she was late. Ravyn glanced at her watch and then at the classroom clock and wanted to scream.
Robyn had changed her clock.
Ravyn got into a desk in the back and crossed her arms angrily.
Robyn Singe - May 27, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
Robyn smirked as she made her way now the halls.
And now the war begins....
She's changed her sisters watch, making her think that she was late. Robyn tugged on one of the blonde curls that fell from her head. She came into the room, still smirking.
"Hello Ravyn, you seem a bit early don't you?" Robyn asked, winking. Robyn then walked closer to the front and slid into her seat.
Not late for this class. Thank God.
Janus Weir - May 27, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
Janus looked up as Ravyn Singe walked in, she seemed annoyed at something as she looked at her watch.
"Nothing wrong with being early Ravyn" janus said with a sly smirk on his face!
A minute later Ravyns sister, Robyn walked in and sat down closer to the front than her sister.
"hello there Robyn, how are you today?"
Ravyn Singe - May 27, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
Ravyn smiled sweetly, "Oh I'd be happier if someone hadn't changed my clock while I was asleep last night." Ravyn sent her twin a look, and turned back to the professor.
"But, I suppose you are right, there is nothing wrong with being late." Ravyn pulled out her notebook and doodled.
Janus Weir - May 27, 2008 04:47 PM (GMT)
"pull a lot of pranks on each other do you?"
Janus gave of a little chuckle that seemed like it belong to a much older man.
"Well when everyone else arrives, today we will be taking a look at something muggles use everyday, its called a computer and then we will look at what they use them for. Have either of you dealt with computers before?"
Janus doubted they would have, most pureblood wizards had never bothered to learn about muggle things, especially not things that could be done faster by magic.
Robyn Singe - May 27, 2008 04:57 PM (GMT)
"No." The twins both replied at once. Robyn glared at her sister, and turned back.
"We both own a laptop." or six... Robyn told him. She shrugged.
"Our father thinks we should know how to use muggle things because we need to take over his businesses. And houses." Robyn knew she wouldn't get either house nor business but she skipped this minor detail.
Ravyn Singe - May 27, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
Ravyn returned the look with an innocent smile. She tugged on a strand of hair absentmindedly.
"He thinks muggles should be used for our benefit, but Robyn doesn't share this opinion." Ravyn gave a cool smile and continued to doodled.
"Not saying a have an opinion one way or the other." Ravyn added.
April Teagan - May 27, 2008 06:36 PM (GMT)
April walked into her first lesson of Muggle Studies. She didn't really understand why they had to study muggles. They weren't like animals, were they? They didn't study wizards. It was a dumb subject; she was bored just thinking about it.
She dropped her books on the desk, away from Robyn and Ravyn, who seemed to be fighting and had drawn the instructor into thier conversation. She sighed, and sat down, not wanting to attract either of the twin's attention. She may be forced to take sides next.
Anabelle Anderson - May 27, 2008 08:29 PM (GMT)
Ana walked into Muggle Studies and took a seat.
Being half-blood, she knew a pretty decent amount about muggles. Her father was a muggle, and though they lived in the wizarding world, he always taught her and her mother things about his world. He never could seem to get enough of those muggle gadgets either. He had tons of them.
She listened to the conversation the twins were having with the professor and realized they were talking about computers. Oh yes, one of her father's favorite things.
Solana Lilly - May 27, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
Solana walked into Muggle studies. She was early, as usual, she never really liked detention. She took a seat in the back by Ravyn, one of the weird twins, and set her bag by her side.
Being a half-blood, Solana knew enough about muggles and their world. Her mother had been a muggle-born after all, their house had always been a cross between muggle and magic, there were somethings her mother could not have been forced to part which, such as television and computers.
Ah, she was in luck, today the topic seemed to be computers. She knew a lot about them, she had her own laptop back home.
She sat back and waited for class to begin.
Janus Weir - May 28, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
Janus looked up as 3 more girls entered the class room
Do i have any male students?
"Hello ladies, what have you done with the males huh, killed them off for being scoundrals?" Janus said laughing.
"Right then, who here knows what a computer is, and what muggles use them for?"
Janus stood up from his desk and moved towards the black board but still faced the class!
April Teagan - May 28, 2008 01:00 AM (GMT)
April didn't bother to raise her hand.
"We did kill off the boys, yes. And I think a computer is a muggle machine. But I'm not really too sure. It can sort of...connect all them, can;t it?"
Robyn Singe - May 28, 2008 01:03 PM (GMT)
"It's something that can connect people, not only that but it's an easy way to access imformation. You can create things on it, or listen to music and even see pictures. Some of them do move and some of them do not. It's a complex device in itself, try taking one apart and putting it back together the right way! But then again, it's easy to use that even a three year old could use it." Robyn answered, not even looking up. She was friends with a Jappanese computer nerd, yes she knew lots about it.
Valentina Greysoul - May 28, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
"good morning!" Valentina said cheerily as she walked in the classroom.
only us girls, today! she thought happily.
she grabbed a sit by Anabelle, her Ravenclaw friend, as she hear something about 'computers'.
"hey, Ana!" she said as she sat down, "what's a 'computer'?"
she had never heard of that name. it sounded weird.
she grabbed parchment and quills, and turned to hear what Anabell was going to tell her.
Anabelle Anderson - May 28, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Ana smiled at her friend who had just joined her.
"Oh, computers are so cool. They can store all kinds of information completely electronically. My Dad uses it to send 'email' or electronic mail. It's kind of like sending stuff by owl, but you type it on the computer and it sends it instantly. And you can play tons of games and listen to music. And you can use it to access the internet where you can look up anything you want."
She smiled to herself thinking about when she was younger and her father used to let her sit on his lap and use the computer. She loved it.
Solana Lilly - May 28, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
Solana knew about computers. On a clean piece of parchment she wrote down what Robyn had said and some of her own information about computers. Then she waited for the class to continue.
Janus Weir - May 28, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
Janus listened to his class, he was somewhat taken aback by the amount of his class that knew what a computer was.
"you know girls, i dont think ive ever met a group of students who knew this much about computers before, hell i dont think ive met more than 3 adults who did. Perhaps its a younger generation thing" Janus chuckled.
"You are right, a computer, or a smaller version which is known as a laptop, is an electronic device which allows instant communication, and so much more as you have said, games, music, pictures both moving and not, though the moving pictures are not magical, they are generally just a type of picture that has been programmed to move... *notes some looks of confusion at the word programming* ahh yes programme, this is how computers work, you can programme a computer to do many different things, often simultaionously, the programme is written in a code, i guess you could compare it to a very complictated spell, in order to get something have to input codes IE words and poof there is the result... though it is much more complicated than this, you dont need to learn such things to pass the class... Right, with permission i have set up 5 computers in the library, now though you can't use magical eqiupment in Hogwarts, ive bewtiched them to work. In the library are some new books on how to use them."
Janus looked around at his class and took a moment as he realised he had been speaking a lot.
"your homework for next week is to go and use these computers, i want you to go on them, using the books if you dont know how, and i want you to search for something for next weeks lesson, that thing is kitchen appliances... i want you to come back with a list of as many kitchen appliances you can find, at least 2 each please"
Solana Lilly - May 29, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
Solana listened to the teacher assign the homework. She wouldn't need a computer to know what kitchen appliances were, her mother loved those- but completing the homework seemed quite impossible.
She raised her hand. "Excuse me sir, but how exactly are we supposed to research on computers in Hogwarts. We are in school, there aren't any here, all of the magic in Hogwarts renders electronics useless."
She waited for him to respond.
Melanie Carter - May 31, 2008 06:30 AM (GMT)
Melanie sidled in and hoped she wouldn't get detention for being late. She sat down no where near anyone else and took out some parchment and a bottle of ink. She watched the professer carefully making sure that he didn't se her. She didn't really know why she was bothering. He would notice she was there anyway so what was the point? Anyway she wanted to take muggle studies because her father was running a secret buisness something to do with muggles so she thought (and hoped) he would be proud of her if she was able to help him with his thing. Now back to the matter at hand. Would she gat detention or not?
Cassiopeia Seppergates - June 3, 2008 04:20 PM (GMT)
Cassie slipped into the classroom behind a Slytherin girl, cursing under her breath that she was late.
She stopped in doorway; it appeared that the other late comer was trying to be inconspicuous, and one girl sneaking in is more likely to go unnoticed than two.
When the Slytherin had got half way into the room, Cassiopeia started to edge her way behind her, praying that she would be able to drop into a free seat at the earliest possible oppurtunity. Her eyes kept flicking towards the teacher, and her breath was held.

(ooc. sorry ive not been on, net has been playing up)
Janus turned and looked directly at Solana
"Well miss Lilly, if you had been paying attention you would have heard me state that i have set up several computers in the library and have cast a spell on them so that they will work here, they will only be here for a week so please make sure you get too them."
just as he finished speaking to Solana, Janus noticed a straggler entering the room.
"Cassiopeia Seppergates, how nice of you to join us today. what could possibily have kept you so long that you are quite so late?"
Janus had a playful smile on his face, he didnt like people being late, but he wasnt the kind of teacher to scream and shout at a student and dock them points, well as long as they didnt make it a habbit!
Annabelle Fox - June 10, 2008 05:29 AM (GMT)
Annabelle entered the room just as Professor Weir scolded another student for being late.
Great, she thought. I'm late, so I'll be in trouble too. Just perfect.
This would be the second class today that she would be late for, and both reasons had been beyond her control. She had originally been late for Flying lesson because Peeves the Poltergeist had stolen her broom and placed it in such a high place. And now, she was late for Muggle Studies (a class that she had been really looking forward to, since she was a muggle born herself), because her Flying Professor had kept her after class to give her a good lecture on the importance of punctuality. And he also kept her to give her a detention.
She hoped so much that it would be a different case for this class. She took a seat in the back of the room, waiting her turn for a punishment and read the board.
Computers, eh? she thought. She really wished she hadn't missed the beginning of class. It would have been great to hear what all the witches (because there seemed to be a total lack of wizards) in the class had to say about them. She also wondered how much her teacher knew about them.
Deciding it would make her look better to appear studious, she opened up her Muggle Studies book to the index and found where the section on computers was. She opened it up and began to read, still waiting for another detention to be given to her.
Solana Lilly - June 17, 2008 01:03 AM (GMT)
Solana stared at Professor Weir and raised one eyebrow questioningly. She hadn't recalled him syaing that.
"Of course Professor Weir," she replied coldly, "I must have missed that part." The look on her face showed that she thought otherwise, "My apologies."
She sat back in her chair and crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing as usual.
Nana Dirks'n - July 1, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
OOC- sorry I haven't posted yet. But Nana was here the whole time.
IC-
Nana was sitting in the back of the room listening to all this talk about computers. She was bored out of her skull, computers were not all too interesting. Nana, who had grown up in the muggle world, could run a computer blindfolded. The teacher then wanted them to research kitchen appliances on the computer, oh joy. Nana really didn't need a computer for this assignment. She began to doodle on her parchment.
