Title: A remedy for stress

Jenna Wright - June 3, 2008 05:08 PM (GMT)
It had been another long day for Jen. She'd spent hours at the library and felt like she'd hardly accomplished anything. She was stressed and slightly frustrated. So she decided to go for a run, it was the best way that she knew how to relieve stress. So she changed into a pair of sweat pants and old shirt and made her way along the shore of the lake. It was chilly, but it felt good to be running again. The sun was on it's way down and the grounds were quickly darkening, but Jen kept on running. She ran as far as she possibly could before she just stopped and lay down. The sun was pretty gone at this point, and the moon was on its way up, stars began to appear in the darkening sky. Resting her hands behind her head she smiled and took a deep breath. There really was no better remedy for stress.

Shane Cross - June 3, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
"Alone at last.." he thought to himself as he ran along the shore of the lake, catching a second wind from nowhere. Dressed for the jog in black and red knee-length shorts and a sleeveless black shirt, he was only cold for the first few minutes until he had fully warmed up. Shane supposed he was lucky that amongst all of his friends, no one could compete with him when it came to running. It was one of the few times he could be alone with his thoughts, no one to bother him. Wizards and witches usually lacked in the physical fitness department, which he found rather annoying. "Strong body, stronger mind, and even stronger magic, that's what makes a good wizard.." his father used to say. Shane gritted his teeth as he pushed the thoughts of his dad out of his head, picking up his pace a bit in response.

Having been lost in his thoughts for quite a while, Shane realized it was already quite dark out; he would have to turn back soon. Before he did so however, he spotted a familiar Huffle laying down enjoying the view. Slowing to a walk, he comes to stand beside Jenna with his hands on his hips as he caught his breath. "Never gets old does it?" he says softly, looking out at the water shimmering under the moonlight.

Jenna Wright - June 3, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
"No it doesn't." Jenna replied as she lifted her head, turning to look at who had joined her. She smiled, recognizing the familiar Gryffindor. It seemed like he too had been out for a run as well. She turned her gaze back to the stars, the sky was beginning tobe cluttered with stars in some places. It was beautiful, as always. Lucky for her it was a clear night as well, something that didn't happen very often.

"So you like to run too, huh?" Jen asked, knowing the response. It was so much a question as a statement. She pulled herself up into a sitting position and ran a hand through her hair, fixing it. Jen was a runner, she loved it, there was no better feeling in the world. She could run for miles on end. It was really the only time of day that she had to herself, herself and her thoughts. She didn't know many people at Hogwarts who were into sports as much as she was. Being a muggleborn, she'd been exposed to the muggle sports and taken p quite a few of them, her favorite being soccer. Running kept her shape for that, but it also allowed her time to relieve the stress.

Shane Cross - June 3, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
Shane smiled down at his Hufflepuff friend, his eyes adjusting to the moonlight a little better now that he had stopped moving. He had to admit, Jenna looked amazing as she was, even in sweats, damp bangs stuck to her forehead...Jen's question snaps him back to reality, Shane running his fingers through his own hair as more of a nervous twitch than actually fixing his hair, which had nothing wrong with it. "It's the only time I get to be alone. Forget about school and everything else," he says looking back out to the lake. He felt like saying something about staying in shape, but the quote from his dad came to mind and stopped the idea dead in its tracks. Shane had never played muggle sports growing up, but running was something a wizard could do to stay in shape without arousing any suspicion. Nothing says weirdo like a fifteen year-old with no clue about how to play the world's most famous sport: football(soccer or course). Looking back down to Jenna, he nodded towards her. "So..mind if I join you or should I get lost?" he says with a smirk.

Jenna Wright - June 3, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
jen nodded, it was like Shane had read her mind. "It's the same for me. Just run and everything else disappears. When I run, it feels like the only thing left in the world is me and whats ahead of me. I can forget about everything else for just a while.. . . And it's a great way to keep in shape. But that's not really why I run." She grinned looking up at Shane with her blue eyes. She wasn't sure why she'd told him all of that, it had just kind of... come out. She didn't mind really, it was the truth in the end, and nothing to be ashamed of.

When she heard Shane ask if he could join her she couldn't help but come up with witty remark. Well maybe it wasn't witty, but it was out of character. "I think you should get lost." she was just joking of course and after a moments pause she added, "Nah, just joking. I wouldn't be that mean. You can't go inside this early on a night like this." And with that she looked back up at the sky, she felt completely content. the stress that she had felt earlier had evaporated, it would come back later, but for now she could enjoy the moment. "I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised. I don't know many wizards who keep in shape and like to run."

Shane Cross - June 3, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
Shane listens intently as Jenna talked about running and staying in shape, smiling as he realized how much they had in common. "Ha, well Merlin knows you don't need any help with your figure," he says out of nowhere, surprising even himself. Blinking, he breaks eye contact with Jenna, looking back out to the lake. Mentally he was kicking himself, but he shows no outward physical signs of being uncomfortable. What was wrong with him? Something to do with the running..what'd muggles call it..endorphyns? Regardless, Shane would have to be careful not to let anything else slip. Unlike the spring formal, he no longer had the firewhisky to blame if any of his compliments were unwanted.

He glanced back to Jenna as she told him to get lost, feigning a hurt look. "Hm, I knew you couldn't be that cold-blooded," he said with a smirk as he took a seat on the cool grass next to her. Taking a deep breath he looked up at the starkissed sky, still unable to feel the chill of the night. "Yeah well same goes for you, I don't know any witches who get all dressed up for late night lakeside runs.." he says with a smirk, obviously joking about her running attire. Looking to her his smile fades as he pauses for a little longer than is comfortable, contemplating on whether or not to supress what he was about to say. "My..dad..used to say that a strong body helped a wizard or witch with everything else they did," he says a little softer than he usually speaks. Cracking a smile he returns his gaze to the lake, wondering if he'd divulged too much. Only her response would tell.

Jenna Wright - June 3, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
Jenna let out a laugh, but immediately blushed at his compliment, she looked down at the ground momentarily before looking back up at Shane. She hoped that it was too dark to see her burning cheeks. Knowing her luck, it wouldn't be. "Well thank you ...." Jen was one of those girls who blushed at every compliment they ever received. She wasn't really used to the compliments, sure she got them from time to time, but she hadn't gotten so many since... well, since Logan. Trying to get that out of her mind she turned to Shane, "Well you certainly are one for compliments it seems. Still, it's not exactly like you need to keep up with the running either." And with that, she felt herself blushing again. She tore her gaze away and looked out at the lake. It was gorgeous, with moon a broken reflection in the water.

Jen watched Shane for his reaction to her comment. She was glad he hadn't taken offense to it, she'd been worried for a second. "Yea well, I'm a Huffie, what do you expect? I can't be mean to anyone, not even a Slytherin," She laughed and turned towards the sky. It had been a long time since she'd felt so content and relaxed. "Yes well, I can't go running without looking good. What kind of person wouldn't want to dress up for a good, old run?" She was joking along with Shane of course. Sweats and an old shirt wasn't exactly what she'd call dress up material, they were certainly more comfortable then jeans and heels by all means. Jenna caught his gaze, but looked away as he did, feeling herself blush for the third time that night. She could hear the hesitation in his voice and wondered what he was holding back. "I think he's right. You can be strong minded, but if you're weak bodied, then you havn't got anything." She said softly, matching Shane's level.

Shane Cross - June 3, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
Shane grinned a bit, unable to see the color in Jen's face but could tell by her body language that it had to be there. He nods in response to her thanks, still wearing a knowing grin. When Jenna finally compliments him however, his cool exterior falters for a moment. Sure he had no problems flirting on occassion but most girls at this school would just blush, mutter a thanks, and move on with the conversation. Rarely he received a compliment in return. "Uh..why thanks. Seems it's been worth it then," he says quickly, also fixing his eyes on the lake, which had grown rather still.

"I've yet to meet a mean Hufflepuff, I don't think they come that way," he jokes. "But I've only met one Slytherin worth being nice to, sometimes makes me wonder about the whole house in general," he says with a little hesitation; some people took offense to bad talking the Slytherin house and he definitely didn't want to upset Jenna. The conversation was going great, as it usually did between them. This was cemented in stone when Jenna responded softly to the comment about his dad, a great feeling of relief sweeping over him. She was a sweet girl, he'd been silly to think she'd say anything harsh or judgemental. Tearing his eyes from the beautiful scene before him, he turned to the one sitting right next to him. Smiling, he nodded. "Yeah I think that's what he was always getting at.."

Jenna Wright - June 3, 2008 11:14 PM (GMT)
Jenna couldn't help but grin at Shane's response, It was harmless flirting of course, but if she was going to blush then she didn't want to be the only one blushing. "Working out is usually worth it" She said with a grin, one to match Shane's. Jenna was a bit of a flirt when it came down to it, though it usually took a while for the flirting to come out. It was all in good fun. She paused as she looked out at the lake. and then decided she would take to laying down again, her hands behind her head. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she took in the view of the stars. Night seemed to be her favorite time. She could always count on it to be peaceful, there was nothing intruding about it. Just the moon, stars, and the sound of the animals. It was perfect in her mind.

"Good point. I've met a lot of Hufflepuffs, I've yet to get in a fight with any one of them. And that's saying something, considering I live with them. Sometimes I think they're too nice," Jen said, half jokingly. It was true though. There was a point when you were just surrounded by too many nice people. "I've actually met a couple nice Slytherins. Just goes to show that not everyone fits the stereotypes. But then there are those who fit that stereotype quite perfectly." Jenna grinned and looked at Shane, she had to admit, she'd never blushed or smiled quite so much in one conversation. "I think you're dad's right on the spot," She said, almost reassuringly. She didn't understand what Shane was being hesitant about, she wanted ask but thought that that could be a bad idea. She didn't want to ruin the conversation so thought better of it.

Shane Cross - June 4, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Shane smirked, feeling his cheeks grow a little warm. He hoped for his sake that it was too dark for Jenna to notice. He nodded in response to her remark about working out, leaning back on his elbows and stretching out his legs to get a little more comfortable. "I'd offer to go running with you if I wasn't sure I'd leave you gasping back by the castle," he replies, teasing of course. A smile crept across his features as he watched the starry sky shimmer; he couldn't recall a time in recent memory where he'd been so relaxed, so content. He looked to Jenna as she lie back down beside him, biting his lip and deciding against saying anything else. The silence was incredible, not uncomfortable in the least and he'd leave it up to her whether or not she wanted to break it. Eventually it's over and Shane looks down at Jenna as she speaks.

"Yeah I guess too many nice people would start to get on my nerves after a while. I can only handle so much optimism before my head explodes," he replies, grinning right back. While Shane was by most definitions an optimist himself, he also considered himself a realist. He rolled his eyes at Jen's comments about the Slytherin, agreeing wholeheartedly. "Some of them are alright but...a lot of them just don't turn out right. I always wondered if the bad ones were sorted differently if they would be any better off." His grin falters for a moment as she talks about his dad, Shane nodding in reply. He was kind of hoping she would drop it, but he wasn't going to come right out and tell her to do so. It was him who'd brought up his father anyways. "He was right about a lot of things," he says, staring into those sultry blues.

Jenna Wright - June 5, 2008 04:07 AM (GMT)
Jen glanced over at Shane, she could guess that he was blushing, a rare sight it would seem. She smiled and looked back up to the moon. Jen loved the moon, which sounds weird when you put it like that. But the thing is, the moon is always the same no matter where you go. Everybody falls asleep looking to the same moon. There would always be thos little craters in the moon no matter where she was. Shane's comment quickly whipped her out of her thoughts, causing her bolt up into a sitting postion. Consequently she got a head rush and took a second to steady herself. "You think you'd leave me in the dust? I bet I could beat you any day!" Jen challenged, teasing Shane in response. It was more than probable that Shane would be able to beat her, but she had a competitors heart. She laughed and shook her head looking back out over the lake. There were so many good views, she wasn't sure where to look.

Turning her gaze to Shane as he spoke, Jen couldn't help but smile. She thought of Logan for a second, and her smile faltered momentarily. She hadn't seen him in ages, it was over and she needed to get over it. Shaking the thoughts from her head, she responded, "Like if some of them were sorted into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor? . . . That would be an interesting experience. I think it could make a difference, in some ways. But for some that would be hard, because it's the way they've grown up their whole lives, they don't know any different and I think it would be hard to change those of views. But it gets you wondering, doesn't it? I think I just rambled . . ." She paused and looked down at her feet. But when Shane made that last comment about his dad she couldn't help but look at him quizically. He was holding something back, and she was curious, but she knew better than to ask, so decided to drop the whole subject.

Shane Cross - June 5, 2008 03:48 PM (GMT)
Shane laughed as Jenna snapped upright, shaking his head at her. "Ahhh Jenna, as much as I'd like to believe that, right now you just looked like you were about to faint from sitting up too fast," he says looking up at her with a grin. "But if that's a challenge for another time, then I gladly accept." She was right after all, it's not like he needed to run as hard as he could to stay in shape. He would make the sacrifice and take it easy for a run if it meant hanging out with Jenna...okay maybe a couple of runs. Still making eye contact, it was impossible to overlook the competitive gleam in her eye, a rediculously attractive character trait to say the least.

Sitting back up he laughs, going back to watching the sky. "Don't worry about it, I don't mind your rambling. It's cute." Shane wasn't going to look at her for her own sake; he was positive that once again she would be blushing profusely and watching her would only cause further embarassment..but the temptation proved too great. Looking back to her, he continued. "But yeah you get my point. Some of them wouldn't be so bad if they had the right kind of friends to straighten 'em out." Shane thanks his lucky stars (judging by how many were visible right now it was no wonder) as his family is dropped from the conversation. Recognizing the opportunity to change subjects, he immediately does so. "So Jenna, other than attending dances that you don't really enjoy and running late at night, what else do you do for fun around here?"

Jenna Wright - June 5, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
Jenna shrugged, "I have a tendancy to do that. It just goes with being a fast paced kind of person." She said somewhat teasingly. Of course, it often happened that she sat up too fast and would have to wait a few seconds before the world straightened out. She smirked, slightly, "Well I'll hold you to that then." She couldn't help but smile, for many reasons it would seem. If she started running with Shane, well that woukd be great. She'd had have a running partner, and she'd get to spend more time with Shane. A win win situation. She grinned, catching his eye, not wanting to look away. She felt her cheeks grow warm, and she hoped that it wasn't too visible. What was it with her and blushing. She looked down at her feet, still smiling, and silently cursing herself for blushing so much.

Jen looked over at Shane when he said her rambling was cute. She smiled, laughing softly. "Well that's a good thing. Not many people appreciate that trait. It seems I have a slight tendancy to talk too much and go on about random things." Of course, her cheeks were burning once more, "You know, I don't think I've ever blushed so much in one conversation. You seem to have a knack for that." She said, somewhat jokingly. It was true of course, more than half the things he said ended with her blushing. "But if they were all straightened out, then we'd lose half the fun of Hogwarts. I have to admit, the Slytherins certainly keep things interesting at times. Maybe not the best people to have around, but they sure know how to get a fight started." She shrugged, fights could be interesting sometimes. And every now and then, it wasn't so bad to talk back to a Slytherin, especially if boredom seemed inescapable. It was all in good fun. She thought about Shan'es question. "Hrm... For fun? I like to study in the library. . . Nah just kidding. Pretty much, I spend as much time out here as possible. Stir up a little trouble when the time comes. I really don't know. I guess it's just what appeals at the time. What about you? What do you do for fun?"

Shane Cross - June 5, 2008 09:21 PM (GMT)
Shane raised a brow, unable to wipe the grin off of his face. "Well lucky for you if you manage to pass out and faceplant around me doing something extreme; sitting up for example, I'm quite capable of bringing you around." It was true, he had long ago mastered enneverate, episkey , and several other more advanced healing charms, the natural skill no doubt enherited from his mother who was a healing genius as far as he was concerned. It was her who saved his life last summer when he lost his arm, and with some complex wandwork, built the impressive replacement right there on the spot. "You seriously wanna run with me? Agh..twist my arm Jenna..." he groans, rolling his eyes before smiling. "I'm already looking forward to it." He glanced up as a shooting star briefly lit the grounds, burning out as fast as it had appeared. "Well where there's one there's bound to be more. Might've lucked out tonight. Making a wish?" he says softly, still watching the sky for any stragglers. He loved staring up at the night sky; nothing was more relaxing than the countless nights he spent on the roof of his manor during summer breaks.

Looking back to Jenna as she began to speak, he smiled as he did every time she had anything to say to him. "Nah, I like to hear you talk, ramble away.." he replies, shrugging. Her voice was soothing music for sore ears, and it nearly gave him shivers every time she said his name. "Really? I thought you were just easily flustered..hard to believe a girl like you doesn't get compliments left and right," he teased, pausing as he averted his eyes for a moment. "And I can't recall a time where anybody made me blush..kudos to you on that." Shane was usually the one making a girl blush with no retaliation if you could call it that, after all his dating record consisted mainly of the shy, reserved type. Rarely did he fall for the fiery, energetic type of girl that Jenna was, It was a welcome change of pace though, it'd been nine months since...her.

"Yeah I suppose things would get dull if there were no Slytherin around," he says, thinking back to his duel at the spring formal. "Although as much fun as it is, I'm not sure it's worth it in the long run. Look at Voldemort, and the Death Eaters were almost entirely Slytherin. I can't help but wonder if history would've turned out better had their time here at Hogwarts been different," he says, speaking from experience he would rather not have. It was a subject that was a bit dramatic. Fearing it would soon take away from the flirtacious, fun atmosphere they had going, he decided not to go into it any further.

Shane laughed again as she mentioned the library. His face was beginning to hurt; this smiling had to stop. "I pinned you for a trouble maker the moment I saw you. One of the reasons I decided to wander over and harass you at the dance," he replies, still smiling of course. "Me? Well this might come as a shock but I love magic, it never gets old for me. I spend a lot of time perfecting my spells; it's the only thing that keeps me in half of my classes," he says with a grimace. He drove his teachers nuts, having so much talent but so little motivation to complete his assignments. "You already know I like to work out..hmm..what else...I like Quidditch, but I'm not the greatest on a broom." It was an understatement, he had made the team last year and played as a Chaser.

Jenna Wright - June 7, 2008 04:07 AM (GMT)
((jeez that's a really long post!! lol :D ))

Jenna grinned, “Hopefully that will never happen, for my sake…. And for the sake of my dignity. But that’s certainly good to know. So now I don’t have to worry as much about passing out if I’m around you. I don’t know many people who could do that. I’m not gonna lie, that’s pretty awesome!.” She looked over Shane, still grinning. She thought that is was pretty awesome that Shane could do that, it was pretty hard to master as far as she was concerned. “Yes, I really want to run with you. Of course, if you don’t want to that’s absolutely fine.” She hoped that Shane would agree to run with her. Running by yourself was all fine and dandy, you could go at your own pace and not have to worry about making conversation. But sometimes she preferred a running partner, and what better partner than Shane?

“Twist your arm?” She asked, looking at shane quizzically, not sure what he meant by that. “What do you mean.” Jen was confused, and that showed up quite visibly on her pretty features. She paused, “I’m looking forward to it too.” She grinned happily, and looked down at her feet momentarily. She followed Shane’s gaze towards the sky, only to see a shooting star. She closed her eyes, making a wish. Looking at Shane, she nodded. “Yup. I made a wish.” She said in response, rather proudly, as if she was a three-year-old who’d just done something exciting. “Did you make a wish?” She was the type of girl who would sit for hours looking for the brightest star in the night sky, and once it had been found she’d go through with the “star light, star bright” poem before she’d make a wish. She is also a big believer in wishes, sure you had to work to get the things you wanted, but that doesn’t mean that your wishes and dreams can’t come true. If she could have her way, she’d spent all night out just gazing at the stars.

When Jen heard that Shane liked to hear her talk she was slightly surprised, but happy nonetheless. She smiled, blushing slightly, a regular occurrence at this point. “Really? I usually get told to shut up!” She laughed, it was true. Jen was a talker, she rambled incessantly about things that were usually of no importance, especially when she feels particularly energetic. “Trust me, I’m not always this flustered. And you better believe it; I don’t get compliments left and right.” She looked at Shane, slightly bemused and surprised. “You’ve never blushed before? Really? Well, it would seem that I have made Shane Cross blush for the first time… and not the last” She teased with a wink, she was only teasing off course. But if he was going to tease her, well she couldn’t go down without a fight.
Jenna looked at Shane, pondering for a moment. “Yea, I suppose. I don’t think it would change all of them though. By the time they get sorted a lot of them are already set in their ways. Their opinions have been passed down through generations. It’s hard to change something. I bet it would change the outcome of some Slytherins if they were sorted differently, but for a lot of them, I doubt it.” She looked out of lake, wondering what it would be like at Hogwarts if there were no Slytherins, would it really make a difference? It was hard to say.

“I look like a trouble maker? I thought I had that innocent façade going on. I guess I’ll have to work on that one…. But I’m glad that you marked me as a troublesome student and decided to harass me.” She grinned, blushing of course. Her words were the truth of course. She was glad to of met Shane, glad that he had decided to approach her at the dance. It was true, she was developing feelings for Shane. It was hard, of course, because she was still getting over Logan, he had practically disappeared off the face of the earth, and that had been months ago. “You actually practice?” She teased, “Nah, that’s cool! I should practice more. You could probably teach me a thing or two. I’m not too great on a broom either. I love Quidditch though, but I prefer the muggle sports.” She smiled, thinking of her home football (soccer) team, she couldn’t wait to get back to playing with them. “Believe it or not, I’m pretty terrible when it comes to Quidditch.”

Shane Cross - June 7, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
Shane smirks, feeling the heat in his face once again. "Thanks..and now that I think about it, I might not bring you back right away. Carrying you around would be kinda fun," he teased. He almost burst out laughing as he imagined being caught and questioned by a professor as he was carrying a passed out Hufflepuff. He blinks as she is confused by his comment, shaking his head. "Figure of speech, forget about it." It was an American saying, it wasn't a surprise that she didn't understand it. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed Jenna closing hers moments after the shooting star streaked overhead. It made him want to smile, but he didn't. "Yeah I made a wish." Only time would tell if shooting stars could grant such extreme, complex wishes though. Maybe he should have made a different one..?

The Gryffindor raised a brow as Jenna insisted she wasn't complimented all the time. "Ahh well the only reason for that is that you intimidate all the guys. Gorgeous girl like yourself, they must be terrified of getting shot down. And I didn't say I've never blushed, I just said I can't remember the last time that it happened.." he says with a smirk, giving her shoulder a playful nudge. He listened intently as she talked about the Slytherin house, but decided against saying anything else to keep the topic alive. There were more fun things to talk about; forget the snakes and all the problems they cause. "Yeah well I saw right through the facade; I could tell that the bombshell in the blue dress sitting by herself was a troublemaker just in need of an opportunity to cause a little mischeif," he says with a smile, thinking back to that night. "And now that we're friends it appears I'm free to harass you around the clock!" It was a shame he had met her there and not prior to the dance; it would've been a perfect opportunity to ask her to the formal and get to know her better. Jenna's words snap him out of his thoughts about dances and firewhisky. "You calling me a nerd?" he replies, feigning shock. "Ha, if you ever need help with spells, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand. And maybe I can help you out with your broom skills..I actually played chaser last year," he says with a grin. "And in return maybe you can introduce me to some muggle sports?" Shane paused, asking his next question carefully. "Are you muggleborn by the way?" He had already assumed this much, but figured he might as well ask.

Jenna Wright - June 7, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
Jenna laughed, "That would be a sight for sore eyes! Carry me around huh? Maybe I should start passing out." She looked at Shane, grinning. She could just imagine that one. He would either look like some hero carrying some poor, passed out Hufflepuff, or he'd just like kind of wierd. Jenna paused, curious to know what he meant. "Apparently I'm not one for figures of speech either. I've never understood have of those. I guess I need some sort of book, or something, explaining them all." It was true, half of the figures of speech that were used usually went over her. It was frustrating at times, but often caused a good laugh. Jenna smiled, wondered what Shane's wish had been. Of course, she couldn't ask him, because then it wouldn't come true. She hoped that hers would come true. "Do you believe in wishes?" She asked, curiously, looking back up the sky, wondering if another shooting star would appear tonight.

At that Jenna blushed profusely, but she couldn't help but laugh. "Ah well, I must admit, I can be a pretty terrifying person. I just like intimidate everyone that comes near me!" She said jokingly. "I've never received so many compliments in one night! I should hang out with you more often, it's a huge ego booster! But I can't have everything, I guess I'm the first person who's made you blush in a very long time then" She said, nudging Shane back and laughing. "Well then, it seems it was a good thing you saw right through that facade!" She was still blushing of course, but at this point she was so used to it that it hardly bothered her. She was glad that Shane had approached her at the dance, saving her from her bottomless pit of boredom. "Ah well, I guess I'll be blushing around clock at this rate!" She smiled and looked over at the lake. She leaned back on her elbows, looking up towards the sky, trying to guess what time it was. Of course, she had no idea, and she didn't really care to know. Looking over at Shane, she laughed, "Yup! I am calling you a nerd! There's nothing wrong with being a nerd" She said teasingly. "And It pays off to be friends with nerds it seems. Huh, so you are good on the broom then! You lied!" She laughed "I guess you are gonna have to help me on that one. I mean, what kind of witch sucks when it comes to flying? But seriously, you played chaser?" She had to admit, that was pretty cool. She was terrible when it came to quidditch, she just didn't have to coordination for it. She'd spent too many years on the ground playing muggle sports. "I suppose I could introduce you to the muggle sports. How about football? It's what I play back home. And yes, I am a muggleborn through and through. Only witch in my entire family it seems" She said rather proudly.

Shane Cross - June 7, 2008 10:25 PM (GMT)
Shane grins, imagining carrying Jenna around concious. It was long ago he learned that regardless of how crazy a girl got or how loud she screamed for him to put her down, they all secretly loved being carried around. Especially near bodies of water when you threatened to toss them in. "Hm well now that I've seen you out running you're not going to be able to convince me you're lazy, so don't think I'll just carry you around everywhere," he teases, pausing before he adds "..not that I couldn't." He smirked as she talked about figures of speech. "Well maybe I should buy you a book of analogies or something..I've got nothing," he says shrugging. He traced her eyes back to the sky, looking up himself. "Wishes...not so much..but one can always hope," he says, avoiding her gaze by scanning the night sky for more shooting stars.

He laughs at her joke about intimidating people, giving her another playful prod. "Mm, I see what people have to be afraid of! You're vicious!" he mocks, this time poking her gently in the ribs, just enough to tickle. They say you can tell if a person is into you if they initiate physical contact; if this was true then Shane was being a bit obvious but at the moment didn't care. "Well if you want to hang out more often I'm sure I could handle that," he replies, rubbing his legs with his hands to warm them as the chill of the night starts to take effect.

"Ha, well if I were a nerd I'd probably have great marks young lady! And yes I'm pretty good on a broom, but I'm not nearly as good as I was last year.." he says, realizing he sounds like an old man talking about being young. The prosthetic arm was not the same as the real thing, and being right handed it meant the control hand on the broom was his left. The intricate rolls and weaves he used to pull naturally on a broom were now a gamble whether or not he would end up in the hospital wing. Shane broke from his thoughts and looked to Jenna. Did she know? Should he tell her? It'd be weird if she found out weeks after meeting him, but it was also strange to bring it up in conversation. "It's not like I'm dying or keeping a big secret..she'll find out eventually," he thought to himself. He smiled as she offered to introduce him to muggle sports, having always found them fascinating, if not confusing. "I'd like that a lot. And that's cool you're muggleborn, it must've been amazing to find out there was a whole new world out there. I envy you for that," he says softly, smiling before looking back up to the stars. "It's kinda chilly out, you wanna start walking...somewhere, anywhere?"

Jenna Wright - June 7, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
Jenna looked over at Shane, she waas, of course, grinning. She could just imagine that, him carrying her around, concious or not. She almost blushed at the idea, almost. "But how do you know I'm not lazy when I'm not running. You never know, I could be a lazy person who enjoys running every now and then. So you might just have to carry me around, otherwise I may never get anywhere." Obviously, Jen wasn't a lazy person, she was always up and running, and absolutely hated lounging about. "Hrm, maybe you should. And then I can figure out what you meant just now about twisting your arm...," She smiled. "But how can you not believe in wishes? Making a wish is a part of hoping. Maybe a wish doesn't necessarily come true, but if you make a wish, then you're hoping for something.... I don't think I made any sense just then. I just went in circles didn't I?" Jenna laughed, looking back up to the sky.

Jenna looked at Shane, feigning shock. "Am I really vicious?" She asked, teasingly. "I didn't think I was that vicious!" She squealed and squirmed when he poked her, which caused her to burst out laughing. She was incredibly ticklish, if you poked her in the right spot she really would just squeal like a mouse. It was rather amusing to watch at times, which caused many people to just sit there and poke her. "You know if you don't want to hang out that often, that's fine. You might not be able to handle it in the end" She joked. She really did want to hang out with him more often, she only hoped that he wanted to hang out with her too.

"You don't have to get good grades to be a nerd! Besides, everybody's secretly a nerd in some way. So don't worry about it!" Jen responded, laughing. She believed that everybody was nerdy in there own way, it was just more obvious in some than others. "Well I still bet you could whoop me on a broom any day, even if you're not as good as you were last year," Jen said, somewhat reassuringly. She was pretty bad when it came to flying, it just didn't come naturally to her as it did to others. She could hardly fly in a straight, not only that, but she wasn't a big heights person. She supposed that playing muggle sports had somewhat incorporated to that. She was so used to playing on the ground, in general, quidditch was a lot like a lot of the muggle sports, but it was the flying she couldn't get the hang of. Pretty much, she preferred to stay on the ground. "Well then, seems like we have a lot to teach each other. That'll keep us busy!" She laughed, but was slightly surprised by Shane's comment. "You envy that? Yea, it was cool. I was entered a world that I'd only thought existed between the pages of books. But that meant that I had to give up a lot of things too." Like friends, for example, she thought. It had been hard on her, and it still was. Life was great, and she couldn't believe she was a witch, she couldn't wish for anything better. But many a time she had wished that she could all of that with her friends. "Still, it is pretty awesome" Jenna concluded, not wanting to dampen the mood. She immediately perked up at Shane's suggestion. "That sounds great. It's getting a little chilly, so moving would be good. I say we just walk and see where we end up. Unless you had anywhere in particular you wanted to go?"

Shane Cross - June 13, 2008 01:09 AM (GMT)
Shane smiled, glancing down at the grass he was sitting on. He reaches down with his hand and with much effort, pulls a single blade of grass up. Carefully spinning the grass between his fingers, he watches it. Although it didn't look it, he was concentrating quite hard on making his hand do exactly what he wanted. "You're not lazy..I can tell by the look in your eyes," he says cooly, not yet looking back to her. "You are going in circles..but I didnt say I had no hope...life would be pretty depressing without hope!" He spoke from experience, the beginning of this school year had definitely been an all-time low, but he had pulled through, as he always did.

Finally looking to her, he grins. "Vicious..like a kitten?" he jokes, taking the opportunity to poke her one last time....for now. He raised a brow at her next comment, shaking his head. "Somehow I think I can handle large doses of Jenna..although my jaw's already sore from smiling this much." Spending more time with Jenna was definitely high on his to-do list, and it didn't look like much would change that. He watched her but said nothing about being nerdy. He supposed it depended on your definition of the word. "Wow, well you make yourself sound pretty awful on a broom...so yeah I probably will whoop you!" he says with a wink. "I'd love to show you what I know though...just don't pass out on my broom." He smirked, but listened as Jenna talked about discovering the magical world. His world. "I can imagine some things were less than pleasant..but belonging to both worlds..you must know so much! Muggle things that make no sense to purebloods like myself are just everyday objects to you. It must be funny to watch us try and understand the muggle world."

Dropping the blade of grass, he pushes himself to his feet, reaching down to take Jenna's hand and gently pull her up. "I suppose we could just wander aimlessly...somewhere near the castle. I'd hate to realize we're tired of walking three miles from the school." Realizing he's still holding her hand, he lets go and turns to walk back towards the school. "Shall we?"

OOC : Pretty snubbed out post, but you've waited long enough and I figured we could end it right here. It's getting pretty romantic for their second time hanging out..
