Title: The Life and Times of Annabelle Fox
Description: Good times, good times.

Annabelle Fox - June 10, 2008 08:17 AM (GMT)
First Entry as a First Year

So, I've been at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for a total of two days, and it is nothing like I expected. When I got the letter saying I was a witch, I immediately imagined all sorts of fantasies where I was the perfect witch. I pictured me on a broom, brandishing a wand and performing spells with a simple flick of the wrist. Of course, I was so wrong. I completely underestimated exactly how hard this line of study can be. So far, I've managed to be late for 2 classes and be a complete failure in Potions (well, I can't say a complete failure, I'm just not as good as I thought).

I think I definitely need to step it up and work harder than I have been. From this moment on, I vow to study harder and be the student I originally planned to be.

Which reminds me...I spent the entire train ride to Hogwarts (by the way, most amazing train ride EVER) reading up on the four different houses that they divide the students into. For your benefit, here are the different houses and attributes that a student possesses to be placed into that house.

Gryffindor: Created and named after co-founder Godric Gryffindor. Students in this house usually exhibit qualities of bravery, justice, kindness, and strength.

Hufflepuff: Created and named after co-founder Helga Hufflepuff. Students in this house usually exhibit qualities of even-temperedness, loyalty, friendliness, and fellowship.

Slytherin: Created and named after co-founder Salazar Slytherin. Students in this house usually exhibit qualities of cunning, slyness, stubbornness, and tend to look after themselves.

Ravenclaw: Created and named after co-founder Rowena Ravenclaw. Students in this house usually exhibit qualities of intellect, quick wit, cool-headedness, and insight.

As I read each attribute that separated the house, I figured that they would probably place me into Hufflepuff. I mean, I've always been told I'm too kind for my own good and that I'm loyal to a fault. But as soon as that hat touched my head, it sorted me into Ravenclaw! I couldn't believe it. I'm not studious...well, maybe I am a little. But that's only when something truly interests me. I mean, look at how my first day went: late for 2 classes and I wrote a horrid Potions report! That doesn't sound very Ravenclaw-esque to me.

The thought has been bothering me these last two days, but tonight as I was talking to some older students that I met today (my first real encounter with other students that didn't involve them laughing at my expense), an idea formed in my head. I had read up on all things Ravenclaw before bed my first night, and I came across some reading on a woman who influenced Rowena Ravenclaw's studies. Her name was Lelia Fox, a woman who was so intelligent that she learned to tame dragons and even speak their language. Her last name was Fox, just like mine.

So, I've obviously come to the conclusion that I am, in fact, related to Lelia Fox in some way. I have to be...it's the only way I could possibly be a Ravenclaw, right? I mean, I'm not that intelligent (at least, I don't think I am) and that would be the only thing to explain why the hat immediately put me into Ravenclaw.

In conclusion, the next time I can, I'm making a run to the library to see if there's any books on Lelia. I'm also going to write to my Grandmother and tell her that she needs to trace our genealogy as far back as she can. If by some miracle, we can look back as far as 411, I might know exactly where my magic bloodline came from!
