Title: Detention #1
Description: April and Ea
Friday Ryder - June 12, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
Friday was a bit annoyed that he had to watch over a detention, one of his first days at Hogwarts. He tidied up his office quickly, making sure everything was neat, organized, and aligned. Afted this, he sat in his comfortable chair and sat back.
In the center of his office was a small coffe table with two leather chairs set up with it. In front of each place was parchment, ink and a quill. He expected them to write lines, and would instruct them both to do so. He smiled coldy, placing his fingers together and thinking for a moment.
He was just starting to relax when he heard the door open, and the first student entered his room.
[[OOC: Post now Ea, then April, then I'll post again. After that, I'll leave. ]]
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 07:17 PM (GMT)
Ea sighed slightly as she walked down the hallway with a bounce in her step. Even though no one was around to see it, she forced a smile onto her face. She wasn't going to let this detention bring her down, even though it did sort of get in the way of the evening swim she had planned.
Why was it she couldn't just follow the rules? She tried to, usually, but somehow her feet just took her to places where she wasn't supposed to be, at a time she wasn't supposed to be there.
This time, she had been out of bed, on her way to the Astronomy Tower in the middle of the night when caught by a professor and sentenced to this evening-detention. All she had wanted was a bit of fresh air.
As she reached the office in which the detention would take place she knocked lightly four times on the door before opening it.
'"Professor Ryder?" she asked in her usual light voice. As she closed the door behind her she added a
"you're awfully young to call yourself a professor" under her breath, merely speaking her thoughts out loud.
She didn't wait for him to instruct her but simply sat down in one of the two chairs. Ea wondered who the other chair was meant for. She took a cross-legged position, oblivious to whether this was appropriate. She tilted her head.
"So?"
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 07:20 PM (GMT)
April didn't bother to knock as she entered the Astronomy Professor's room. She had, of course, been caught on the Astronomy Tower late at night, and apparently the Professor had been studying the stars or something. She busted into the room and stared at him, closing the door slowly until it clicked. The Proffessor didn't move, but sat in his chair.
April looked around and saw another girl was already here. Great; not only was she in detention, but she was indetention with a loony. The girl looked odd, and had been about to speak to the Professor, she assumed, when April had barged in. April sat on the other chair available and waited for her instructions.
Friday Ryder - June 12, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
Ryder watched as the two miscreants entered the room; the first one, acting polite, and the second, roughly barging into the room. He knew April, the second one, was a Slytherin, so he allowed her the leniancy. He was always one to play favorites, as he had been a Slytherin himself. He smirked as both girls seated themselves.
The other girl, Ea, was looking around the room and had already asked several questions. Ryder didn't answer because April had interupted him, but he stood up as she sat down to speak.
"I would have come up with something creative for you to do, but I don't have the time nor the patience to sit with you miscreants. So, I'll have you doing lines. Simple yet tedious, so I'm sure you'll realize next time, you won't be caught."
"Please write 'I will not invade Ryder's privacy on the Tower' as may times as possible. This detention will be two hours. I'm leaving for dinner, and I'll return when you can leave."
"Let it be known, children, that I will know if you leave. I'm not ignorant, so don't try to pull any fast ones on me. Goodbye."
Ryder swept out of the room, his stomach rumbling and his patience already gone.
Ezekiel Torch - June 12, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Ea watched as someone entered. She was about to greet her but the girl did not at all look happy, so she decided not to. She looked at the professor who stood up to speak.
She couldn't help but smile, since the whole thing seemed a bit overly dramatised to her.
However, Ea's smile turned into a frown as soon as Ryder mentioned that he was going to have them write lines.
Ea wasn't a good speller, and since she was left-handed she always seemed to get ink all over her. Besides, in her mother's words, her handwriting looked like 'the work of a four-year-old'.
As the professor left, Ea glanced at the Slytherin.
"So.." she said again, trying to sound as cheerful as possible.
"We better get to it then?" she said, picking up a quill. She held it in an awkward way as she waited for the Slytherin to do the same.
OOC: ah, the magic of multiple charries. This is as Ea, of course:)
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
April was annoyed at the prospect of writing lines, and especially at having to miss a bautiful day outside to do it. She had been planning on going flying, but those plans had changed abruplty. She groaned as she grabbed the quill, tapping it on the desk without starting to write. She knew the Proffesor would want at least some lines written, but she also knew she could get away with almost anything.
"So...We better get to it then?" the other girl offered, and April stared at her, rolling her eyes. She said nothing back, but looked away coldly.
She dipped the quill in ink and began to write, scratching it quickly but extremely neatly, as this was how April was. She glanced over to make sure the othe girl was doing her worj too, so she wouldn't get in trouble if the little loser decided not to do anything.
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
Ea had dipped her pen in the ink but was hesitating to write. She was repeating the words in her head, trying to get them right before actually putting them down.
As the Slytherin started writing, Ea glanced at her paper.
Typical.. she has a perfect handwriting, Ea thought regretfully.
She didn't want to cheat, but she wanted to spell the words right. She leaned in a little, glancing in the direction of her paper.
As the other girl suddenly looked up, Ea took a small jump of surprise.
"I.." she said, her voice light.
"I'm not a very good speller" she stated, truthfully, without feeling bad about it.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
April had caught the girl trying to copy off of her paper, which seemed absurd because all they were doing was copying lines. April shook her head and was about to go back to writing in her neat handwriting, when the girl spoke up. She seemed nervous, but at the same time, was laughing at herself.
"I'm not a very good speller," she said.
April snorted and looked at her incredulously.
"You're not a good speller? There's no difficult words here, at all!" she exclaimed, pointing at her paper and holding it up, as if to make a point. She snorted again and put it back down.
"Maybe you're just brain-missing," she commented, finishing her second line and moving on to the third very swiftly.
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
Ea didn't let the cold tone of the girl get to her. She had learned that being polite to someone who was being extremely rude was often a good way to make a point. And if you didn't succeed in making a point, at least you would probably tick them off.
Even the word 'brain-missing' didn't bother Ea. She was tougher than she seemed, having lived through a childhood with nothing but accusations of her incapability to complete anything correctly.
"What is easy for one person might be difficult for another" she said, smiling slightly as she tilted her head. Her voice was calm and she seemed to be a bit amused.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
April rolled her eyes, finishing the third line with ease, and watching the girl struggle through the spelling of the first. She snorted again and pushed her paper over, letting the girl see it for a brief second. She didn't respond to the girl's sentence, but spoke anyways.
"What's your name, anyways? House?" she asked, bored. She knew they weren't allowed to talk, but perhaps if the other girl talked and got caught, it would be a rather funny scene. She knew that Ryder would cut her some slack, anyways.
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
Ea's eyes widened as she tried to catch the spelling of the words. She got the first part of the sentence scribbled down before the girl took back her paper.
Ea was determined not to let the girl get away with her sulky attitude. She tilted her head to the other side, her calm smile still on her face as she answered.
"No, my name is not House. It's Ea. Ea Maurel." she said, not letting it show that she had known perfectly well that this was not what the girl had meant.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
April roller her eyes, not laughing, and not in the least bit amused. She wrote anotherline before responded, looking at the girl only briefly.
"Your name is Ea? Fascinating name," she mumbled, realizing that almost everyone she had met at Hogwarts had strange, abnormal names. She couldn't understand why that was at all.
"Bloody idiot, I asked what house you were in," she said, ignoring the girl's attempt at turning the situation into somethig humorous. She had a feeling that Ea was in Hufflepuff, and knew she'd be right on that count.
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
Even though Ea was patient and in no mood to argue, she could feel the irritation building up inside her. However, she remained calm.
She decided to test the girl.
Since Ea was wearing no sign that she was a Hufflepuff, she spoke confidently as she said
"I'm in Slytherin if you must know"
It wasn't too unlikely that both girls were Slytherins and yet never talked before. Ea knew that she could easily pass for being a fourth year, and chances were that this girl didn't hang out with those, even if they were in the same house.
She kept her eyes on the girl, having given up on the lines altogether.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
April was taken aback, but said nothing. She didn't entirely believe the girl, and she knew she was good with detecting lies. Her father had said she would be good at legimency. However, she couldn't be too sure if the girl was lying or not. She wasn't sure how to respond.
"Hm. Really, now?" she said, interested. "Then you'd know the password, then." She was challenging the girl, of course.
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
Ea had been prepared for this when she proclaimed to be a Slytherin. She answered quickly and steadily, doing her best to make the girl believe her. She enjoyed this little game of confusion and was laughing inside.
"Why, of course I do" she said, making her best 'Slytherin' impression without it getting too much.
"But I'm not stupid enough to tell it to you so you can go in our common room with all your little Puffy friends" she said.
Since the girl wasn't wearing anything that signified her house either, Ea figured she would have some fun. She couldn't think of anything worse for a Slytherin than being confused for being a Hufflepuff. This should be fun.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
April looked resigned at this. She knew the girl was just being a smart ass now, since there was no way she could be confused for a Hufflepuff. She wished she had wore her Slytherin robes, but alas, she had decided to go designer today. Damn. She was cursing the girl to hell and back whe nshe came upon an idea.
"I'm in Slytherin, mate, but surely you would know that if you were in it too. No? Well, let's see then," she said, and looked like she was thiking about something really hard. She had just remembered something.
She pulled out a watch out of her pocket, a nice silver watch, and very expensive. On the back was her name, engraved, and on the front, the face of the clock was backed by the Slytherin serpent and crest. She smiled triumphantly.
"That should prove it. So, I'll ask again, want to give me the password?" she said, pretending to be polite. She folded her hands and blinked a few times, trying to look innocent.
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)
Ea wasn't usually rude on purpose. In fact she normally tried to be as nice as possible, but this girl was asking for it.
She wasn't impressed by the watch - this was just another prejudice come true, about how Slyths were always showing off.
She looked at the girl indifferently.
"Sure. No problem. The password is: we're-evil-and-stubborn-and-too-full-of-ourselves-to-make-real-friends-so-we-lock-ourselves-up-and-play-with-dark-magic." she said, all in one breath. She didn't mean to. It just slipped out. Ea didn't dislike Slytherins, at least not in general. In fact, some of the most interesting people she knew came from that house.
She immediately regretted having said it.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
April didn't like the girl's tone, or anything that came out of her mouth. She could see Ea's expression afterwards; immediate regret. Whether this was over losing her temper, or realizing she was in trouble, she didn't know. She was willing to curse her head off though.
"Spoken like a true, good for nothing, Hufflepuff," she spat, sliding her chair as far away from Ea as possible. She was definately an annoyance, and April already didn't like her.
"At least I have a personality interesting enough to get into a house, rather than getting stuck in the house for students no one knows what to do with."
Ea Maurel - June 12, 2008 11:12 PM (GMT)
Ea just sat there, regret all over her face. Her voice was small as she spoke.
"Don't say that" she said. Even though she had just done the same, it was as if the girl's nasty comment on her house seemed to hit harder. Perhaps, Ea thought, because it was true. What were Hufflepuffs, really? Loyal, yes, but especially talented? Not necessarily.
She felt bad, mentally as well as physically.
"I'm sorry for what I said" she said after a long moment of silence. Ea knew she would have to apologize sooner or later, and she figured sooner was preferable.
April Teagan - June 12, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
OOC: I've never written mean April before. It was easy, because I typically am like that in real life at times, lmfao.
BIC:
April was fuming, and the girl was clearly thinking deeply about something. The next line of April's assignment came out shaky, and she breathed a deep breath of air before continuing. She wrote a whole two lines before she realized that Ea had apologized to her.
April scoffered at her apology, and waved her hand in dismissal. "Bloody stop it," she said. "Don't whine to me in that little voice."
April sighed and wrote a few more lines, not really feeling bad. She didn't really feel anything right now, except slight anger and a craving for strawberries.
"My name is April," she finally said.
Ea Maurel - June 13, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
OOC: Lol, I always imagined her secretly mean, though. And heh - 'a craving for starwberries'. I love random cravings.
IC:
Ea had started to believe the girl was going to ignore her apology altogether, and the girl's comment on Ea's voice wasn't exactly friendly. Ea didn't speak like she did on purpose. It was just the way she was.
As April told Ea her name, however, Ea's frown turned into a small smile.
"April.. that's nice" she said, not the slightest hint of sarcasm in her voice, she was merely speaking her mind.
"Is it because you were born in that month?" she asked, curiously, as she placed her pen and quill on the professor's table. She knew that she would get in trouble for not writing the lines, but she didn't have the patience to deal with them right now.
April Teagan - June 13, 2008 06:46 PM (GMT)
April hmmed at the girl silently for a moment ,clicking her tongue against her teeth and trying to concentrate on hers lines. She had a feeling ,however, that there would be no escaping Ea the entire detention, and she might as well get this over with.
"No, I'm not born in April. October, actually," she answered, as if the girl should know this. She knew she had no reason to, but she wasn't particularly in the mood for anything right now.
"My mother just liked the name, that's all. Did your mother like to eat, and perhaps forget to write the T on the birth certificate?"
