Title: Best Song of All Time

Finnigan Tatupu - June 14, 2008 06:41 PM (GMT)
What is your favorite song of all time? Does it have some kind of special meaning to you? Do you like the lyrics or the melody?

AJ Vitcav - June 14, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
Hmm, this is a tough one...

Since I review music and basically make it my life I'll probably end up with a lot...

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana: Defined the 90's got me into music basically

Here Comes the Sun - Beatles: Amazing bass line (I play bass) but I feel the Beatles are a little overrated... :) but still are good

Local bands from AZ I listen to:
Awake & Alert ( myspace.com/awakeandalert )
What Laura Says Thinks and Feels ( myspace.com/whatlaurasaysthinksandfeels )
Coats and Villa ( myspace.com/coatsandvilla )
Dear and the Headlights ( myspace.com/dearandtheheadlights )

So many more local bands deserve to be listed...

I love Kanye West and Jay-Z as well. And Coldplay would have to be listed.

I know I didn't post songs, but I think this will do.

Melanie Hunter - June 14, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
Hmm...I really can't say for sure what my favorite is, but I have a lot that I love supremely. lol.

Superstar- Jesus Christ Superstar: It's a classic Broadway piece that is basically epic. It makes me excited every time I hear it, which any good song should do in my opinion. It has so much going on at one time with amazing orchestrations and it's extremely haunting when you think about the lyrics and how they play into the show.

Louder than Words- Tick, Tick...BOOM!: Wonderful meaning, wonderful composition. Altogether amazing.

It's Your Wedding Day- Wedding Singer: It's fun to dance to. lol.

Heaven on their Minds- Jesus Christ Superstar: Chilling, great music in the backround, the lyrics are haunting, amazing vocals if you have the right singer. It's so cool. Like...people say that Phantom is Webber's best show...I disagree. It has to be Jesus Christ Superstar.

I'll Make a Man out of You- Mulan; Shut up, I know, Mulan is probably the stupidest Disney Movie EVER written and this song is also a little bit stupid, but I love it. My reasons why it is an awesome song;

1) It's Disney, guys.
2) The music is awesome. Yay for orchestras. lol. It's a nice mix between like...traditional Chinese music, musical theatre, and...war sorta stuff. lol.
3) Great vocals.
4) Lea Salogna, guys. She is like...omg I love her. lol. Most of you probably don't know her, but she's done shows like Miss Saigon and Les Mis. She's the voice of Mulan.
5) HARVEY FIERSTEIN, THE HAIRY FRUIT! lol. Don't ask, I have a strange love for this guy. I hate his voice, but I still think he's kinda awesome. lol. He's like...the fruitiest guy on broadway with possibly the most butch "I've smoked two packs a day for my entire life" voice ever. lol.
6) I LOVE THE ACAPELLA PART. END OF STORY.
7) I adore the bass notes. lol.

One Jump Ahead- Aladdin: I love Aladdin's voice and the music is so fun. :) It's so fun to sing, too. lol.

Being Alive- Company: It's only on my list when Raul Esparza sings it. The lyrics are so...omg I love them. It's a classic Sondheim piece. Mix that with Raul Esparza's voice and you have perfection.

Lost in the Wilderness- Children of Eden: Everything about this song is perfect. End. Of. Discussion.

Johanna- Sweeney Todd: This is one of those songs that has such amazingly gorgeous music and vocals, but when you listen to the words...you're just like "HOLY S*IT HE'S A fr***en STALKER!" Still, at the same time, the lyrics are chilling.

Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat- Guys and Dolls: This song is so fun. lol.

The Phantom of the Opera- The Phantom of the Opera: Duh. No explanation necessary.

Music of the Night- Phantom of the Opera- Again, not necessary for explanation.

My Unfortunate Erection/Chip's Lament- 25h....Spelling Bee: This song is HlLARIOUS, and it is on the list for that reason alone. Oh, and because when they did this show when I saw it, they threw candy at us and we got to eat it. lol.

With a Little Help From my Friends- Across the Universe: Only this version, I don't care for the original as much. I just love the guitar part, and both of them have amazing voices. It's fun. lol.

Dear Prudence- Across the Universe: Again, only this version. The original makes my brain hurt a little bit. I love all of their voices and the part where they chant "Look around" makes me die forever and ever. lol. It's especially great in combo with the movie. lol.

Happiness is a Warm Gun- The Beatles/AtU: I love both versions of this, but the AtU version is better, in my opinion. I adore Joe Anderson's voice so much. It's such a creepy song, but at the same time it's awesome for some reason....

Hey Jude- Any version: Any version of this song rocks my world. I love the words and the calming music. It's an instant make-me-happy song.

Overture/All That Jazz- Chicago: The music makes me pee. lol. But it has to be the WHOLE song for me to REALLY favoritize it. lol. It's an alltogether fun song.

Wannabe- Spice Girls: No joke, this song is just fun. lol. Fun to reminisce. lol. It's such a classic 90s song. lol.

A Thousand Miles- Vanessa Carlton; i don't really know why, I just love this song. lol.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl- Jet: It's so much fun to dance to. lol. The music is just like...you have to dance. lol.

Danse Macabre- Saint-Saens: It's a beautiful, chilling piece. I'm also slightly attached because we used this music in The Crucible for the dance in the woods....It's pure violin genius.

We Beseech Thee- Godspell: Haha, it's funnnnnnn.

The Nicest Kids in Town- Hairspray: It's fun to dance and sing and it's funny. Let's just ignore the fact that it's actually trying to show how racist and stupid Baltimore was (and still is) in the 1960s.

You Can't Stop the Beat- Hairspray: This song actually makes me cry when I see it on stage. lol. I love the message it sends, and the music. It's altogether fabulous. It's about not letting anything stop you from being who you are and doing what you want to do. The part that makes me cry is whenever Edna comes out towards the end and wearing a dress that she made herself and proudly says it to the camera. I don't know why that makes me so happily sad. Probably because she's been dreaming of it her whole life but people have always told her that it can't happen or have made fun of her and everything and then she gets on TV and struts her stuff. I cry. A lot. lol. By the end of the song I'm just bawling because everyone's together, both black and white, and they're happy and...I get sad. lol.

Do You Hear the People Sing- Les Mis: Self-Explanatory if you know the song at all.

One Day More- Les Mis: Again...no explanation needed. It's just epic and beautiful.

On My Own- Les Mis: See previous Les Mis explanations.

Finale- Les Mis: It can sucessfully make me cry every time I hear it.

I Dreamed a Dream- Les Mis: Again....

Prologue- Little Shop of Horrors: It's funnnn. lol.

Come What May- Moulin Rouge: This song...is like, the ultimate love song. It's so relaxing and sweet. I love it much.

Christmas Bells- RENT: I know, it's like...the most random song to put on this list, but I love the part when everyone is singing in parts at the end. It's such an epic broadway show moment.

Finale B- RENT: No explanation necessary.

I'll Cover You- RENT: Both the reprise and the regular version. It's so sweet and the reprise makes me SOB!

The B*tch of Living- Spring Awakening: Augh, pure amazingness, pure truth of the teenage mind. The guitar part makes me die, the vocals are love.

Those You've Known- Spring Awakening: Makes me cry. So pretty...I love all of their voices so much. I especially love when they go into parts.

Here Comes the Sun- The Beatles: Ahhhh so relaxing.

Prologue- West Side Story: More Sondheim brilliance. It's just...awesome orchestrations.

Defying Gravity- Wicked: Mmm, it's highly over rated, but this is pure Stephen Schwartz, Kristen Cheoweth, and Idina Menzel LOVE. And it's pretty inspiring if you ask me.

No Good Deed- Wicked: Just...love. Love love love love love. So haunting....

So Much Better- Legally Blonde: It's the story of my life. lol. It's funny, and it's fun, and Laura Bell Bundy rocks. lol. That last note is EPICNESS. :P

Wow...this is a REALLY long list. lol.

Okay. I'm WAY too lazy to type all the songs out.
Technically, these would be my cousins favorites AND my favorites... and I have to be carefull what I put on there 'cause she 13 and so on.

Roby/Andee's playlist

The first song, is MINE! The miley cyrus ones... eh not so much.

A song that's NOT on there that I love love love would be Hero By Superchic[K]
No one sits with him, he doesn't fit in
But we feel like we do when we make fun of him
Cause you want to belong, do you go along?
Cause his pain is the price paid for you to belong
It's not like you hate him or want him to die
But maybe he goes home and thinks suicide
Or he comes back to school with a gun at his side
And a kindness from you might have saved his life
Heroes are made when you make a choice

[Chorus:]
You could be a hero - heroes do what's right
You could be a hero - you might save a life
You could be a hero- you could join the fight
For what's right, for what's right, for what's right

No one talks to her, she feels so alone
She's in too much pain to survive on her own
The hurt she can't handle overflows to a knife
She writes on her arm and wants to give up her life
Each day she goes on is a day that she's brave
Fighting the lie that giving up is the way
Each moment of courage her on life she saves
When she throws the pills out a hero is made
Heroes are made when you make a choice

[Chorus]

No one talks to him about how he lives
He thinks that the choices he makes are just his
Doesn't know he's the leader with the way he behaves
And others will follow the choices he's made
He lives on the edge, he's old enough to decide
His brother who wants to be him is just nine
He can do what he wants because it's his right
The choices he makes change a nine-year-old's life

[Chorus]

It's great.

Emu~ for my Dear- Gackt: A beautiful song that never fails to have me in tears.

Orenji No Taiyou- Gackt and Hyde: What's this you say, a duet where the singer's voices actually fit together?? my god tis the end of the universe!

Last Song-Gackt/ Doomsday-Gackt/ Secret Garden- Gackt/ Mind Forset-Gackt/ Lust For Blood- Gackt: Gackt's voice, Gackt's music and Gackt's lyrics, nothing else can be said.

Vanilla- Gackt: Sexy, perverted song with a kick-ass beat.

Le Ciel- Malice Mizer: The first single Gackt wrote both the lyrics and the music for.

Hoshi No Suna (Star Dust)-Gackt: Gackt cries, I break down

Lu:Na- Gackt: the song itself is good, but the fact it's live performance is an on-stage martial arts fight makes it even better.

U+K-Gackt: NYAN NYAN!

Dears- Cute song, dedicated to the fans.

Redemption- Gackt: Vincent Valentine's thoughts written by Gackt Camui, it's angsty, sexy bishounen overload.

Love Letter- Gackt: it's pretty, and sweet, and fluffy without Gackt's usual angst.

12gatsu no love song/December Love Song- Gackt: Gackt proving that he pwns at 4 languages and sounding damn sexy in Korean.

Cube-Gackt: The first Gackt song I ever heard.

Mirror- Gackt: Gackt refers to God as female :D

Gardenia-Malice Mizer: because Klaha's voice kicks ass.

Art of Life- X-Japan: 34 minutes long and completly mind-blowing.

Tears- X-Japan: it's sad, angsty and beautiful, exactly what Yoshiki does best.

Dahlia-X-Japan/ WEEKEND- X-Japan/ Celebration- X-Japan : Songs that proove why X rock so much!

IV- X-Japan: X's first new single after a 10-year breakup and the death of their lead guitarist, it kicks ass.

X- X-Japan: The song that every X fan knows by heart, it's been known to cause mini-'earthquakes' during X's Tokyodome live shows, thanks to 60,000-odd people all jumping at once on the final "X!!!"

Pink Spider- hide: the last song hide released before he died, and his nickname. A kickass rock song that always gets everyone dancing at Jrock parties.

Ai Sensei (Soldiers of Sorrow): I don't know who originally did this song but it's very sad, and fits well with Gundam.

Unpretty- TLC: because so many girls today need to hear this song.

Gimme Danger- Iggy Pop: Mostly because I adore Ewan Mcgregor's cover version of it in Velvet Goldmine.

Affirmation- Savage Garden/ Crash and Burn- Savage Garden/ Love Can Move You- Savage Garden/ Violet- Savage Garden- songs that always cheer me up.

Void- Darren Hayes/ Pop!ular- Darren Hayes/ Gunning Down Romance- Savage Garden/ Two Beds and a Coffee Machine- Savage Garden/ Unloveable- Darren Hayes- My faverouties cynical, angsty Hayes songs, always make me giggle when people refer to Savage Garden as "sugar-coated"

I could go on for a while ^^; but finally:

Kono Daremo Inai Heya De- Gackt: nice enough song, but watching Gackt at a concert, in the middle of the audience singing both a capella and without a microphone is just amazing.

Lyrics for Lovestory

I think it was the summertime
When I laid eyes on you
I didn't even know your name
Somehow we'd end up in the same room
It never crossed my mind
I never saw you like that
I should've listened to my best friend
She knew it would be a perfect match

[Chorus:]
It's a typical love story
Started out as friends
We met way back when
This is just a typical love story
The boy you never wanted just steals your heart
I never saw it comin' 'til I fell so hard

I always made up some excuse
Saying you that weren't my type
Didn't want to face the truth
Didn't want to cross that line
'til one day I saw you
Out of the corner of my eye
You were flirting with some girl
And inside I thought I would die

:'( lols. Those are the lyrics that apply to me. I'm still waiting for the happy ending part. But I'll get it. hahaha
