Title: A Starless, Sleepless night

Jenna Wright - June 15, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
Unable to sleep, Jenna had creeped her way through the castle to the Astronomy Tower in hopes of not only forgetting her boredom but also with hopes of finding a clear, starry sky. She'd tossed and turned in the girls dorm for hours but had eventually given up. Leaving as quietly as she could, she slipped on her slippers and made her way to the only place she could think of. She was clad in black and white checkered boxer shorts and a rather big hoodie that sported the local football (soccer) team. Her hair was down, but in somewhat of a mess, of course she hadn't bothered fixing it considering that she figured that she would come across anyone. It was a chilly night and her bare legs were cold, perhaps she should've staye din the common room by the cozy fire....

After lumbering up the staircase Jen's breathing was somewhat ragged, which was to be expected after a climb like that. Making it into the room, she smiled, relieved, knowing that she was safe from being caught at this point. Curling up on the windowsill, Jen gazed out the window. It was a cloudy night and there wasn't a star in sight. She sighed, somewhat frustrated. But it was still better than tossing and turning in the girls common room. Looking up, she saw the moon had illuminated a small patch in the clouds. It looked somewhat haunting, the moon almost visible through the thin patch of clouds. Leaning her head against the window, Jen closed her eyes and let out a long, soft sigh. It was going to be a long night.

A sleepless night was a wellknown thing for Zeke. His restlessness usually peaked at night and with his casual attitude towards rules and regulations, nightly wanderings weren't seldom.

On this particular night, however, he had a destination in mind when he had left the Ravenclaw common room. The moon was particularly beautiful and Zeke had brought his sketchbook and a few pencils along, hoping to be able to catch the beauty of the moonlight. He was getting quite comfortable, having brought both cookies, lemonade and hard candies along with him. He was dressed in sweatpants and an open shirt. The night was rather warm and Zeke enjoyed the breeze.

He had placed himself in a windowsill pretty much behind the door and had been sketching for a while when someone opened the door and entered the tower. Zeke gave a small, soundless jump of surprise. He was convinced that he had finally been caught out of bed by a professor and was already thinking of possible explanations, when he realised that the person who was entering certainly was not a professor, but a fellow student.

As it deemed to Zeke who this student was, however, a small jolt ran through him. It was Jenna, the Jenna that he had secretly been longing to get to know better for quite a while now.
Zeke watched quietly as Jenna too placed herself in a windowsill. He wasn't sure how to approach her, since he did not want to scare her. Then again, he couldn't just sit there watching her, though that seemed like the easiest thing to do.

Zeke got up and walked towards her, with bouncy steps. He felt relaxed, and was actually rather pleased to have company.

"Hey, you. Don't be scared - it's me, Zeke?" he said casually, as he desperately hoped she recognized him. They had had some conversations, but he figured a person like Jenna would have so many friends, perhaps she wouldn't remember him.

"Sleepless too, eh?" he asked as he glanced at her, then leaned against the window sill, his eyes on the moon.

Jenna was in her own world of thoughts. Her mind filled with what would happen at the end of the school term. She would be thrown into a world she wasn't sure she would be able to manage in. She didn't even know what she was going to do yet. Talk about leaving everything to the last minute. She was frustrated; she knew she should have some plan, something, that would help her start off, but unlike everyone else, Jen was planless.

For the first time in her life, Jen was heading into something alone. The independent, persistant girl was scared for the first time. It was understandable though. All her life she'd lived under rules, obeyed her parents, gone to school. And now that was over and she was starting something new. It was a lot to take in really. Needless to say, she wasn't used to feeling like this. It didn't exactly help that people kept asking that same question, 'so you're a seventh year right? What are you doing after Hogwarts then?'

Of course, being so deep in thought makes it easy to forget one's surrounding. So when she heard the voice of another student, Jenna couldn't help but jump in surprise. Even the voice cautioned to not be scared, her immediate thought was that she had been caught by a professor, though his words quickly surpressed her worry.

"Oh gosh, sorry, you scared me. I thought you were a professor for a moment," She smiled realizing that the supposed professor was just Zeke. "Yup, another sleepless night. Too many thoughts for brain to rest."

Jen smiled, Zeke was a nice guy, though she'd only met him a few times before. She was sure he was friends with AJ. She stifled a yawn, she was exhausted really, but completely unable to sleep for some reason. She blamed the thoughts that filled her mind, filling her with worry on top of that.
