Title: A break by the lake

Saoirse Scarborough - June 17, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)
Saoirse had been running for what seemed like hours. But, since she ran so often, she knew she had probably only ran about five miles. She wanted to run at least ten before heading back to the Hufflepuff common room.

She tried to speed up a bit, but was just too tired. Why was she so tired after only half of her run? It really began to annoy her. She began to slow down as she ran by the lake. She really wanted to take a break, and what place was better than by the calm water?

Saoirse finally made up her mind, and stopped by a large boulder that was on the shore. She stayed standing up, put her hands on her head and breathed in and out deeply. She finally sat on the rock and closed her eyes while continuing to catch her breath.

April had been hanging out by the lake, a book in her hand, and had been reading. The trees made good things to lean against, and besides, the lake was really calming. It was nice out today, the wind blowing gently, and the sun bright. She had decided to take a break from everyone inside and just read and relax.

She had been reading a good novel, something by Shakespeare, when she looked up. She didn't know how she hadn't noticed it until now, but there was a girl jogging. She didn't know her at all, and she couldn't comprehend why she would just be... running back and forth.

The girl suddenly stopped, resting on the other side of the lake. April stood up, closing her book, and started striding over. She put the book in her robes pocket as she walked, and hummed a little. She tried to seem casual. when she reached the gitl, she leaned against a large rock.

"What were you running for?" she asked, curiously. She cocked her head to the side. "You look really tired."

Saoirse continued to catch her breath for a few minutes. She finally started to feel better after the short rest.

She was somewhat startled when she opened her eyes to find a girl in Slytherin robes walking toward her. The girl then asked her a question about why she was running. Saoirse thought about it, not many students, or professors for that matter, ran at Hogwarts for fun. She wondered why that was.

“Well, I just run for fun. It kind of keeps me sane, so my brain doesn’t explode. Don’t most people have something like that?”

Saoirse felt so dumb after the answer, she sounded so corny. She looked away quickly to hide her face that was turning the same color as her hair, a deep red.

April laughed. The girl was breathing very heavily; clearly out of breath. She seemed to be very in shape though, and April could see it gave her a body similar to hers; a Seeker's. April took in the girl's image for a second. She thought it was a bit weird that someone would do something so Muggle as running, but then again, all people ran.

“Well, I just run for fun. It kind of keeps me sane, so my brain doesn’t explode. Don’t most people have something like that?”

April looked at her curiously, wondering what exactly she meant. Surely, running to her was like a hobby... April could relate. She understood this concept, but it seemed like such a hard thing to do. Physically staying in shape by running had to be the most difficult way.

"Yes, I can understand that. That's quidditch for me."

She decided it would be a good idea to at least introduce herself. It'd be rude not to, and she hated talking to people who didn't know the least bit of things about her.

"I'm April Teagan, Slytherin Seeker."

Saoirse was finally completely stable. She stared at the girl as she told her what her main interest was.

Saoirse was, in fact, a pure blood. But, she was taught to live like a muggle since she lived in a mostly muggle populate area. This was probably why she had adopted many muggle habits, such as running.

Quidditch on the other hand was a different story. Saoirse had tried Quidditch once in her life, she had utterly failed. She lost control of her broom the second she hopped on it, that’s what was expected though since no one was really trying to teach her.

Saoirse heard the girl introduce her self as, "April Teagan." Saoirse loved the name April, it was not widely used, but wasn't completely odd like her name was.

Saoirse decided to introduce herself, finally. She stood up and replied,” I’m Saoirse Scarborough, I’m a fourth year in the Hufflepuff house."

She went on, "That's amazing that you are Seeker. I've always had a desire to be able and play Quidditch, but I guess that’s just not in the cards for me."

April listened to the girl as she introduced herself. April realized that Hogwarts had a problem with odd and confusing names, but this was the first time she truly believed she wouldn't know how to spell the girl's name. She wouldn't even try. At least she had said it aloud, so April knew how to pronounce it. It was a mouthful.

"I'm just wondering, how many Firewhiskey deep was your mother when she gave you that name?" she asked, joking. She hoped the girl didn't take offense to that. "just kidding," she added quickly.

"And yeah, quidditch is great for me. I love Seeking. You don't play, then?" she asked, though it was clear the girl did not if she was running for fun. She supposed it was fun for Muggles, like that sport they played with a ball that they kicked around, but still, Quidditch beat everything.
