Professor Forsyth entered her class and looked around satisfactorily. She couldn't wait for her class to begin and arrived 20 minutes before it was to start. She walked towards her desk and put everything down next to it in a neat pile.
Forsyth took out her wand, flicking it to the board and these words appeared.
Welcome to Arithmancy! I am Professor Forsyth.
Then flicked it again:
Please get out your quill, ink and parchment.
Write:
Arithmancy is an ancient system of fortune-telling based on names and numbers. For over 2000 years, people have used arithmancy to analyze their strengths and weaknesses, overcome obstacles, and predict the future.
The name Arithmancy is derived from two Greek words – arithmos (meaning number) and manteia (meaning divination). Arithmancy is thus the study of divination through numbers.
She, then sat back down and waited for everyone to come.

Mona rushed in to class, and again, she was not late. It's not as hard as she first thought.
"Good Morning, Professor Forsyth!" she said, happily.
She sat in a desk, and took out her parchment, eagle feather quill and purple ink. Arithmancy was her most exciting subject, after all. She just had to decorate it in a more colourful way.
She took her quill and began to write:

"Good morning, Miss Woods." she greeted her. "I hope you'll enjoy Arithmancy class."
Professor Forsyth smiled at her and winked. It should be known by now, that Kirsten Forsyth was cousin to Mona Woods. But Professor Forsyth had sworn not to spoil her and treat her just like everyone else.

Emily walked in to the class and sighed. It was going to be another boring school year. Emily looked over at the new teacher she seems peppy. "Morning Professor" Emily said. Emily sat down in a set down the back of the classroom. Emily only decided to take this class because there wasn't divination at the school, so Arithmany was the closest thing. It would help her better her seering powers atleast. Emily wrote..

Emily looked up at the teacher and said "My holidays were a bit boring. Played pranks on my friends silings. Got used to my new house. How were your holidays professor?"

"I travelled to New York for two weeks, it was fantastic." Professor Forsyth said. "My holidays was lovely. You should get out more. Maybe I can take you somewhere next holiday season."
She smiled at her.

Valentina hopped into the classroom, feeling happier than ever.
"Good mornin'!" She said politely but energeticly, sitting down on a chair and getting her stuff out.
She copied in a neat handwriting the intoduction her professor had written down.
Then, she pulled her hand up, and asked in an excited voice:
"is it hard? Arithmacy, I mean?..."

"Well, good morning, Miss Greysoul." Professor Forsyth replied. "I guess, it can be, but it is quite easy when you get the hang of it. You've got to learn and understand it, Miss Greysoul. Not just writing it down."
She looked around the classroomm, then to her watch. 15 minutes left. ((OOC: I'll wait until sunday afternoon, +10 GMT.))

AJ walked into Arithmancy, a subject he was always interested in. Sitting down in a semi-full classroom he looked around noticing some people, but never had seen others in his life.
The board said to copy down a passage, which he thought was a good warm up for the first lesson.
After copying it down, he opened his book and began reading it, only looking up to see who was walking in.

Robyn came into the class room, her hair unusually out of it's pony tail (unusual for last year, that it) and thick blonde waves fell down her back, she looked prettier than she used to. She was tanner, wore a bit of makeup (Her Auntie Lulu had insisted... despitefully) and only had a small lip stud in her lip. Robyn brushed some hair out of her face allowing her blue eyes to scan the room.
Three people she knew were here. She wanted to sit next to one of them. Valentina was a bit... more hyper than Robyn needed today, Emily... well Robyn was terrified she would learn about Robyn's past, and then Andrej. Nothing wrong with him, Robyn supposed. And so Robyn silently sat next to him. She pulled out her dark purple in and a gold quill and carefully wrote down the paragraph.

When Robyn was done she glanced at Andrej, "Hiya." She said simply, then pulled out a notebook and doodled, waiting for the rest of the class to come.

Professor Forsyth looked around the room, and saw only five people in the room.
Well.. looks like only a few students are interested in Arithmancy, she thought disappointedly.
Class had begun.
"Good morning, class! As you'll know if you had read the board, I'm Professor Forsyth." She said. "You'll also know the contents of the paragraphs I have written on the board. Can anyone tell me, what is arithmancy?"
She looked around the room.

Lily-Ann ran to the classroom, and skidded to a stop as she opened the door.
"I'm so so sorry I'm late. I'm normally not I swear, I lost track of time in the library." Lily-Ann explained, and sat next to a girl she didn't know, Valentina. Lily-Ann carefully wrote what was on the board, and patiently waited to see if she would be in any trouble.

Emily nodded and said "Yeah that sounds like a great idea Miss." Emily's new professor didn't seem as bed as she thought she would be.
A few minutes later the professor asked a question to the class. Emily's hand shot straight up. She new the answer, Emily's grandmother who was also a seer had taught Emily a lot about divination. Arithmancy was one of them.
Emily said "Arithmancy is a way people have used to analyze their strengths and weaknesses, overcome obstacles, and predict the future by numbers." Emily was happy with her answer, she hoped the teacher would also.

"Miss Pace!." Professor Forsyth said. " Well, hello. Please sit down and write what is on the board. Today, I'll let you off, but next time if you are late, you will have landed yourself in detention."
"That is correct, Miss Fall, but I would have preferred it if you had put it in your own words." Professor Forsyth said. "Now, I'll explain the basics of arithmancy."
She flicked her wand at the board.

Solana walked into class, very suprisingly, late. She was never late to anything. Ever.
"Sorry I'm late Professor," she said, giving the new teacher a small smile.
She took a seat and quickly copied what was on the board, catching up on what she had missed.

"Oh!" she said frustratedly as yet another student was late. "You're just lucky I'm in a good mood today, Miss Lilly! Any other person who comes in late today will recieve a detention!"
Professor Forsyth straightened up and returned to her class.
"So, does anyone know what we do from here?" she asked. "No? Alright, then.
After this, we begin to add up all the numbers. Now, can anyone tell me the answer? Or shall I have to answer it?" She waited.

Lily-Ann raised her hand, "Um, well the word Kritsen adds up to 33 and Forsyth is um" Lily-Ann calculated it in her head quickly, "39? And they both make 72..." Lily-Ann usually had to do it on paper, so she wouldn't be surprised if she got it wrong. It was a close, if anything.

"That is correct, Miss Pace." she said, returning from her snappish manner back to her usual calm self. "Now, 72 can be reduced to 9. Does anyone know how that came to be?"

Robyn shrugged and raised a hand, "You divided it eight?" She didn't know why it was divided by 8, she never really got this class, but she did know math, it was her best subject back at the muggle schools.

"Good theory, though, not very correct." she said. "To reduce a two-digit number to a one-digit number, we must plus the tens number to the ones number. In this case, 7+2, which makes the one-digit number equal to 9."
She looked around at everyone to make sure they understood what she had just told them.
"The reduced number can then be sorted into certain categories." she said. "There are three types of numbers, can anyone tell me the names of them?"

"Clever..." she muttered, takeing notes of everything she said.
Then, she stopped dead when the professor asked the question.
three types of numbers?... She thoughted, lifting up her quill and ready to copy everything down.

Zackery opened the room's door in a rush, red in the face, with his bag over his shoulder and his wand pocking out from the cloack's pocket.
"Morning, Professor Forsyth!" He said. While entering the classroom, he smacked his head against the door's frame.
"OUCH!... Oh, here's a note from Madam Prince!" He handed a note over and went to sit over by a Slytherin girl.
On the note was an excuse why Zackery was late:
Miss Forsyth,
the studen Zackery Firefeather is late to class because he stayed behind to help me clear up. Please take this in consideration. Madam Prince
Zackery didn't want to be late for this class, but the Librarian had ordered him to stay.

"Mr Firefeather." she sighed. "Sit down. I'll find out if this is an authentic letter. But, for now, you can relax. Get out your quill and start copying Valentina's notes."
"No one again?" Professor Forsyth said gloomily. "Doesn't anyone have a clue what Arithmancy is? Well, there are three types of numbers. The Character number which indicates the general personality type of the individual, the Heart number which epresents the individual's inner life and can indicate desires and fears hidden from others and the Social number which represents the outer personality, the face an individual shows to the outside world.
The character number is the reduced number of all the letters, the heart number, is the reduced number of all the vowels and the social number is the reduced number of all the consonants. We will learn on what the numbers mean next lesson. Now, I hope everyone understood that.
Your homework is to write a half-foot long essay (at least two paragraphs.) on how arithmancy works. It is to be handed in by next week. Any person who hands this essay late will have a detention. Any questions?"
