Title: A Private Lesson
Description: Becs
April Teagan - June 22, 2008 03:11 AM (GMT)
April grabbed her Firebolt and set off for the pitch. It was a cool, windy day, but still well for flying. She was going to teach her Hufflepuff friend Rebecca how to become a Chaser today. They hoped to do so before the Hufflepuff tryouts, since she wanted a spot.
April reached the pitch in good time by walking, and saw that Rebecca wasn;t there yet. She sat on the bleachers and began thinking of ways to begin to teach her. She got up, crossed the pitch, and broke into the shed where the balls were held. She grabbed a quaffle and headed back.
She saw that Rebecca had arrived.
"Hey!" she called out. "Got a ball!"
Rebecca Emery - June 22, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
Rebecca headed toward the Quidditch pitch Nimbus in hand. Today was the first day of her lessons with April. She was extremely excited, yet nervous at the same time. One reason why was because she thought of how silly or idiotic she might look playing the game and two because this was going to be the first time since last year she’d be seeing April. The reason this caused her to be nervous was well her new appearance. Everyone at first acted a little weird around her, not sure what to do and Rebecca had to admit that it made her feel very uncomfortable. Nevertheless she knew down deep April would be different, at least she hoped.
Smiling at her thoughts Rebecca continued to walk along the Hogwarts grounds and to the Quidditch pitch where she assumed April already was. Today she was dressed in jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt. It was a little windy outside and not to mention chilly and she knew it was always a good thing to dress accordingly to the weather. As these thoughts ended she noticed she’d finally made it to the pitch and letting her blue eyes look around she notified April coming towards her. Smiling as she heard the girl exclaim, Rebecca briefly wondered if the girl had even noticed her now womanly/more feminine appearance. If the Slytherin girl did or not she hadn’t commented on it yet.
“Hey April!” Rebecca announced as she continued forward making her way to her friend. When she finally was within a foot of distance she spoke again. “So before we even start I have to ask….how was your summer?” Smiling as she said this Rebecca waited not only for April’s answer but reaction to her appearance now that she was closer up.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 12:25 AM (GMT)
April smiled warmly as Rebecca walked closer, her Nimbus clutched firmly in her grasp. She seedm ready to play quidditch, which was really important. She had a smile playing upon her face, and April was ready to do a little showing off and a lot of teaching. April clenched her fists and waved hello.
The first thing she noticed was that Rebecca looked a little different. Older maybe, more mature. Finally grew up, April supposed. They way she held herself was different too; perhaps she felt a lot bettwen about herself, being older now. April smirked.
"My summer was great, thanks. How about yours? You look different, but in a good way. Grew up a little, did we?" she asked, laughing. She knew Rebecca was looking for a bit of attention. April knew she would be too.
Rebecca Emery - June 23, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
As Rebecca watched April smile hers warm and inviting Rebecca couldn’t be more than glad to know their friendship didn’t seem to waver over the summer. Of course they didn’t speak hardly but still it was nice to know the girl still thought fondly of her. She waved back as she made her way over and asked the question about the girl’s summer. Upon watching April smirk and hearing the girl’s answer made her blush slightly yet laugh.
“That’s good to know, I’m glad to hear you had a good summer. I did also, though it was pretty boring I have to admit.” Pausing for a moment Rebecca shrugged at her words before going on. “And yes I did grow up….a big surprise, not to mention a big change for me. An awkward change to say the least.” Smiling a little at her words Rebecca glanced around the Quidditch pitch before asking, “So teacher, what’s first?”
OOC: Sorry so short.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)
"Not awkward at all," April said, laughing.
She looked over the quidditch pitch, and then at the sky. It was actually a perfect day for quidditch, and she was glad that she had chose today to teach Rebecca her first Chasing lesson. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, and then opened them and focused on Rebecca, who looked ready.
"Alright. Why don't you hop on that broom, fly around a little, and get warmed up."
April mounted her broom as well, taking off right as she finished talking. She felt the air fly through her strands of hair, and billow out her claok. She flew low and threw her cloak on the ground, now just riding in light quidditch robes. She felt so alive. She let go and flew no handed, feeling high on life.
Rebecca Emery - June 23, 2008 07:40 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca heard April’s reply about it being no awkward at all Rebecca just laughed. To some one like her it was. Especially with all the attention it was bringing. Of course she was used to attention, but not the new kind she was getting. After all she’d always been the sweet Hufflepuff girl and nothing more. Though now her title had changed, big time.
Shaking her thoughts at this point she watched as April took in the pitch then close her eyes and take a deep breathe. Once this task was finished April looked to her and before Rebecca knew it she was off and flying. Watching the girl made Rebecca smile brightly. It seemed this was an extreme enjoyment for April. Flying was apart of her, just like most Quidditch players. Part of Rebecca couldn’t help but wonder if it would be the same for her. Of course she loved flying, but it wasn’t apart of her soul just yet, so to say.
As these thoughts entered her mind Rebecca mounted her Nimbus and set off. It was nice to be back on a broom and flying. Of course she’d practiced in the summer like April told her, though it wasn’t as much as she and her friend would like. Nevertheless Rebecca got the feel of the broom and flying quite quickly. Almost instantly she was flying around the pitch in circles flipping here and there, making a dive over by a set of the goal posts, and testing out her brakes once or twice. It must have been about ten minutes or so before Rebecca made it back to where April had laid the quaffle on the ground. Looking up and around here she frowned slightly when she didn’t find April.
Pivoting she heard herself call out, “Hey April! I’m ready wherever you are!”
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
April enjoyed flying so very much, and was taking full advantage of the beautiful weather. She did a few quick laps around the pitch, which took barely two minutes, and dived around all over. Deciding that Rebecca would be alright for just a moment alone, she soared over the lake and the greenhouses. Students looked up in awe at her Firebolt, gaping, smiling, laughing, and even some waving.
The attention she recieved from being a good flier, as well as a Seeker, was tremendous. The addition of the Firebolt to this combination was also a plus, and a major factor. April smirked as she rounded a few trees, looped around the greenhouses, and headed abck to the pitch. She could hear Rebecca calling.
She went into a huge spiraling dive and jumped off a few feet from the ground, planting herself directly next to the quaffe. Rebecca was hovering a few feet above it. April smiled at the girl and picked up the quaffle, remounted her broom and sailed into the air.
"Alright, all warmed up?" she asked, but waited for no answer. "Better be. So, let me just make sure. You know all the rules of the game, correct? All the positions, and what you as a Chaser should be doing?"
Rebecca Emery - June 23, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca kept on turning around, her blue eyes searching the sky and ground for April she suddenly smiled when she saw the girl coming from the grounds and lake. Part of Rebecca though she should have known that’s what April had done. Probably gone to show off, she thought to herself amused while she hovered a foot or two above the ground near the quaffle. As April came toward her and dismounted and grabbed the quaffle she listened to what the girl asked next.
Did she know everything? Was she sure she did? Frowning slightly Rebecca knew she’d watched the game many times, but she couldn’t so sure she remembered every exact thing. Which of course wasn’t a good thing. Trailing out of her thoughts at this point Rebecca moved higher in the air closer to April before she began to speak.
“Well I have watched all the games and I believe I know everything you’ve just asked me but as usual I can’t be sure.” Pausing for a moment she bit her bottom lip before asking, “Do you think we could go over it once?”
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 10:13 PM (GMT)
April smirked, knowing that Rebecca must be second guessing herself tremendously. But, April knew, if you knew all the rules and possible scenarios for everything, there would be no room for mistakes or failure. This was very important in quidditch; to know what everyone on your team was doing at all times.
"Sure thing," April said easily, and got off her broom. It'd be a lot easier to do this on the ground, after all. She motioned for Rebecca to do the same, and then faced her once she had landed.
"Alright. You know there's 7 players. You're only concerned with 6 of them. Don't worry about the Seeker pretty much at all, since they're sort of off in thier own world. Just don't crash into them."
April took a deep breath, then continued.
"It's important to remember that you have teammates. The Chasers must dodge and weave out of all the players and bludgers. While doing this, you must keep an eye out of the quaffle, a possible pass, a teammate in need, or an available shot. Chasers must pass the ball to each other in any means, and get it past the Keeper through one of the three hoops."
April pointed to the three golden hoops, high in the air.
"Beware of bludgers, who will do anything in thier path to stop you. If you get hit by a bludger, there's no way you're going to be holding on to the quaffle, and the other team will grab it. Also keep in mind that you can steal the ball from other Chasers. That's called tackling. A lot of players play pretty dirty, so be aware of players trying to tackle you as well."
"Have you got everything?" April asked confidently, throwing the quaffle up in the air and catching it.
Rebecca Emery - June 23, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca watched April’s reaction and her words of ‘sure thing’ she shook her head smiling just slightly. A little embarrassed. Though the embarrassment fled from her emotions and left her intent as she flew back down to the ground and dismounted her broom as April had gestured her to do so. Once she was safely on the ground she turned to April and listened to the girl explain, nodding here and there. It seemed like she had known pretty much everything April was telling her and that in turn made her smile. Almost in a proud way.
As April went on Rebecca continued to watched her friend intently taking everything in and putting it back in her mind for later use. She didn’t need to forget this after all. Once April finished and asked if she had gotten everything Rebecca automatically nodded. She had and now she was storing away in the back of her mind as she was ready to learn how to be a chaser.
“I’m ready and got everything you said stored in my mind. Though now I wonder if I even want to try for the Hufflepuff team. You Quidditch players are brutal.” Announcing this Rebecca smiled to show April she was joking. She was up for the challenge already.
April Teagan - June 24, 2008 12:17 AM (GMT)
"We are pretty brutal, I'll admit," April said, joking. It was true though, and she hoped that the Hufflepuff girl was aware of this. All quidditch players played dirty, and were totally in it to win it, no matter what. April smirked.
"Alright, if you're ready, then let's begin. You can catch a ball, yes?" she asked, and then threw the ball to Rebecca as if to test her. She caught it easily and passed it back, and was smiling. April nodded.
"We'll start on the ground, first off. You need to be able to catch one-handed, no matter what. Let's practice that first," April suggested. She had taighe a younger girl last year, and was pretty sure of how to go about it.
She tossed the ball, one handed, and hoped that Rebecca would prove to be a quick learner.
Rebecca Emery - June 24, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
Rebecca laughed as April went ahead and confirmed that pretty much all Quidditch players were brutal. Of course the thought bothered her, but not toomuch to the point of her actually thinking of not even trying out for the Hufflepuff team. She was sure after all that she would be able to handle it. Plus she never got the chance to be mean or brutal so to say so and what a better way than Quidditch? Laughing quietly at her thoughts Rebecca looked back to April who was now asking if she could catch a ball. Flashing the girl a look that obviously said ‘are you kidding me’ she almost didn’t catch the ball that was thrown at her.
“I can’t believe you asked me that April,” Rebecca announced as she threw the quaffle back to the Slytherin waiting for instructions. When she heard they’d be practicing catching the ball in the air one handed Rebecca nodded a little nervous. That would be a lot harder than just normally catching a ball especially if you were moving around at fast speeds on a broom of all things and while trying to stay on at the same time. As she mounted her broom and moved into the air with April Rebecca watched intently as she threw the ball. Watching the ball head toward her Rebecca began to reach out with both hands but quickly changed her tactics and barely grabbed the ball. Laughing a little she looked to April raising the ball in the air.
“At least I caught it!” Announcing this she tossed the ball back to April moving a little ways away from the girl ready for the next ball which would soon come her way.
April Teagan - June 25, 2008 01:06 AM (GMT)
April cheered when Rebecca managed to snag the ball, however awkwardly. She could tell that the girl initialls had trouble with it, but everyone did at first. April rotated her broom, angling for another pass, then stopped. She thought about something for a minute, and then dropped the quaffle down to the drown for a moment.
"I think we need to do one thing first. Chasers often need to be able ti ride one handed, and no-handed. I think we ought to make sure you have that down perfectly. It won't be momentarily sometimes, so we need to make sure you can control your broom no-handed at high speeds."
April demonstrated quickly, accelerating to almost the full point, nand then swung back around and stopped next to Rebecca. The Firebolt made this task pretty simple, but she knew that she was well practiced as well.
"Let's see you make an attempt," April commanded, crossing her arms.
Rebecca Emery - June 25, 2008 01:33 AM (GMT)
Rebecca couldn’t help but laugh as April cheered. She knew it wasn’t a cheer for how well she did, but that she actually caught it. Not that it mattered to her she had been happy she’d remembered she was trying to learn to catch the ball one handed and not with two. Nevertheless she turned to April, her thoughts now forgotten as the girl seemed to be throwing another pass. Rebecca raised an eyebrow in question though as she stopped suddenly and let the quaffle fall down below them on the ground. Following the ball with her blue eyes Rebecca looked back up to April when she spoke.
Hearing the girl’s words Rebecca made an oh sound with her mouth as she nodded. That definitely sounded like a smarter idea to her. After all she was sure once she got the hang of flying with one hand or none as April said, she was sure she’d be able to catch a ball with ease. Thinking these thoughts Rebecca watched April demonstrate what was expected of her. She bit her bottom lip knowing that might be a small challenge. Challenge or no though Rebecca was determined to not only try it but accomplish it.
AS April flew back beside her and commanded that she try it Rebecca laughed a smile on her face as she started to fly off, though slowly at first. “Ye Ma’am!” She called out with a solute as she flew off starting slowly at first then going faster with every time she felt comfortable. Each time she made a mistake she back tracked starting over with a slow speed only going faster when she felt comfortable. This went on for about fifteen minutes before she slowed to a stop near April. Looking to the girl she spoke.
“That wasn’t as easy as it looked I’ll tell you that.” Announcing this Rebecca let out a short laugh knowing it must have been amusing to watch.
April Teagan - June 25, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
April flew off to the side and watched as Rebecca made progress slowly, first flying slowly with one had, then faster. It became easier this way for Rebecca to progress to no hands, which April actually found to be a pretty easy jump to make. Rebecca turned up the speed after awhile, and made fewwer mistakes as the time wore on. April usually was impatient, but didn't seem so as Rebecca became a better flier, and then eventually deemed that she was done. April smiled helpfully, knowing that she did love to help people, even if they were from a different house entirely, and she was technically helping another house team.
"Yes, it's definately more difficult than good fliers such as I make it out to be," she bragged, winking to show Rebecca that she was only teasing. She flew back to retrieve the quaffle from the ground, and flew back to Rebecca.
"Alright. Now that you feel comfortable flying one-handed and no-handed, we can make a better attempt at catching and throwing. Good balance of course helps, so make sure you find your center of... well, balance, since we're sort of defying gravity."
April smirked and passed Rebecca the ball lightly with one handed, hoping that the Hufflepuff girl would catch it easier this time, and not juggle it or anything. After awhile, hse knew, it would become much easier to teach and it would seem more like two friends playing quidditch.
Rebecca Emery - July 1, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca made her way around the pitch practicing what April had told her she only came back when she'd finished her task and felt comfortable enough to go on. That in turn only took about fifteen minutes or so. A pretty darn good time to learn she thought. Even so Rebecca knew she shouldn't be surprised. She was a fast learner for the most part. And of course it helped that she'd been flying pretty much all her life. More so when she made it to Hogwarts in her first year.
Shaking her thoughts away as she stopped over by April she could only laugh at the girl's first years, rolling her eyes, though she wasn't truly annoyed or agitated. As her laughter dyed down and Rebecca watched as April fly over and grab a quaffle. Once her friend made her way back and began speaking Rebecca made sure to listen intently.
As April announced they were going to try catching again Rebecca nodded almost automatically. She knew at first it would be a little difficult, but she knew eventually she would get it. Hence once April through the ball she caught it both handed once again. Smiling just slightly Rebecca flew a little ways away and tossed the ball back to April, one handed this time.
April Teagan - July 1, 2008 09:15 PM (GMT)
"ONE HANDED!" April yelled, and then laughed to show Rebecca that she was only joking. She caught the ball that Rebecca tossed back easily with one hand, and threw it back to Rebecca.
Becca caught it clumsily this time with one hand, but smiled happily when she manged to hold onto it and not fall off of her broom, which was definately a good thing. Becca threw it back and April had to lunge for it, since it was off target, and then she tossed it back. It was a very easy going activity.
"Getting the hang out it?" she called out to Becca, who had just caught a more difficult catch.
Rebecca Emery - July 1, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca heard April yell, with amusement of course, that she needed to catch it with one hand she laughed. She yelled back to the girl telling her she knew and she did. It was just so darn hard to change something you've been doing all your life rather suddenly especially if you've been doing the same thing.
Shaking her thoughts away Rebecca tuned back into reality as April caught the ball and threw it back. As they went on in this manner after a few clumsy catches, she started to progress. Slowly but surely some would say. Smiling at her thoughts Rebecca went on to catch a difficult throw and with one hand! Throwing her hands in the air she grinned and whooped once before answering April's question and throwing the quaffle back to the girl.
"What does the last catch tell you April?" Questioning this Rebecca grinned happily then actually went ahead and answered. "Yeah I think I am. I'm not acting so clumsy anymore after all. It'll take some time to perfect it though. After all it's hard to change your ways if you know what I mean."
April Teagan - July 2, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
After what seemed like a few moments but was actually a good couple of minutes, Rebecca was improving faster than April had expected, which was always good. April was used to teaching younger students, who didn't always have the necessary motor skills required for Chasing, but Rebecca was definately on top of things. April smirked at her answer and just tossed the ball back lightly, letting Rebecca catch an easier one.
"Alrght, alright. I hate to burst your bubble, since you're doing very well, but you obviously know that no one stops and throws the ball in quidditch. You must move all the time, and sometimes quickly. I figure we should start moving slowly and throwing some easy passes to one another. Think you're ready?" she asked, ball back in her posession.
Rebecca Emery - July 2, 2008 04:43 AM (GMT)
As Rebecca said what she had, answering April’s question of if she was improving she went ahead and caught the next ball which was a lot easier then the last. Moving slightly on her broom to a more comfortable position she threw the quaffle back to April with the ease she was beginning to adopt. As they suddenly stopped Rebecca turned her attention back to April keeping her eyes trained on the girl as she spoke. She laughed suddenly at her words, but nodded knowing it was probably time to move on and progress.
“Alright I think we should. And as I said all’s you have to do is watch that last catch again to know I’m ready.” Rebecca said her tone full of amusement as she let out a smirk. Though it was small it was a first for her! Noticing this she felt her lips pull into her natural smile. I’ve been hanging out with too many Slytherins, she thought to herself amused as she began to fly off slowly, watching for the quaffle, knowing April would follow along.
April Teagan - July 2, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
"Okay then, let's get started."
Catching the smirk adorning Rebecca's features, April had to laugh out loud befor eRebecca changed it back to her sweet Hufflepuff smile. Shaking her head, she accelerated slowly to catch up with Rebecca. the two girls were flying slowly, side by side, and April was getting ready to pass the ball. However, she wanted to catch Rebecca off gaurd a bit, to get her some real game practice.
April flew off farther, and looped the ball over to Rebecca, who was flying at the same speed as her. The girl looked alarmed as the ball flew over the pitch and right towards her. A perfect pass for April, but it was hard to tell whether or not Rebecca was going to be able to snag the ball before it fell.
Rebecca Emery - July 2, 2008 10:58 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca flew off and heard April announce that they should get started she nodded in agreement as she heard April’s laugh. Instantly she assumed it was because of her smirk. Even if she couldn’t be real sure she still grinned at the girl as she watched April make her way toward her so that they were now flying side by side. Watching as they flew Rebecca made sure to keep her eyes on the quaffle, April, and where she was going. When she watched as the girl suddenly moved to throw Rebecca straightened up ready to catch, but instead April stopped and moved farther away.
Raising an eyebrow at the Slytherin’s actions Rebecca watched intently as she suddenly threw the ball from her new distance. A look of alarm flashed in her facial features as she watched it fly closer and closer. When it was close enough to notice the ball might start falling before it reached her Rebecca moved toward the ball and caught it. One handed as her other hand held on to her broom, steadying herself. It took her a moment to realize what just happened but when she did she grinned and looked over to April just as she tossed the ball back to her.
April Teagan - July 4, 2008 03:19 PM (GMT)
As April threw the ball, looping it over her shoulder to Rebecca, she could see the loop of panic and confusion sweep over Rebecca's face. She did not look pleased at this new distance, but it was up to April to put this girl in a place where she was not comfortable and teach her something new, after all. April smirked at Rebecca's hand shot up and grabbed the ball, not falling off, and the girl smiled widely. April smirked again, holding up a hand for the ball back.
Rebecca threw it back, the two still going along pretty slowly, and April grabbed it easily. She threw it back, a little harder now, and increased the speed she was going. April hated flying slowly, she felt it was a waste of the Firebolt's extreme speed.
"Speed it up!" she called out, cackling with laughter at Rebecca's facial expression. She was most likely going to murder April.
Rebecca Emery - July 7, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca watched April go ahead and catch the ball passed back to her with complete ease she frowned slightly. She had to admit she envied the girl a little though she had to keep reminding herself April had probably learned to play Quidditch at a young age when she hadn’t. Plus at least she knew how to fly. That at least gave her some advantage, didn’t it? Yes it does, she thought to herself confident that she would learn quick and soon would play with the same ease April let off.
Pushing her thoughts away for then Rebecca continued to watch April he blue eyes intent. As she watched the girl through it back she could tell the throw was a little harder. Catching it once again with no problem she hissed quietly from the sting that shot through her hand as the quaffle made contact. Her hiss was soon drowned out by April’s shot. Glancing sharply to the girl Rebecca gaped at April. Speed it up? Shaking her head she knew if it was with someone else she probably wouldn’t be getting taught this easy.
Knowing this she speed up and at April’s laugh she threw the ball to the girl with a quiet amount of force this time. Watching April and waiting for the girl to catch it she flashed her friend a sweet yet innocent smile. As if saying that it wasn’t here even though it was completely obvious it was. Oh well, she thought to herself briefly smiling, knowing it was all in good fun.
OOC: Sorry about wait!
April Teagan - July 9, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
OOC: No problem :)
BIC:
Loving the stunned expression of Rebecca's face, April was feeling a more arrogant, bragging side of her coming up. She knew it wouldn't do well to have this happen while teaching, since she tended to keep that side away from other people for the most part anyways. Smiling sheepishly, she kept up her speed, knowing that in the end, Rebecca would be that much of a better quidditch players. All she needed was a good steady push for progress.
Rebecca passed the quaffle back with quite a bit of strength towards April, and April snatched it, making it look easy, and flipped it back over to Rebecca. The game of catch progressed for a while as such, the speed staying constant for most of the time, but April's throws becoming a bit more tricky. She started doing more over the shoulder looped passes, trying to catch the Hufflepuff player off gaurd.
"How you holding up?" she asked, stalling in midair and catching the ball that Rebecca threw at her.
Rebecca Emery - July 10, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
There was no mistaking the fun April seemed to be having with this and Rebecca could only laugh at this. Most in this position might get angry, but that wasn’t in her nature to do so. If she ever did get angry though she held it back, finding it better not to express it, even though most said she should. Oh well, she thought to herself briefly as she threw the quaffle back to April with a little more force. Watching the girl catch it with ease then pass it back they continued this for awhile before April really started to get fancy with her moves.
Rebecca watched intently as April threw some over her shoulder in a loop then more backwards then sideways. Of course as the moves got harder the catching got harder also. Sometimes she had to pick up the speed and actually go to the quaffle instead of letting it come to her. Then other times she had to fly down a little or a little higher to catch it. Soon after Rebecca had to admit it was a little tiring, but of course being the determined sort she didn’t stop but continued with April pretty much catching every time she threw with mistaking by using both hands once in a while.
Soon after Rebecca threw the quaffle back and watched as April stopped in mid air and called out her voice questioning. Stopping herself Rebecca smiled at the Slytherin girl and shrugged. Realizing she might not be able to see it from that distance Rebecca spoke. “I’m holding up fairly well. Though I have to admit after awhile, repeating pretty much the same thing over and over again get’s tiring, but I’m good!” Nodding to confirm this she then thought of something and went ahead and asked April.
“So are we going to keep going with this or what?”
