Title: Starint at the water
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
John sat at the edge of the lake, a troubled expression on his face. The sun was setting and it was obvious that he had had a little to drink. His eyes a little glazed over, but it didn't take away the pain of knowing the last of your family members had been killed. He had gotten the letter this morning and had spent the afternoon drunk, which led him here. The week hadn't been the best to begin with, one of his best friends liked his girlfriend as more than a friend, and he hadn't known what to do about that, but now...he just wanted the sun to hurry up and dissapear already, and make the day end sooner.
(feels like a genius because I pressed the wrong key.)

OOC: This might be meant for someone. IF so, I'll edit my post so it disapears.

April meandered down the grounds, hands in her pockets. Today hadn't really been a good day, but she couldn't put her finger on why. She felt like she had been missing something all day long, and that left an empty feeling inside of her. She walked slowly down to the lake, where it was already dark as the trees cast thier shadows onto the surface.
The sun was setting slowly and gently, rays of red and golden light spilling over the horizon and lighting up the purple sky. April casually walked to the lake's edge, and then heard a small scuffling noise. She turned around and realized she had walked right by a boy sitting at the edge of the lake.
She recognized his face from the time in the forest with AJ, although she hd never spoken with him. He had brought AJ back to the hospital wing, and April had stayed behind... She shook her head out of the memories and sat back down next to him. She looked over; he seemed really sad.
"Are you... quite alright?" April asked lightly, seeing that he was terribly upset. His eyes were glazed over, and April had a feeling he wasn't completely sober.
"John, right?"
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
ooc: that's fine.
John looked up when he heard someone ask if he was alright., He hadn't noticed anyone else around until he had heard a voice. He recognized the girl from the trip in the forest but he couldn't place a name to her face. "Um, yeah, I'm fine... just a really bad week." he said with a sigh. "Yeah I'm John, I can't remember your name. Sorry."
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
April could feel the depressing mood around John. She felt really bad, but she didn't know how to cheer him up. Figuring he wanted to be alone, ASpril was thinking of getting up. She decided against it because she knew that maybe talking to someone could help, and besides, she could use some quiet time at the lake anyways.
"It's April," she said slowly. She didn't know John too well at all.
"I'm sorry about your week... do you want to talk about it?" she suggested, thinking that sometimes that often helped, even with a random stranger.
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 05:34 PM (GMT)
He could have sworn he had heard that he had heard that name before, but he couldn't remember who he had been talking to when it had come up. "It's the joys of relationship complications and today I found out my grandparents died," It felt a little weird to be telling a stranger about his personal problems, but it helped to talk to someone none the less.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
April wasn't too sure how to respond to that, and John had been really outspoken about it. At least he had been honest, and hadn't lied or anything. That was indeed a plus, since April was bad at guessing games but knew when people lied to her. She was silent for a long time, breathing deeply and staring out onto the cold lake.
She took out her wand and lit a small fire, placing on a patch of dirt so it wouldn't set any grass alight. The blue flames licked at nthingness but stayed burning, bright and hot with a bit of white in the center. April moved closer to them, but still kept the fire close enough to John.
"I'm sorry about your loss," she said quietly, bowing her head. "Were you terribly close to them?"
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, I've lived with them since I was ten." He said, picking a blade of grass and began to play with it as he watched the blue fire burn. "My mother and sister died in an accident when I was little and my father committed suicide a few years after that. So they're really the only family I have." He wasn't sure why He was telling her this, the only person he had told that had been Casey but she had gone through similar things.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
April had to stay silent for a few minutes, casually watching the flames steadily burn, and glancing over to catch John detsroying blades of grass. He seemed so pensieve, and off in his own world. Surprised by his openness, April was furious with herself that she led a life where nothing really went all wrong. She had nothing to share, and couldn't relate to his inner pain. Deep inside her, she wanted to remember to be grateful for that.
"I am terribly sorry. Nobody deserves such a life," she said simply, keeping her eyes fixed on him. She couldn't imagine having to suffer so much loss.
"I wish there was a way I could relate to you... However, I'm just a rich Pureblood whose been handed eveyrthing," she said, but there was a tone of regret hidden in her words. She hung her head, lifted her hand, and threw a rock far across the lake.
It made a splash and the lake went silent again.
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 10:47 PM (GMT)
"Well there isn't anything I can do about it, and you shouldn't wish for things like that, they will probably happen. It's almost funny, I was just saying how much I hate going home because it's so boring. It isn't surprising either, they were getting pretty old and reports of death eater attacks were getting pretty close to home, just thought I'd have a place to go after I graduated." He told her, it must have been the alcohol that had loosed him up enough to talk about things in such a passive manner to a stranger, or maybe it was knowing that April didn't know enough about him prior to this to have an opinion of him. Either way, it was nice to get some things out.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)
April shook her head quickly, despising when people almost sort of put the blame on themslves.
"You never could have known such a thing though, so you shouldn't feel bad. It isn't your fault, or anything like that. It's just... what the death eaters do. Is that what happened to them? Did they get...attacked?" she asked, cautiously, and her voice broke a bit.
April stared at the flames, not wanting to meet John's facial expression. Feeling bad, she sort of turned away and threw another rock. The sound of the splash and the ripples in the water clamed her enough to be able to turn back to the conversation at hand. It was a good idea to be there for John when he was in need, even if she didn't know him well.
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, i know it isn't my fault." he said, picking another blade of grass as she threw another rock into the water. " I guess that's what happened anyway, that's what the letter was hinting at. There's an older witch that lives close by, she's the one who wrote me. The joys of being muggle born." He was trying not to be bitter about things, but he just couldn't help it.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
John seemed bitter about the entire situation, but April couldn't blame him. Being muggleborn and having your grandparents killed by death eaters must be a terrible event to happen, if not just totally rare. She felt pity and remorse for John, and she normally didn't feel bad for anybody at all.
"That's terrible," she replied. "I wonder though... why did they get attack if they're Muggles? I'm just curious," she said. "No offense, or anything, of course."
Most Muggleborns tended to shy away from April at first because she was a Pureblood, and in time of death eaters, it was a very scary time to be a Muggleborn and have Purebloods friends or even classmates.
Johnathan Lawson - June 23, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
John shrugged, "None taken. I really have no idea why, but they weren't the only ones either, there's been a few muggle towns that have been pretty much destroyed lately. " He told her "But I agree, it is a little odd to have random attacks on muggles," He'd have to try to remember to tell Aj about that one, they had been talking about it just days ago.
April Teagan - June 23, 2008 11:52 PM (GMT)
"It's pretty sad, really. I have a lot of friends who are Muggleborns, and would be just devastated if that happened..." she said, then realized that the topic might be sensitive to John. Oh well. He'd leave if he was unformtable.
"Being a Pureblood, I can understand the whole blood thing. But I don't get how killing Muggles and Muggleborns is really doing anything. We're all going to die out if we don't intermarry anyways. I'm not sure if you know much about the topic," she said, trailing off again.
She had always wanted to talk about this with, but never knew who the right person was. A lot of her friends were Pureblood extremists, and the others were either uninterested, or scared because they too were Muggleborns.
Johnathan Lawson - June 24, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
"I don't know a whole lot about that subject., but it doesn't make sense to me either. After so long wouldn't you just start inbreeding?" He asked. He would never understand why people thought taking things so far would help anything. If you looked at all the other extremist groups in history, nothing good ever came of it.
April Teagan - June 24, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
April snorted, looking at John awkwardly. She finally felt like he wasn't going to start crying or attempting to throw himself in the lake, and now she could be normal around him and act comfortable. She smiled at him and shook her head.
"Inbreeding? You won't catch me marrying any of my family members..." she said, laughing. "But, yes, technically you'd have to start having children with your cousins or something. Most of our families are inter-related somehow, however, usually distantly, so it's safe."
"That'd be sort of... awkward, I think, to be honest. I'd rather marry a Half-bloof or a Muggleborn, truly."
Johnathan Lawson - June 24, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
He smiled a little when she laughed. "Yeah, it would be very strange to marry your cousin or something. \" He found it hard to even think about getting married to someone related to him, let alone having kids. "So what are you doing out here tonight?" he asked her, it was nice to have someone to listen to the things going on with him, but it would be a nice change to listen to her for a change.
April Teagan - June 24, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
April sighed, sort of glad for a subject change. She hated talking about her feelings, but she wanted to get away from the subject of death and inbred breeding, to be quite blunt. Shifting awkwardly in her seat, she was quiet for a few moments as she stared deep into the flames.
"Tonight? I guess I was a bit lonely inside. Missing someone, I suppose," she said simply, looking into John's eyes and then smiling, trying to hide everything in that simple smile. It usually worked.
