Title: Lesson #2
Description: Defensive Spells
Roxane Stalhand - June 29, 2008 08:50 AM (GMT)
Roxane walked into the class. It was the afternoon and almost the end of the day. It was her last lesson to teach. Roxane wrote on the board...
Good afternoon class. Please sit down where you were sitting last and if you weren't here then pick a seat. Today we are going to do some defensive spells.
Roxane sat down and relaxed. She was going have fun casting spells on her students.
Angela Jiminez - June 30, 2008 06:22 AM (GMT)
Angela slowly walked into class stopping to read the board. "Morning professor." She casually said before going to the seat she was in yesdterday. She read that they were going to be doing defensive spells. She figured it was better than nothing.
Arien Broliex - June 30, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
-Arien steps into the classroom carrying a small backpack containing his wand his DADA book and couple of personal objects(A knife, a ring, and a whistle) nervously shifting shifting his eyes and jumping at any sound. He sits down two rows across from Angela and waves mouthing the words "Hi!"
April Teagan - June 30, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
April gandered into the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom and sat down immediately, not even taking into account what the board says. She was in a really bad mood, and didn't want to deal with anyone, or even classes today. Not even Potions was going to cheer her up, and she knew that.
Looking up, she gave a weak smile to the Professor to let her know thatshe was present, waved to Angela, and brought out her wand, parchment, ink, a quill, and her textbook. To soothe her nerves and anger, she opened the textbook up to the chapter on Defensive Spells and started reading.
AJ Vitcav - June 30, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
AJ made his way to his Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson as he usually did this time of day. He enjoyed them. If he wanted to become an Auror next year he needed to pay attention to every lesson.
As he walked in he saw "DEFENSIVE SPELLS" written on the board. He felt excited about that one. He noticed April sitting where she sat last time, and he also obeyed the rule sitting in his chosen seat.
Instead of pulling out his Defence book, he of course pulled out his Transfiguration book.
Angela Jiminez - June 30, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
"Hi.." Angela mumbled at Arien. Angel took out her wand, a piece of parchment and her quil and ink waiting for the lesson to start. Angela smiled weakily April and gave a small wave back. Angela really felt the need need to smoke a cigarettte now. She didn't understand why. She kicked the thought out of her head but it didn't stop her legs from jittereing or her fingers from twidling.
Ashton Thomas - June 30, 2008 09:10 PM (GMT)
Ashton walked into the classroom with his books in one hand. He looked around "Hello Professor." He said smiling warmly. He read the bored and found an empty seat near Angela. "Hey." He said sitting next to her.
Rebecca Emery - July 1, 2008 02:38 AM (GMT)
Rebecca sighed to herself as she walked along the halls of Hogwarts and to Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. She'd missed the first class because she hadn't been feeling well. It was a shame she had to admit but not that big of one. After all she didn't mind DADA, but it wasn't her favorite class. Even so she walked into the classroom with a smile upon her face as she let her blue eyes look around.
Taking in the students she noticed only a few. Her friend April, Ashton a fellow Hufflepuff, AJ who April was fond of and who had been in the summer tournament, and finally of course Professor Stalhand. Taking in everyone and the area she couldn’t help but notice everyone seemed to be sitting in a specific seat. Knowing this Rebecca sat herself in the back, hoping she had taken no ones spot, and waited for class to start.
Emily Fall - July 1, 2008 04:52 AM (GMT)
Emily walked into the class. She smiled, she knew when her cousin said defensive spells, she meant "Today is a good way for the class to almost kill each other without me getting fired." Emily walked over to her seat in the back and noticed Rebecca. "Um hey Rebecca, you're sitting in my seat. No need to move, I will just sit in the one next to you, no one will notice."
Jessie Phoenixfire - July 3, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Jessie walked into class, five minutes ahead of the start of class, she hoped. She didnt want to be late so she left ten minutes ago from the common room. looking up on the board, she looked around the room and noticed there were no other first years, which probably meant she would be paired with a person probably a year ahread of her. Joy. She took her seat and rifled through her spells and counterspells, hardly pausing to read each one.
Fawne Sugarmoon - July 3, 2008 12:30 AM (GMT)
Fawne had made sure to be on time again, not wanting to be late to the lesson since she knew the professor didn't like late students. She walked into the room with light footsteps, heading over to the same seat she always sat in before her eyes even read the board. she sat down fluidly, gathering her books from her bag and placing them on the desk.
Finally allowing grey eyes to roam over the instructions on the board. She had to physically force the small half smile to stay on her lips when she read today's lesson. The last few times she had to use defensive spells brought up some painful memories, that involved injuries and him. With a languid blink she forced her mind into a state of blankness, tucking the books absently back into her bag.
Septimus Ambrose - July 3, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
Septimus strode in through the open classroom door well in advance of the start of today's lesson. He casually glanced up at the blackboard, grimacing slightly when he caught sight of the words 'defensive spells' written upon it.
'What sort of rubbish is this? Why defend when you can attack? the first year Slytherin thought. The best defense was an unstoppable offense after all.
The curly haired boy then made his way toward an empty desk near the front left corner of the room and began rummaging through his shoulder bag for his quill and ink.
Rebecca Emery - July 4, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
As Rebecca sat at her desk waiting as patiently as she could for class to start she hummed quietly to herself, a lullaby she knew and particularly loved. Her humming was cut short though as she heard a familiar voice behind her, before she felt the presence. Turing in her seat Rebecca’s blue eyes looked to see Emily. A fellow Hufflepuff and friend. Smiling friendly in greeting it suddenly faltered at the girl’s words. She had taken someone’s seat. Not a surprise there, she thought to herself as she began to move though stopped as she heard the girl’s next words.
“No need to move, I will just sit in the one next to you, no one will notice."
Smiling gratefully at Emily Rebecca sat back down and rearranged her things to how they were moments ago before Emily had spoke to her. “Thanks. I personally didn’t want to go and find another seat. After all it seems like everyone has assigned ones. Don’t want to make the same mistake twice.” Glancing over to Emily her smile widened in amusement before she turned back to the front of the class, waiting once again.
Trey Raynes - July 7, 2008 05:33 AM (GMT)
Trey was casually walking through the hallways. He was trying his best to stand all the mudbloods that were just all over this school. He sighed and walked into the classroom. He made his way over towards Roxanne. They hadn't met formally yet but he was told about her, and he was pretty sure she was told about him. He stood next to her and winked at her. He couldn't help it, it was in his nature and she was rather pretty. He wondered what the class would think about there being an assistant teacher now. He decided he would go up to the board and print his name.
Professor Raynes
He noticed that she had written defensive spells on the Board. At least he'd get to throw a few hexes at the students. He looked around the classroom. He spotted his cousin Angela and noted the mudblood she was sitting next too. He shook his head in disapproval. It seemed like they were friends. Oh well. He put on his fake smile which was believeble by most, not by those who kn ew him that was sure. He decided to wait a minute because he wasn't sure if there were anymore students coming.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 05:43 AM (GMT)
Carly was running a little late for class, as usual. The events from the other night were still on her mind. She was lucky that she has not run into Trey yet. She knew that the second he caught her alone, she'd probably be dead. She brushed these thoughts from her mind and quickly entered the classroom. She looked around the room first for a seat, not really caring what the Professor would say. She spotted one and made her way over.
As she reached the desk and set her book down, she looked up to the front of the classroom to see none other than Trey. Her face had dropped. Why? That was all she could think. She felt as though she couldn't move as he stared right back at her.
Angela Jiminez - July 7, 2008 05:50 AM (GMT)
Angela watched wide eyed as Trey walked in. She was at a loss for words. What was he doing here? What on earth was going on? She watched as he wrote his name on the Board. Professor? He's working here now. She realized he must have gotten a job with the perks of spying on her. He was the one informing her uncle about what was going on. She saw the expression on his face. And remembered she was sitting next to Ashton. She was cursing in her head.
She noticed Carly walking in late, not seeming like herself for some reason. She was about to turn to her to say hi when she saw her face. She was in shock. She looked up and saw the expression on Trey's face now. He seemed a little aggitated but his eyes were definitely glaring at Carly. What happened between those two. She was praying that Carly had't upset him.
Trey Raynes - July 7, 2008 05:56 AM (GMT)
Trey wanted to pounce at her. But he couldn't. He was in class. He was a professor. He calmly looked at his list of students. "Miss Butank, you're late." He said as nicely as he could. "I'm sure Miss Stalhand went over lateness in the previous lesson. So let's not be late again ok?" He asked again adding his fake smile at the end.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 06:01 AM (GMT)
Carly snapped out of it when he spoke. She was surprised he hadn't attacked her right there. He was definitely good at hiding his true feelings. He sounded nice, and it was believable to anyone that wasn't her. She had no reason to be nice to him, and she really hadn't planned to. She looked at him, disgusted as he finished and smiled.
She pulled out her chair, even though she wanted to leave, she couldn't. "Well if you're going to be here every class, then you better get used to it." She was being rude. Everyone else seemed confused as to why. They knew that she could be rude, but this seemed random and unneccessary. She sat down in her seat, glaring at him.
Angela Jiminez - July 7, 2008 06:08 AM (GMT)
Angela noted the anger and rudeness in her voice. "Carly.." Angela said turning to look at her. "What's going on?" Angela asked. She knew something was going on. She knew her cousin fake smiles. And he was never nice. Something happened. She wanted to know what.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 06:17 AM (GMT)
Carly hadn't noticed she sat behind Angela until she turned around. She was demanding to know what was going on. She felt no need to tell her. She had nothing to do with it. She had no idea that Angela was actually Trey's cousin. The anger was still rising in her just being in Trey's presence. This caused her to snap at Angela. "That's not something you need to be worried about."
She looked back up at Trey, then to Angela. Angela looked offended, and she didn't mean to do that. She was letting Trey get the best of her again. She sighed. "I'm sorry..it's just that-" She stopped mid sentence when she heard Trey speak up to the both of them. He had obviously been listening and she guessed he didn't want Carly telling people.
Angela Jiminez - July 7, 2008 06:23 AM (GMT)
Angela looked up at Trey. She glared at him mouthing screw you to him. She turned back around to Carly. "Trust me Carly, whatever is going on between you and him, partly my business. He's my idiot cousin." She explained. "Look how about we talk when he's not around?" Angela suggestd. They were in class and this wasn't the best place to be talking. And is seemed Trey didn't want them talking either.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 06:28 AM (GMT)
Carly was shocked when Angela turned around and mouthed something to Trey that made him keep quiet. When she turned around, she looked at Angela. Angela then announced that they were cousins. Carly's eyes immediately widened. Just for that reason, she felt as though she couldn't trust Angela. This was such a horrible coincidence.
When Angela finished talking, Carly looked away and shook her head. "I don't think talking to you about this situation would be a very good idea. Talking to you at all seems like a bad idea right now." She kept glancing at Trey. She thanked merlin for the other students in the classroom right now.
Angela Jiminez - July 7, 2008 06:35 AM (GMT)
"Look..Carly we hate eachother. I'm not going to go off tell him crap." Angela explained. She sighed. "Look he wont know ok?" Angela really wanted to know what was goin on. She wanted Carly to know she could trust her.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 06:40 AM (GMT)
Carly's thoughts raced. She was thinking about that night, and Angela's relation to him. She was afraid that Angela might be just like him. Angela spoke, and she sounded sincere. Carly sighed, she figured nothing worse could happen by telling her. So she nodded. "We'll talk after class."
Roxane Stalhand - July 7, 2008 06:56 AM (GMT)
Roxane wasn't being that talkative today. Herr date with Tim the other night was still on her mind. "Carly you are not late since the class has not started" Roxane said looking at Trey. She did not believe the smile for a second. It was as fake as her alligator shoes.
"I'm Roxane. I will be your boss kinda I guess. You will do what I say or I will punish you like the rest of the students. Got that? Now can you start the class. You can teach it today so I see your teaching style. I will be here if you need help." Roxane waited for Trey to start the class. "Oh and last thing. I do the punishing, you don't."
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 07:01 AM (GMT)
Carly was very glad to hear Professor Stalhand stand up to Trey. He needed to be put in his place. She was disappointed to hear that he would be teaching the class. She also took notice to the fact that they would be doing hexes today. That basically screamed for Trey to hurt Carly. She brushed that thought aside knowing that the Professor would still be there, which made her feel atleast a bit more safe.
She looked at Trey, but she barely could. She hated him so much, and no one knew why. No one could know why. She just sat there and waited for him to start.
Trey Raynes - July 7, 2008 07:01 AM (GMT)
Trey wanted to say many things to her right now, but held his tongue. He nodded. "Yes of course." He said trying to sound un aggrivated as possible. This was going to be an interesting situation for Trey, having to listen to her.
He took ina deep breath. "Ok so class why don't we start by writing down all the defensive spells that you know of off the top of your head." He looked over at her to see if that was ok with her.
Mona Woods - July 7, 2008 07:03 AM (GMT)
Mona ran into DADA class breathlessly. She was late yet again.
"I'm sorry, Professor." she said. "I got held up by those horrible moving stairs." she mumbled, furious at herself.
Why do they have to move? she thought.
She went into class and sat down in an empty desk, getting out her parchment, quill and ink.
Angela Jiminez - July 7, 2008 07:06 AM (GMT)
Angela was trying very hard to contain her laughter in right now. He had to listen to her and she could put him in his place all the time. This amused her very much, its about time he got pushed off of that high horse of his and have to listen to someone else.
She thought of a couple defensive spells and began writing them down. She was still strugling to contain the laughter in her, but a small smile krept across her face.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 07:09 AM (GMT)
Carly saw a girl run in late. She shook her head, she was late herself..but not this late. She just couldn't wait to hear Trey's reaction to this.
She pulled out some parchment ,and a quill and ink bottle. Defensive spells was a perfect thing for him to teach. She didn't want to do this because she plainly didn't want to listen to him, but she knew she had to. So, if she was going to do it..she was going to be a smart a*s about it. The first thing she wrote was Crucio. She laughed to herself. She knew he'd get a kick out of that, so she only hoped he looked at her parchment.
She continued to write other spells down, glancing up at him occasionally.
Trey Raynes - July 7, 2008 07:15 AM (GMT)
Trey decided to walk around looking to see what they were writing down. He went over and eyed Angela's paper. "Yea..I know you know more than that Ang." He mumbled trying to sound angry at her. After all he did teach her at home, she better rememebr them. He looked over at Carly's paper. He made a face once he read the Crucio. He knew why she had wwritten that. "Let's try stearing clear of unforgivables though." He said trying not to snap at her.
He noticed the girl walking in late. "Just write down a list of all the defensive spells that you know." He said not even caring that she was late.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 07:20 AM (GMT)
She smirked on the inside when he read her paper. That's just what she wanted. She stopped writing and looked up. She felt very uncomfortable with him this close to her. "Well i believe they are still something i can use for defense. So i will keep them just where they are." She sounded very matter-of-fact.
She then suddenly felt the anger rise in her again when he excused the girl for being late. She wanted so bad to just snap, but she didn't. She spoke through her teeth. "What happened to not being late? I got a big speech when i walked in, and this girl walks in later and you say nothing." She wasn't trying to get the other girl in trouble, she was just mad. "I don't believe that's right." She glared up at him.
Roxane Stalhand - July 7, 2008 07:35 AM (GMT)
"Miss Wood you will be seeing me later in detention." Roxane sighed. Trey was going to annoying. He wasn't the type of person who she got along with. It was going to be a long year. If either of them made it. "Also Trey if you are going to single out one student to hate. Like you are doing with Carly I suggest don't. That could lose some one a job."
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 07:38 AM (GMT)
Carly began to like Professor Stalhand. She was really going to give Trey a run for his money, and she was going to enjoy every minute of it. Carly smiled at her and then looked back at Trey with a smirk of achievement on her face. "That's right, Professor" She said that sarcastically. "Go on and teach." She shoed him away, smirking. She felt like she had control now.
Trey Raynes - July 7, 2008 07:42 AM (GMT)
"Well Miss Stalhand you just told me you do the punishing and I don't. I figured if you had a problem with her being late, you'd say something." Trey said very matter of factly. He had been singling Carly out, but this was a way to cover for it. If it got too obvious he would start to say things to Angela too. She was used to it already now anyway. He could already tell that him and Roxanne were going to butt heads this year. Could be interesting though.
He walked back and looked at their papers. "Seriously Angela. " He noticed her paper had only two things written. Expelliarmus, and a scribble. "You can't think of one more thing?" He asked more in shock. A whole summer he spent training her was wasted.
He honestly couldn't wait until he saw Carly alone. She would seriously be in for it then. She just had to keep running her mouth and getting him more upset.
Carly Butank - July 7, 2008 07:50 AM (GMT)
Carly continued to write spells down. She listened to him talk as she wrote. She nearly cringed when he talked. She hated to hear his voice. It was almost like nails to a chalkboard to her. She rolled her eyes and took in a deep breath, trying to calm down. She was tired of writing. She didn't even know why they had to write this stuff down. She just wanted to do them. She knew THAT would be interesting.
With that thought, she set her quill in her ink bottle and leaned back in her chair while the other students continued to write. She glanced around the room.
Angela Jiminez - July 7, 2008 07:54 AM (GMT)
Angela rolled her eyes. "No, I can't think of anymore. You should just teach them." She shighed. She was glad it seemed like professor Stalhand didn't like him. Which wasn't a surprise, noone did. She didn't even like her own cousin. Maybe after awhile of this, he'd quit.
Roxane Stalhand - July 7, 2008 08:45 AM (GMT)
"Call me Roxane Trey. Miss Stalhand sounds to formal." Roxane rolled her eyes. Why the hell had Roxane approved on having an helper. Her was pissing her off. "Trey here is a little advice. Talk to more students then April and Carly. You are going to make them feel left out" Roxane said trying to annoy Trey.
Mona Woods - July 7, 2008 09:31 AM (GMT)
"Right.." she muttered. Detention was going to be great... she thought sarcastically.
She took out parchment, dipping her quill in ink and started scribbling spells.
Rebecca Emery - July 7, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
As Rebecca watched the scene before her take place there was no mistaking the tension in the air. Looking from each person to the other as they spoke she couldn't help but be grateful for the end of the conversation. She had to thank the professor Stalhand for this though she wouldn't speak it out loud.
As she'd been busy watching the people around her react she'd forgotten to write down a list of defensive curses. Mentally scolding herself Rebecca quickly began to write on the blank parchment before her briefly wondering on the knew assistant teacher, Professor Raynes. Rebecca couldn't help but feel a little frightened. After all he did have that evil feeling about him.
