Edith was sitting under a large oak tree that overlooked the lake, twirling her wand between her fingers idly. Having not wanted lunch, she had come out to enjoy the view, but had found it quite unpleasant, with the wind blowing straight into her face, making her eyes water. Her attention wandered, and she drifted off into a daydream about going to Hogsmeade - something which would not be happening soon, no doubt, as the last trip had been very recently and she had not gone, preferring to relish the rare quietness of the common room as the other students frolicked in the small village.
Edith reached down to her bag and swore loudly, realising she had forgotten to bring it and it was probably still up in Ravenclaw tower, meaning she would have a long walk to get to it. Indeed, she would have to move soon, her stomach was growling with unrequited hunger and the view was nowhere near interesting enough to hold her attention. Sighing loudly, Edith got to her feet, but at the same time she heard the crack of a twig behind her, she turned to see who had approached her in her solitude, slightly surprised.
"Oh, hello. Why are you out here?" Edith said, her voice sounding too loud over the still tranquility of the surrounding grounds.
Cassandra mentally kicked her self. She took her foot off the twig she had snapped. She had seen Edith sitting there by herself and she didn't want to disturb her.
"Hi." she said "I just wanted to have a nice lunch here. I didn't mean to disturb you." she smiled and waited for Edith's reply.
Calum walked under the oak tree. He felt comfortable under it, the breeze passing by every minute or so. He saw Edith and a Gryffindor and decided to greet them.
"Hello." he said, smiling.
Then turned to the unknown girl.
"Hi, I'm Calum Ferguson. Third year Ravenclaw. May I kindly ask who you are?"
He smiled. His communication seemed a bit too formal for this occasion, but, nevertheless, he didn't cancel his question for fear of being judged as 'old-fashioned'.
Cassandra turned to Calum.
"Oh hello" she said."I'm Cassandra. Nice to meet you Calum." He seemed friendly."I'm a 5th year. As you can tell I'm in Gryffindor." she said pointing to her robes.
"Yeah, that's a good point." he said. "So, what are you guys doing out here in the nice sun?... I meant, girls."
He sat down, cross-legged, on the grass, facing the oak tree.
