Title: The End of the Day
Description: Zeke

Mei Feng - July 8, 2008 11:06 PM (GMT)
She’d been teaching all day and quite frankly she was exhausted. The lessons were the first of the year and although she’d been light hearted and cheerful about them the kids had taken this as an excuse to misbehave. She’d taken more of them to the hospital wing today than she’d care to count, and with such harmless animals too; almost muggle animals. She didn’t mind too much it was part of the learning process after all; it was just so tiring all day.

The evening was finally upon the school and dinner had just finished, leaving a few precious hours of daylight for the students to abuse in freedom. Mei smiled now, thinking back on her own actions in Hogwarts. Her Logan and Tommy had lost Ravenclaw many points. In the fact since she was head of Ravenclaw house now it was almost ironic.

With a giggle she lent back on her hands. She was sat on the surprisingly clean desk in her round office. She was sat with her short legs dangling off the desk and her eyes gazing out of the large spelled windows onto the grounds. She was perfectly still as her mind wandered and her eyes roamed over the view. The animals in the cages on the bookshelves were the only things making noises as the professor relaxed in her room.

Zeke walked with a bit of hesitation in his steps. He wasn't exactly sure where he was going, or at least he wasn't sure where his destination was located.
He had never been in the office of his head of house before. In fact, he had had surprisingly few encounters with her, considering the number of tricks he had played during his time at Hogwarts.
However, even though Zeke was a habitual troublemaker, he was also excellent at not getting caught. He smiled at the thought.

As he walked on, Zeke tried to remember the directions he had been given. Right, left, left.. right? He wasn't too sure, but there was no other way to find out than to simply try.

Had it been any other day, Zeke probably wouldn't have agreed to run the errand he was now in the middle of, but he had woken up with a smile on his face and it had only grown wider during the day.

Turning around yet another corner, he nodded, pleased to see the door to professor Feng's office in front of him.
He walked up to it and knocked a jaunty rhytm before opening the door.

"Professor Feng?" he called out as he stepped inside.

She was drawn from her thoughts abruptly when there was a knock at her door. Somehow the interruption wasn't as annoying as she would have thought and the smile was still on her lips as she quickly sat up.

She span on the edge of the desk so she was now perched on it facing the door rather than the windows, she drew her wand from the bell sleeves of her wizarding dress and pointed it at the door. Opening it with a silent spell. The many animals in the portraits of the wall were all suddenly curious to the visitor, eyes peering out of frames.

Mei took a moment to study the student before her, she knew he was from her house and she had made and effort to memorise the students names of the past year. A bright smile was set on her features as she finally recognised him. Her tone bright as she spoke;

"yes Ezekiel, what can i do for you?"

Pleased to see that his smile was returned, Zeke took another few steps inside. He glanced at the professor's strange choice of place to sit, but didn't comment on it. Professor Feng had always seemed liked a breath of fresh air in the teaching staff to him.

He was about to tell her to call him 'Zeke', like he usually did, when he remembered that she was a professor. Ezekiel just seemed so strangely misplaced, like it was someone else's name, not his own. However, he was rather impressed that she remembered his name altogether. After all, they had never spoken properly before.

Zeke walked up to her with his usual laid-back attitude.

"The nurse sent me - she wanted to give you an update on the students from your morning class?" he said, looking at the professor to make sure she was following what he said.

"They told me to let you know that none of them were injured too badly, but that they will be keeping the second-year Gryffindor, miss Everett, for the night" he said, hoping he remembered everything the nurse had told him to say. He had been randomly walking by the hospital wing and before he knew it, he'd been on his way.

"Just in case" he said in conclusion, as he added a shrug and a wry smile to what he was saying. He felt a bit uncertain of what to do with himself. The many eyes from the walls were all on him.
Zeke scratched the back of his head as he looked up at the professor, waiting for her reply.

She noticed his smile and watched him carefully as he took a few steps into the room. She watched him almost like she watched the creatures she handled. She did it to everyone, not intentionally but because her job had made her naturally observant. It was why she’d managed to memorise most of the students in her houses names, she did the same with her classes. She wouldn’t admit however she remember them like she remember the creatures, by categories.

She laughed brightly at his words, though not impolitely, the tiredness of before washing away. It always amused her when the nurses gave her updates. It was a common occurrence and the students never did learn. Teaching CoMC was defiantly one of the jobs more practically linked to healing. Before she spoke she shot a glare at a few of the larger portraits, who were still staring. It seemed all the portraits had been painted to be curious.

“Off with you” she waved her hand vaguely at the walls and the painted creatures retreated back to there previous tasks. “My lessons follow me to my office…” it was a vague apology but spoke in a bright tone which made it sound more like a joke. She pondered slightly over the fate of the students, suddenly aware she hadn’t even addressed his message.

“You know you’d think they’d learn than creatures bite, but nope they never do. And I try so hard to keep them safe, oh well. No harm no foul right?” her feisty attitude was clear with the last statement but she didn’t really give it chance to settle in. “oh thanks for the message by the way, did the nurse catch you?”

With a quick movement she slid backwards off the desk and into the large green arm chair, her short frame so small she could easily sit crossed legged in her chair, which she did. She flicked her wand once more closing the open door before placing it back up the sleeve of her dress and motioning to the arm chair across from her.

“Care to sit? You’re a student of my house after all. Oh and call me Mei, or Professor Mei at least. Professors Feng makes me sound old.”

Zeke appreciated how Mei made the watching pictures go away. He never liked being watched, it always made him restless and awkward.

"No problem" Zeke replied shortly, as an answer to her comment. He smiled wryly
"Yeah, she managed to convince me that letting you know how your student are doing is more important than walking around randomly.." he said as he let his eyes wander across the many objects in the room.
".. which is probably right" he added quietly as he narrowed his eyes to be able to make out some writing on one of the cages. It was a name of a creature he had never heard of before.

"Yeah, that'd be nice" he said as a reply to her offer as he took a seat in the armchair similar to the one she was sitting in.
There was a short moment of silence, but Zeke broke it quickly.

"Mei it is" he said, nodding.
"You can call me Zeke if you like - I usually don't respond to Ezekiel. It's too formal, you know?" he said honestly.

He knew that he wanted to talk to her, but wasn't quite sure how to begin a conversation. He was still a bit thrown off by the fact that she was his head of house, and yet seemed more like one of his co-students like a professor. She was so down to earth.
Zeke kept smiling, desperately trying to think of a clever question to ask her.

Mei Feng - July 9, 2008 11:39 PM (GMT)
She smiled brightly when he took the seat, glad he wanted to stay. She liked to maintain a friendship with her students, house students and class students both. She’d only been teaching a few years but she knew already that the better relationship you had with the students the better the job was. Plus she was too young to go for the strict teacher approach.

“Walking around randomly was always fun back when I was your age. Wow now I do sound old. Blah” the Asian features of the woman lit up as she laughed, she seemed younger with every action. It wasn’t that she was childish it was just that she wasn’t a high and mighty as the other teachers, she spent nearly ten years living in the wilderness as her job and she still remembered her school days vividly. Why expect students to be what there not when you can encourage them in other ways?

“I hate formality, there too much of it about. So Zeke it is. Not to be too much of a professor but how are your studies going?” She winked at him brightly when she agreed to call him Zeke. Her earthy nature visible just by her actions, it was no wonder she was CoMC teacher.
