Title: CoMC Lesson One (indoors)
Description: Learning About Bowtruckles
Mei Feng - July 8, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
Despite being a mostly outdoors class CoMC had its own classroom indoors. It was on the very first floor, above the dungeons. The room was very large and very light, despite looking slightly under used. Mei had currently charmed the single desks to be set out in groups of three and at the front of the room, in front of her desk, was a large tank. The tank was full of little twig like creatures all sat around the same section of magically cut tree. They were Bowtruckles or Tree guardians.
Mei was smiling brightly, perched on the edge of her desk, waiting for the students to arrive. Her feet dangling near the side of the glass tank and her arms covered in dragon hide gloves. On the black board behind her were the classes instructions.
Welcome to the first CoMC class of the new year.
Hope you had nice holidays students!
You should know the rules by now, so stick to them.
You can work in groups or alone, but fill up the desks at the front first.

You will need you Dragon Hide gloves for the handling section of the lesson.
Rebecca Emery - July 9, 2008 12:17 AM (GMT)
Rebecca had noticed the bulletin on the board in the Hufflepuff common room just the other day and couldn’t be more than grateful that she did. If she hadn’t Rebecca knew she would be in the same predicament for the first class of Care of Magical Creatures (COMC) this year just like she had at the last class of last year; by being late. Even though her lateness had caused her to get to know one of her close friends, Craven, she knew this time she probably wouldn’t go unnoticed. And going unnoticed meant detentions, time after class, or even written essays. Things she didn’t feel up to doing, especially it being her fifth year; O.W.L year.
At these thoughts Rebecca opened the door to the first floor classroom which Professor Feng used when they were taught indoors. As she walked in the first thing she did was look to the Professor and say, “Hello!” Before she got an answer back her blue eyes were already moving to the board and scanning it. Reading the words about seating placement made her smile knowing if she hadn’t read the board first, well technically second, she would have sat in the middle rather than the first.
Thinking these thoughts Rebecca made her way over and sat down. Making her self comfortable she glanced back up to the board as she pulled out the materials needed. When she was satisfied that she knew exactly what to do Rebecca dipped her quill in her midnight blue ink and began to write on the parchment before her.
Saphira Adair - July 16, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
Earlier that day Saphira heard from the older students talking about the Care of Magical Creature’s lesson that would be taking place in the empty classroom instead of the Hogwarts grounds. Saphira walked from the Great Hall to the spare classroom. As Saphira walked into the classroom she hoped the she was in the right class. I wonder what Professor Feng is like? Saphira thought as she headed for an empty desk in the front row. Then Saphira took out parchment, ink, quills and began to write what was on the blackboard. The class would be learning about bowtruckles. She thought What do I know about bowtruckles? Oh yeah these creatures I think live in trees. For a snack bowtruckles prefer woodlice or fairy eggs.
Valentina Greysoul - July 16, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
Valentina walked into the classroom with a bright smile, which quickly faded when she saw that no students from her own House had yet arrived.
She went over to an empty desk for three. She waved at Rebecca, her Hufflepuff friend with an embarrassed smile, and gave a young first year a half-smile, before returning to her book.
As she stared vaguely at the blackboard, she noticed the task, so she turned to look for a spare parchment and quill, before starting.
Bowtruckles
Bowtruckles, or better known as Tree Guardians, live in Great Britain, and are known to guard ancient trees from Wand-Makers,
They are pixie-like bark-coloured tree-guardians of about eight inches in height. They have knobbly arms and legs, two twiglike fingers on each hand and a barklike face with small beetle-brown eyes; a camouflage that makes them difficult to spot in their natural habitat. Even though they seem harmless, they have got really sharp fingers; many woodcutters often get injured. They feed on insects, especially woodlice and fairy and Doxy eggs.
Sid Carrick - July 16, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
Sid walked in to Care of Magical Creatures to learn that the lesson was inside today. He took a seat by himsel nodding at his fellow classmates as he passed, and also the professor. He took otu his book and began to read the board. He read the page intended and began to write his paragraph.
A Bowtruckle is a small tree guardian that can grow up to 8 inches in height. It looks made of bark and twigs and avids humans. The Bowtruckle is peaceful by nature and has a diet consisting of insects. If its tree is attacked, the Bowtruckle will defend it by trying to gouge the attackers eyes out with its long fingers.
Sid finished reading and writing and felt satisfied with himself. He began to get bored and daydreamed about a Bowtruckle tryign to gouge a humans eyes out. he giggled to himself slightly at the thought of this. Sid sat waiting for more people to arrive or for the class to start.
Valentina Greysoul - July 16, 2008 08:52 PM (GMT)
Valentina had obviously tried to catch Sid's attention, but he seemed not to have seen her, so she sat back down miserably.
When Sid giggled quietly, however, Valentina turned back to stare at him.
"care to sit here?" she asked sweetly, obviously hoping from the deepest of her heart he would accept so that she wouldn't have to sit by a Mudblood.
She tapped an empty chair next to her and pointed, in case he hadn't noticed.
"please?" she added, eying the door.
Mei Feng - July 18, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
Mei smiled at the students now piling into the room, waving at them in greeting. She had been begining to worry her class was going to be a flop; and she'd worked so hard on making this lesson an easy first lesson back. Her eyes glanced down to the Bowtruckle's in the tank, each of them protecting their own little section of wood. She could hear the class chatter amougst themselves as they answered her little task. Her eyes suddenly snapped up and she pointed to Rebbeca, who was sat on the desk infront of her.
"Nearly forgot, 5 points to Miss Emery, who was early and the first to complete the task!" Her vioce was happy and bright as she spoke" So Miss Emery, can you tell us one fact about Bowtruckles?"
Sid Carrick - July 18, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Sid noticed that this Slytherin girl was talking to him. He smiled sweetly. "Sure darling, Id be happy to sit with you." He said picking up his things and moving to sit next to her. Once he was seated, he looked at her. "So how are you and why would you want a guy like me sitting next to a girl like you." he said smiling and looknig her up and down. He thought she was a pretty girl but was flirting, not because he liked her (he didnt know her yet.) But because it was fun to do and ya never know, he might end up liking her.
Craven Blackwood - July 18, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Craven came into the room a little later than he would of liked but still on time; just. his sister was following behind him somewhere so they weren't too late. After all Fawne was never late unless she really couldn't help it. Craven however was a swine for being late even if he could help it.
He grinned at the professor in a typical slytherin way; saluting her in greeting as a sort of apology for almost being late. His eyes however quickly switched from Prof. Mei to the spare seats at the front of the room, noticing at once the spare seat next to Rebbecca.
Without pausing he sauntered over to the seat dropping down lazily and removing his gloves, quill and parchment from his bag. With another lazy movement his messy scrawl had written a short answer on his paper before he spoke to Rebbecca in his normal teasing tone. His eyes not leaving the tank at the front of the room.
"Morning Pet."
Fawne Sugarmoon - July 18, 2008 01:41 AM (GMT)
Fawne was next into the classroom, shortly behind her brother, who had seemingly marched straight to a spare seat at the front of the room, within moments she knew why; Rebecca was sat the other side of him. Fawne choose to wave lightly in greeting to the professor, a small half smile on her lips. She knew she was still on time and Professor Mei was cheerful enough to forgive students who were otherwise.
With a few fluid steps she was suddenly sat the other side of Valentina, not the side Sid now sat obviously. Despite the fact she was a few year head of Valentina they had once been friends and although Fawne hadn't spoken to the girl in a long while she assumed they were still so.
"Oh hello Valentina, it is a delightful morning no?...Oh and Hello to you to Mr?"
Without waiting for a response from either she used a crimson quill and ink to write her answer in loopy writing on parchment. Her eyes turning back to the professor, who looked amused at the class...
Sid Carrick - July 18, 2008 01:52 AM (GMT)
"Carrick. Sid Carrick." he said sticking out his hand. "Nice to meet you. And your name is?" he asked. He sat there waiting for her answer and began to doodle a bit.
Mei Feng - July 18, 2008 01:54 AM (GMT)
Mei smiled as two more students entered the room, slowly filling the class up. She grinned amusedly as the boy, Blackwood, saluted and then the girl, Sugarmoon, waved. She knew, from memorising her class list, that the two were classed as 'siblings' and it amused her how both reacted. Although she knew most of the students last names it took her longer the recall the first...
She kicked her heels disinterestedly against the desk as she watched the door way, anyone else had only a few moments left before they were late, and if they were late, well thats one black mark, two and its detention. She was lenient but not daft.
"Anymore for anymore?" she pondered aloud, still waiting for Rebecca's answer to her question.
OOC NOTE: Students have till Rebecca Replies to join the class, anyone after that is LATE. Be warned, TWO LATES = DETENTION.
Fawne Sugarmoon - July 18, 2008 02:03 AM (GMT)
"Fawne Sugarmoon....It is glorious to meet you too Sid" Her tone was soft and twinkling as she spoke, her pale hand reaching across the table to shake his.
Her eyes watched him as he doodled taking in his house more than anything. "Oh you are a Slytherin, and your year?" she was trying to start a conversation, and she always found house and year were common ones. She just hoped Valentina didn't think she was being ignored.
Sid Carrick - July 18, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
Sid smiled as he listened to Fawnes reply. "Thank you darling." He said shaking her hand. "Yes I am a Slytherin and Im also a 5th year." He said smiling and still doodling. "I see you are a Gryffindor, do you ahte me yet?" He said laughing. "Just kidding of course, what year are you darling?" He asked.
Emily Fall - July 18, 2008 06:56 AM (GMT)
Emily ran down the halls. She didn't want to be late for her first CoMC lesson. Emily stopped before she entered the class so she could get her breath again. Emily walked into class. She noticed she wasn't late. Thank Merlin Emily thought. She looked around the room. She spotted Sid. They met before in the forest so she decided to sit next to him. "Hey Siddy" Emily said a she sat down. "You gona freak me out today? Or have you decided to play nice" Emily said playfully. Emily got out her quill and wrote down her answer. She turned back to the others and listened to what they were saying.
Vero Watson - July 18, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
Vero quickly opened the door to CoMC, She prayed that she was not late, because another detention was not in he homework schedule that was for sure. Vero noticed that the students were still talking to each other, so that meant she was not late. Vero sighed in relief and found a set in the back of the class. AS she sat down she pulled her bag on the back of the chair and pulled out her book, quill and parchment and waited for class to start.
Valentina Greysoul - July 18, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
Valentina stared at the boy. She smirked and relaxed in a more natural position.
"hello." she said, obviously immitating his flirty way. She blinked, her long eyelashes brushing her skin, "I'm Valentina Pearl Greysoul, nice to meet you... Sid!" she concluded, and flashed him a smile that would send any boy crazy.
A shriek of a chair warned her that a new arrival had just been seated. She turned around to see who it was.
"Fawne!" she saiod happily, a wave of relief washing over her.
She smiled and watched as she started a conversation before begining a conversation herself.
"how's it going at the hospital lately,Fawne?" she asked, trully interested.
But before she could reply, she asked her something alse, more urgent for her.
"Fawne, what are you doing after this year? Where will you work, what will you do?"
Fawne Sugarmoon - July 18, 2008 10:38 PM (GMT)
Fawne smiled when Valentina greeted her warmly, her eyes reflected a similar happiness to Valentina. Despite house differences they were friends, and Fawne valued her friends dearly. She giggled at Sid when he suggested she would hate him just because of house; she truly found such prejudices pointless. She smiled politely at his question, her eyes no longer watching him but his doodles.
“6th Year, I rather think I’m one of the oldest for I am of Age” she suddenly giggled, which was totally out of concept for her reply. “I do believe your are the only person who has ever called me Darling, how odd.”
Her attention was soon drawn from Sid to Valentina however when she began shooting questions off about the hospital wing and work after school. It took a moment for Fawne to realise she must of though her a 7th year, Valentine must not of hear her reply to Sid. Her voice was friendly and soft when she spoke.
“My shifts have been most difficult but most delightful, I would like it if you are to visit, on well terms of course.” She paused in conversation, to show a switch of topics. “I have yet another year after this one, though I wish to be a healer, perhaps I will train at St. Mungos?”
Sid Carrick - July 21, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Sid smiled. He saw his friend Emi walk in and sit by him. "Hey Emily! Ill be nice today I pomise." he said smiling at her. His attention drew to Valentina, who was being overly flirtatious. "Its a pleasure V alentina." He said smiling. He listened to Fawne and laughed when she said he was the firstperson to call her darling. "Well I guess Im just a nice person." He said smiling. "So your part of the hospital wing here?" He said turning his attention towards her.
Fawne Sugarmoon - July 25, 2008 12:32 AM (GMT)
Her attention never left Sid since Valentina had yet to respond, she did wave slightly at Emily but her eyes were on the Slytherin boy most of the time; after all she did start a conversation with him. His replies made her wonder about his nature, he seemed slightly different with each of them yet still the same.
“Perhaps you are a nice person, though considering your house one does wonder” she laughed to show she was joking, her words playful rather than mean, her tone tinkling with mischief. Fawne, as unfortunate as it sometimes can be, did not have a single mean bone in her body. She was far too naive and trusting for her own good.
“Not quite part, I rather believe the term is volunteer; I help in anyway I can” Her voice returned to her soft tones as she spoke about her volunteering, the twinkling gone. Her last sentence implied she would help anyone if the cause was right and not just healing.
Emily Fall - July 25, 2008 04:29 AM (GMT)
Emily smiled. "Thats good to hear Sid" Emily said. Emily turned towards Fawne. "Hey Fawne" Emily said happily.
OOC: yay short
Solana Lilly - August 1, 2008 08:47 AM (GMT)
Solana walked into class, later than usual, but she didn't think she was actually late, students were talking with each other. She looked around and didn't spot anyone she knew, a problem due to her bad socialization skills. At home, at the mansion, she could socialize with th best of them, fake smiles and excellent manners had been part of her upbringing. Here, at school, she kept mostly to herself, talking to some people, but nothing that screamed: Friends!
She took a seat in the front and read the board for the assignment, write a small paragraph about Bowtruckles. Solana was nothing if not a good student and animal lover. She took out a piece of parchment and a new gold and pink quill and began to write.
Bowtruckles are little wooden men that live in trees, most likely trees used for wands. They feed on wood lice and fairy eggs. They seem harmless, but their sharp fingers could gouge out eyes. Tree cutters often get attacked, but an offering of woodlice normally keeps the Bowtruckle at bay long enough to get wand wood from the tree. Bowtruckles are usually about 8 inches tall and have long, spindly, wooden bodies.
When she was finished she set the parchment on the desk before her, next to her CoMC text book.
Brooklyn Rae - September 21, 2008 08:46 PM (GMT)
Brooklyn had rushed up from her meeting with Quinn and realized that she was almost 20 minutes late to the first CoMC class of the new semester. She rushed to the normal meeting place only to find that the class had been moved inside. She sprinted through the halls and finally found the classroom.
She burst through the door, heaving from running so fast. "Professor! I'm so sorry. I've been meeting with Quinn, Adams, about dragon stuff. Going tomorrow to Germany with him...to a reserve. So sorry." she caught her breath as she sat down next to Rebecca. "Hey, Rebecca." she said, taking out her notebook and starting her paragraph on Bowtruckles.
Bowtruckle: They are known as tree-guardian to most wizards and witches. They are very small, standing at a short and stalky 8 in. (at the tallest) and they look like sticks or bark from a tree. They eat mostly bugs and butterflies. They are generally nice creatures, but if they think you are trying to hurt them, they might try to kill you with their abnormally long fingers.
She felt terribly about being this late to class, so she felt the need to impress the teacher in some other form. She knew lots about many magical animals, so she wanted a chance to show off her knowledge. She waited for the Professor to start talking. I have to clear my off campus visit with her and Mrs. Beatty today; I have to go. she though to herself.
Eden Kaelyn - October 3, 2008 11:46 PM (GMT)
Eden entered the class; she didn't know if she was late and she didn't care much. Yes she was a Ravenclaw; but she didn't think she needed these classes, most of them didn't teac anything worth knowing.
Like today. She read the board. Write a small paragraph about Bowtruckles. She rolled her eyes. She walked to the back of the class where she took a seat and pulled a piece of parchment and a spiky black quill from her bag.
Bowtruckles are short, spindly tree guardians. They usually reside in wand trees and have thin bodies and pointy fingers which they use to gouge out human eyes. They feed on woodlice and faerie eggs. A handful of woodlice is usually a good distraction fow woodsmen when they need wood for a wand, but don't expect to get away without a few scratches.
She frowned at her paragraph and set it aside, waiting for the class to continue.
