April listened very carefully to the directions given, knowing this would be a difficult task. She looked around at the other participants, seeing troubled expressions on their faces as well. Glancing over to the Headmaster, she would see that he believed this to be a task worthy of their time, so she knew there must be an answer that was obvious in such a way that no one would realize it. Getting up, April crossed over to the table of items, touching each gently with her fingers, thinking hard. In the back of her mind, she believed this task to be more of a logical one than the last one, which had been mentally difficult.
April gave a good look to each item, crossed the room, and sat against the wall. Drawing out a piece of parchment, she dipped a quill in ink and scrawled the names of the items in clear ink, making sure each was correct as it was on the table. Then, she put her head in her hands, closed her eyes, and thought hard. She could see how some items were connected… lemon drops and pumpkin pasties were treats… the scarf and the socks could keep you warm in the winter… But none of the other items could fit those exact descriptions.
April looked up at the Headmaster, hoping to gain some insight. He seemed to be staring at all the contestant, smoking a cigar, and thinking deeply. Looking around the room, April saw portraits of Hogwarts, which hadn’t changed much, and some pictures of old Headmasters. Her eyes grazed over Coldstone’s picture, which hadn’t been taken down, and over to Dumbledore, the greatest headmaster that Hogwarts had ever seen. That’s when a light bulb went off in April’s head.
She got up quickly, striding over to the table with the objects. Some of the other competitors were looking at them too, confused expressions on their faces. But April was no longer confused. She touched each of the items, and then sat back down again, crossing off four of the items. She grabbed a clean sheet of parchment and wrote upon it the following words:
The three items relating to each other are the woolen socks, the raspberry jam, and the lemon drops. Each of these items were significant to the late ex-Headmaster Albus Dumbledore. For the woolen socks, Dumbledore considered them when thinking of what he would see looking into the Mirror or Erised. The raspberry jam is his favorite type of jam, which he told to Harry Potter so Harry could check to make sure he was really Dumbledore, and not an impersonator. In finality, the lemon drops were a Muggle sweet that Dumbledore was most fond of, even choosing them over wizard candies. As a closing, each of these three items were close to Dumbledore’s heart, which is why they are relatable, and in no other means other than stated.
April penned this on a peice of clean parchment and stood up. The other contestants were still talking amongst themselves and whispering for hints. April crossed the room and handed her paper in to the Headmaster, smiling brightly.
