Title: Arithmancy #3
Kirsten Forsyth - August 3, 2008 04:07 AM (GMT)
Professor Forsyth hated those boring lessons about numbers, and this Arithmancy class was going to be just it. But, the students need to learn about these numbers and there was no other way to do it. She sighed and flicked her wand at the board.

Write a sentence about what you have learnt in Arithmancy so far, just one sentence about the whole thing and hand it in.
Once again, enjoy arithmancy!
|
She sighed and sat down. She wasn't in a very tolerable mood today and just hoped that everyone will come early and that not one will come late. Especially Mona.
Valentina Greysoul - August 3, 2008 09:49 AM (GMT)
Valentina hopped to class, feeling so happy it was impossible not to get infected with such brightness.
And, to make things better, Arythmacy was now one of her favourite subjects.
She opened the classroom's door carefully, stopping her hopping, and welcomed her professor with the most contagious of smiles.
"Goodmorning, miss Forsyth! How are you, today?"
She sat down on an empty desk, took her things out and immediately began doing her task.
Arithmacy is one of the most ancient fortune telling ways that have ever excisted. It consists in trasforming your name in numbers, summing them up until there is only one letter number left. Then, you are able to identify your charecter correctly and also other peoples future.
Saphira Adair - August 4, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
Saphira ran to the Arithmancy classroom. As she walked to her desk Saphira said “Good morning Professor.” Then she sat down and began to write down the instructions on the blackboard.
Arithmacy is the study of divination through numbers and letters. Sometimes you can figure out a person’s personality by their name and you can also predict someone’s future. There cannot be two numbers at the end of your calculations exempt from this rule are the numbers 11 and 22. Also you can tell what a person’s strengths and weaknesses are by studying their name. Adding up the numbers in your name can tell people your strengths and weaknesses also.
Valentina Greysoul - August 4, 2008 12:48 PM (GMT)
Valentina watched as Saphira ran into the classroom, and waved at her.
"Hi, Saph!" she said quietly, "What score did you get for Arithmacy?" she asked, curious.
Katarzyna Warswik - August 4, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
Arithmancy. Katarzyna's most hated class. She'd choose double Herbology with Hufflepuff over Arithmancy anyday. It bored her, and she couldn't help but take her time getting to class. She walked in, dragging her feet ever so slightly which just resukted in her heels clacking on the hard wood floor.
Kat sat down in a desk next to a girl she only knew by reputation and first name. Saphira or something like that. The Slytherin girl flashed the profesor a quick smile and added:
"Morning, Professor Forsyth."
Kat glanced at the assignment before she took out a quill, ink, and some parchment.
Arithmancy is a branch of magic that is concerned with the magical properties of numbers. Someone who practices Arithmancy is called an Arithmancer. Arithmancy is a method of divination by numbers first used by the ancient Greek wizards The most basic form of arithmancy is used with the names of people you want more information about. First, you must convert the name into a number.
"Gotowy," kat muttered to herself in Polish, the word for done, and looked around at the other students in the room. She saw Valentina and nodded, with a friendly face, towards her fellow Slytherin.

Valentina watched as Saphira ran into the classroom, and waved at her. "Hi, Saph!" she said quietly, "What score did you get for Arithmacy?" she asked, curious. |
Saphira saw Valentina and waved to her. "Hi Valentina I got an EE grade in Arithmancy" said Saphira. She asked Valentina quietly " What grade did you get?"
Calum Ferguson - August 6, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
Calum walked into class lazily, he wasn't in the mood for chatting and just wanted to doze off in class. He knew it wouldn't be possible, though. With Professor Forsyth watching like a hawk. He sat down next to Valentina, muttered a 'hello' and scribbled on his parchment:
Arithmancy tells us the personality of someone and each number represents something. That makes us identify the character of the person and/or future.
He got up, handed it in and got back to his seat. His eyes stared at the board warily for a while. He had slept at five this morning and had woken up at seven to get ready for the new school day. Maybe he shouldnt''ve come to Arithmancy and just spend his whole day sleeping off his wary eyes.
He then turned to Saphira and Valentina.
"Hi." he said, flashing a short smile.
And turned to the stranger on Saphira's side.
"May I ask who you are?" he asked.
Valentina Greysoul - August 6, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
She smiled at Saphira, with a friendly and relaxed expression.
"I got an 'O'!" she said happily and excitedly. "You did great, too!"
Valentina stared at Calum as he enetered, a soft blush flooding her cheeks.
"Hi, Calum!" she said happily. He didn't look like he was in a great state, so she waited for him to come back from the teachers desk before saying anything. He finally came and sat back down.
She patted his head gently, strocking his silky blonde hair.
"You look awful, today, Calum. In a good way, of course!" she said gently. "Didn't get much sleep, am I right?" she guessed wildly.
Vero Watson - August 6, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
Vero walked into class extremely late, she rushed thought the door out of breath and apologizing at the same time. Vero spotted Calum and Valentina and walked towards them.
"Hey, you guys. You mind if i sit beside you?" Vero asked as she put her backpack on the floor and pulled out her quill and paper. 'What i have learned so far in arithmancy?' Vero tapped her quill against her chin for a few minutes to think. Vero put her quill to paper and began to write.
What i have learned in arithmancy so far is that every number had a meaning and sometimes several meaning."
Calum Ferguson - August 7, 2008 12:00 PM (GMT)
"You guessed it. It was only five did I manage to get some proper sleep.." he said and saw Vero come. "Of course not, and hello, as well."
He stared blankly at the board, thinking of nothing more to say.
Katarzyna Warswik - August 7, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
Katarzyna listened in to the conversation with Valentina and a tired looking boy. She didn't know who the boy was, but Valentina was her friend...
And Kat, of all people was not about to just sit there like a loser.
"Hey, Vally," she said, yawning slightly. She'd been up terribly late last night cramming for a potions exam.
Kat looked at the blond boy, and he asked her who she was. "Katarzyna Warswik," she said, smiling slyly. She fngered her cloack, showing him she was a Slytherin. "And you?"
Valentina Greysoul - August 7, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
Valentina continued patting Calum's shoulder, feeling nervous.
It was Calum, after all, she reasoned, not any other random boy!
"You should ask to leave, if you don't feel too well!" she insisted, clearly worried about him.
She waved at Vero as she came to sit by them.
She turned her head to see Katarzyna, her Slytherin friend.
"Hey, Kat!" she said, relaxing a bit, "haven't seen you for a while now... where were you?" she asked, a smile on her lips.
Calum Ferguson - August 8, 2008 11:13 AM (GMT)
"Calum Ferguson." he said, guessing she was a Slytherin.
He looked at Valentina as she gave the most wonderful suggestion he'd heard since he woke up. The others were just hurrying him to get to class and to wake up. All he's been hearing all morning was. 'Wake up, mate, you're going to be late!' or 'Hurry up, Calum!'
"That's the most wonderful suggestion I heard all morning." he said, gladly getting up. He approached Professor Forsyth. "Um, Professor, I don't think I feel so well. Can I go?" he said, in a slightly innocently suspicious voice. Although, he didn't mean it to sound baby-ish, it probably sounded like that too.
Valentina Greysoul - August 8, 2008 11:56 AM (GMT)
Valentina smiled, proud of herself and her suggestions.
"Okay then!" she assured him, "have a nice nap!" she smiled at that.
Kirsten Forsyth - August 8, 2008 11:59 PM (GMT)
Mona skidded into the classroom, glad she wasn't late. She would be just about reached Professor Forsyth's worst nerves.
She sat down next to Vero, Saphira and Valentina and smiled at them.
"Hiya." she said, getting out her quill.
Mona scribbled:
Mona Woods
Second year Ravenclaw
Arithmancy is a way of knowing people's personality through numbers. Each number has a different meaning.
She sighed and handed it in, returning straight to her seat afterwards.
"How are you today and where's Calum going?" she asked.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Not well, Mr Ferguson?" she asked. She examined him. He did look a bit tired and wary.
She sighed.
"Well, you do look a bit tired." she said. "Your homework is to write up about the numbers 5 to 9. Just to tell you, feeling tired or not knowing the answers will not be an excuse for homework. I expect this in by a fortnight. You may go."
She smiled at him, then at the class. Everyone had come earl;y as expected.
"Good Morning class. Today we will learn more about the numbers." she said. "Yes, I know, it's boring. Now, who can tell me the about the number 5?"
Calum Ferguson - August 9, 2008 12:01 AM (GMT)
He sighed. More homework. But, nodded, nevertheless.
"Yes, miss." he said.
He smiled at Mona who had just came skidding in, waved to Valentina as he disappeared through the door.
Finally, he was going to get some time to sleep..
Brendon Ferguson - August 9, 2008 07:04 AM (GMT)
He walked casually into class, but ran when he relised that he was late, his bag swinging wildly around.
Calum walked past him as he headed towards the door, and wondered what was wrong with him. He didn't stop, however, and kept on going.
He finally arrived at the door, puffed.
"Morning, Professor." he said and took a seat next to Valentina, his brother's girlfriend, getting out his quill and writing down:
I have learnt that Arithmancy tells the future and that each number represents something.
He handed it to the Professor and sat back.
Kirsten Forsyth - August 9, 2008 08:51 AM (GMT)
Professor Forsyth sighed as a student came in late.
"Mr. Ferguson." she said. "You're lucky you're the first that is late today."
She half-smiled at him, telling him that he was free of detention and turned to the papers on her desk.
"Hm, these are very good." she said. "So, about number five, then, shall we?"
She placed the papers back down and faced the class again.
Brendon Ferguson - August 9, 2008 03:47 PM (GMT)
He sighed in pure relief as Professor Forsyth let him out of a detention. He feels sorry for those who comes late after him, who knows what's going to happen?
He searched his head. The number five..
Oh, stupid brain, why won't you tell me the answer to this one?
He sighed.
Valentina Greysoul - August 9, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
Valentina smiled as Brendon sat next to her.
"Calum's not feeling well!" she explained, reading his perplexed expression. "Oh, and I'm glad you came!" she smiled in a friendly way.
"Five is the number that describes adventurous, mercurial, and sensual soul!" she replied, not wanting to go too much in detail.
OOC: I can't find any arythmacy websites... can you suggest me one?
Vero Watson - August 9, 2008 06:27 PM (GMT)
occ:http://www.sorcererscompanion.net/arithmancy.html
Vero listened to Valentina give her answer about number 5 and was upset that she did not get to it fast enough. Vero would just have to be on her toes for the next question. Vero wrote down on her parchment what Valentina said and also her answer along with it.
Valentina Greysoul - August 9, 2008 08:48 PM (GMT)
Saphira Adair - August 10, 2008 12:31 AM (GMT)
OOC:
http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=112732Saphira copied down what Valentina had said and also hoped that she could get the next number. She looked through her textbook to find the next number. Then she waited for the next number to be called.
Kirsten Forsyth - August 10, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Professor Forsyth nodded, not inclined to praise any answers today. She was not in a foul mood, rather in a content mood.
She flicked her wand, and Valentina's words appeared on the board.

Five is the number that describes adventurous, mercurial, and sensual soul!
|
"Good explanation." she said. "Anyone want to add to that? Then we'll move on to number 6."
Vero Watson - August 10, 2008 03:32 PM (GMT)
Vero's mouth shoot open and she recited.
"Six represents harmony, friendship, and family life. Sixes are loyal, reliable, and loving. They adapt easily. They do well in teaching and the arts, but are often unsuccessful in business. They are sometimes prone to gossip and complacency."
Vero congratulated herself on answering the question before Valentina, but was glad for a little competition.
Valentina Greysoul - August 10, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Valentina bit her fie lips as Vero answered. She wasn't in a competitive mood today, but that didn't mean she could test the waters.
She scribbled down the answerer and her hand shot up before Miss Forsyth could even ask.
"Seven is Perceptive, understanding, and bright, sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are often serious, scholarly, and interested in all things mysterious. Originality and imagination are more important than money and material possessions. Sevens can also be pessimistic, sarcastic, and insecure!" she said proudly.
It might have looked funny for a student to be so eager, but there she was, her hand srill flashing up, and a now merry smile printed on her lips.
Kirsten Forsyth - August 13, 2008 02:28 AM (GMT)
"Correct, Miss Watson." she said. "And, Miss Greysoul, although, I would much prefer you to have more patience."
She smiled at the class and flicked the board.

"Please write all of this down." she said. "The number eight and nine? Then we'll finish off for the day."
Valentina Greysoul - August 13, 2008 10:47 AM (GMT)
Valentina blushed, but was still proud of herself.
She turned and smiled at Mona (OOC: just noticed the previous post now, sorry!), while writing the two answers down.
OOC: Vero or Saphira can post the 8 and 9, if they want! ^_^
Vero Watson - August 13, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Vero jumped a the chance to answer the last two numbers...
"Eight indicates the possibility of great success in business, finance, and politics. Eights are practical, ambitious, committed, and hard working. They can also be jealous, greedy, domineering, and power-hungry. Eight is said to be the most unpredictable of numbers and can indicate the pinnacle of success or the depths of failure; the potential to go either way is present from the beginning." Vero said number eight with a smile and waited for someone else to get a chance at answering the question..
Kirsten Forsyth - August 15, 2008 01:42 PM (GMT)
"Correct." she said. "And the number nine will be the last. Anyone?"
She covered her mouth to yawn.
This was boring and she wants to get this over with.
"And, please write down what Vero had just said." she added.
Valentina Greysoul - August 15, 2008 01:55 PM (GMT)
Valentina copied everything down in her neat handwriting, before pulling her hand up.
She made sure the professor saw her before answering.
"9 Represents completion and achievement to the fullest degree (as it is the complete number, three, expressed three times). Nines dedicate themselves to service, often as teachers, scientists, and humanitarians. Strongly determined, they work tirelessly and are an inspiration to others. However, they can also be arrogant and conceited when things don't go their way!" She smiled as she said this.
Kirsten Forsyth - August 16, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
"Ah! Finally, the end of the day!" she said. "We teachers love making you suffer under homework overload, but we like to relax as well." she said, jokingly. "I was joking."
"Okay, your homework will be to explain the numbers we dissucsssed today." she said. "Class dissmissed."
